Well with the announcement of PS4, also came the announcement of Sucker Punch's latest game- InFAMOUS: Second Son. Now this game will take place seven years after the episodes of Cole Macgrath and the world has clearly changed. Anyone who shows any signs of being a "bio-terrorist" is immediately handed over to the Department of Unified Protection (DUP)- a government agency to ensure that there will never be a repeat of the cataclysmic events of Empire City and New Marais. Now enter our new character.
The new character is name Delsin Rowe, a 24 year old who is absolutely convinced he's destined for greater things; though so far those greater things have eluded him. He grew up outside of Seattle, where his great, as well as accidental, calling comes crashing into his life. After rescuing occupants from a fiery bus crash, he discovers that he suddenly has the abilities to direct, manipulate, and transform into....... Smoke.
So now Delsin, a man who has never looked to fondly on the authority, finds himself caught in the DUP dragnet- and decides he is not going quietly.
Along the way, Delsin is going to ask questions that are not just relevant to the world of Second Son, but to the world we all live in today. A world where we are often instructed to surrender our freedoms to help improve our security. Ben Franklin once wrote "Those who would give up essential liberty to purchase a little temporary safety deserve neither liberty or safety." Is he right?
- Spoiler:
- So one of the little details left out of the info that we know so far is that, which ending from InFAMOUS 2 is canon? The Good Ending or the Evil Ending? Now you can perhaps argue for either side but in the end one does have a fatal flaw that throws itself out of the way of being the canon. That ending, is the Evil Ending. Despite perhaps seeming at first as the more logical ending the biggest problem with this ending is-THE PLAGUE. The Plague was something that was caused in InFAMOUS after Cole activated the Ray Sphere. It quickly spread through out the country and even perhaps the entire world. Usually at first the victims wouldn't know but then they would get sick and eventually die. Now there were only two cures to The Plague- The RFI or The Beast. The RFI cures The Plague but kills Conduits while The Beast cures only Conduits of The Plague and activates their powers. So if we try and say that the Evil Ending of InFAMOUS 2 is canon for Second Son, we have a problem. The Plague killed the victims it infected in weeks. Since this game takes place seven years after InFAMOUS 2 then it would be impossible for normal people to even exist still since more then likely they would of been all dead and only Conduits would remain. Meaning the Good Ending has to be the canon, and I'll explain why.
In the Good Ending, Cole uses the RFI which ultimately cures millions of people without the Conduit gene but kills thousands with the gene supposedly. Now we honestly don't follow know if it killed all Conduits in the world. Perhaps the device had a specific range of effect. We know it did kill Conduits all around the world but did it kill all of them? Which takes me into my second theory that ties into it. A friend on another site came up with this. What if the Conduit gene can be either a dominant gene or a recessive gene? Then perhaps if that is the case all those people who have the dominant Conduit gene were targetted by the RFI so only they died but the people with the Recessive Conduit gene were not targetted by the RFI so they were uneffected and lived. To me that would really fit well into the storyarc of the InFAMOUS universe. Though we won't know until Sucker Punch actually tells us but to me this theory is the best and only way that InFAMOUS: Second Son could exist. Feel free to speculate as well.
ALSO here's hoping that Zeke makes a cameo appearance if the InFAMOUS 2 Good Ending is the canon of the story. After all he would more then likely be fighting for rights for Conduits or "bio-terrorists" as the DUP calls them. Meaning that Zeke could be a target of the DUP. Plus with his knowledge of Conduits, he would be a reliable source for Delsin.
