    Interesting/helpful internet tricks

Post by Hart on Thu Aug 15, 2013 5:17 am

    Sooooo.....

I've recently found a few little tricks to make my web surfing a bit easier, and I thought it would be cool to have a topic where we can share such things and pick up new ones from other member here.

To get the ball rolling, I provide you with this: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/downthemall/

This add-on to Fire Fox allows you to download every pic/link on a webpage, with a nice easy interface to do so.

    Instuctions:

-Go to the link above and download and install your new add on.
-Go to the page with the pics/links you want to download, for this example I'm going to try page 1 of the Dark Souls 'Funny Junk' thread.
-Press CTRL+A to select everything on the page.
-Right click on an image, any image (or other filetype, whatever filetype you want to download) and select 'DownThemAll selection'.
-You'll see a list of all the links on the page, select which ones you want to download by checking the box on the left. All links of the same type you right-clicked to get here will automatically be selected.
At the bottom of this window you'll see two little boxes; one is where your new files will be saved and one is a common name (eg. DkS_funny_P1) for said files.
    -Hit 'Start' and hey presto.

    Spoiler:

So yeah, if you guys stumble across any little things like this that save time and effort on the net, please share them with me.

Hold control and press F.  Then, type in any word or phrase on the page you want to find.

This also works in a majority of office suite programs (word, excel, etc).  It's one of the fastest time savers when searching for something specifically, and yet so few people seem to know it.

For example, type in "what a happy family" and you'll get zoomed straight to SadPanda's signature on pressing enter.  Type in a username instead and you can quickly move between all of their posts.

It's far, far from hacking and it should be extremely common knowledge, but from what I've seen, it isn't.

Hold down alt and ctrl and press the down arrow. It speeds up your internet.

lol noted Reim, I was using the term jokingly though, as in '1337 h4x0r Anonymoose' rather than actual hacks.

Also @ Capa, that old gem doesn't work on most computers these days does it?

Lol yeah everything listed here so far is all above board Soris. Just looking for things to make using your computer easier, not anything actually malicious.

    contributing...not anything mind bending though:
If you close a tab accidentily, press CTRL+SHIFT+T to instantly revive it

EDIT: Removed the hacks thing from thread title since it's irrelevant to the topic

Here is the page for a browser addon that lets you save and download Youtube videos pretty easily. Not as useful if you have unlimited internet traffic on your ISP contract but great if you have a cap on it and want to watch a video multiple times.

Nice, I've been looking for something like this for a while now. Just used it on a couple videos to test it out and its great.

A video 2:53 long used 12.8MB to download, if anyone needs a frame of reference.
This is great for me since I do all my internetting on a POS mobile-tethering connection.

To download any file from any web page with Firefox, right somewhere in the page and select View Page Info, click the "media" tab on top of the window.
You have a nice list of every image and object in said page, even those background images
