Men Eater ng+ in Pure Black World Tendency

Post by Micha369 on Mon Aug 12, 2013 5:50 am

    Hello folks,

I wanted to play Demon's Souls with a relative low strength build.

My goal was sl 15 in ng and sl 25 in ng+.
ng was challenging at a few places but mostly no big deal. But then I started ng+. And here I tried to keep my sl 15 char at this level. But it was so difficult and so frustrating at some locations!

managable at sl 15 in solo fight was
    1-2 Tower Knight
world 2 (except FL - here I needed a blue phantom)

then I tried 1-3 and this was where it got hard. I managed my way to the Penetrator but Penetrator was by no means possible for me. Biorr died as well. I summoned a blue phantom friend and we often died. My world tendency got darker and darker of course. And the Penetrator got stronger as well. At the end I had to go to sl 25 and I had to allow my friend to use his soul arrow magic. Up to this point offensive magics were forbiden in my fights. So finally we killed him.

Now we fougth our way through world 3. It was easy now since this world still was white. My Dragon Claymore+5 was very good! But when it came to the Men Eater our (my friends as a blue and mine) limit was reached. We died, I died, the world got darker and Men Eater became stronger - the same game as with the Penetrator. We took a 3rd man with us and still died.
I increased my sl to 45 and took my newly required Northern Regalia. This is very good a weapon at pure black CT. My friend used his magic (his toon is not a pure mage) and I my NR but we always died. We died always at an early point of the fight!  At some point my friend quit and I tried on my own. My first solo was not too bad since I got ME down by 70%! I was really proud of this. I think the Friends Ring is very good in this fight. I was lucky because the 2nd ME was at the other side of the bridge for the whole time. I think he simply didn't see me. But at the end, after some recharging thing the remaining ME killed me!
I tried a few more times, but wasn't lucky again. ME is so strong! Mostly I already die in the time when only the first ME is on the bridge.

Do you have tips on how to do this fight (I'm melee)?
Please don't say: "level up to sl 125!" This is what I don't want. sl 45 is already much to high for my initially plans.

    I desperately need some hints!

    Thanks for your help.

What I have noticed also is that I almost never see blue signs at sl 45 in this 3-2 area!
In fact I almost never see blue signs. Nobody feels like helping other guys.

    EDIT:
I will manage this little fellow soon. I'm only a few trials short of it, I'm sure.
I already almost had him down.

It is a question of luck for sure! Unfortunately one doesn't have full control over some unlucky constellations or circumstances!
If they come both together near to you one truly would need a good amount of luck to  manage to run through them to the other fog gate.
My potential to block is limited to only one hit (physical or magical). I need some time to bring back the stamina. If they hit both I'm dead. I pretty good can handle one at a time.

The thief ring helps a lot even in boss fights, like from preventing the 2nd maneater from seeing you.  When they fly around they also sometimes lose track of you completely, which can help you heal and reset.   You can also try pushlocking if you get in trouble.  A surprising number of the bosses can be staggered out of various attacks if you just give them a quick shove.  I found this very helpful against the Maneaters, Penetrator, and even Alant on my NG+ sl45.   But I wasn't facing them in pure black world tendency so I could afford to take a hit if I timed it wrong.

I do have a 45 and a 30 character if you still need coop help, although I am on the NA version.  I think it's harder to get summons in world 3 because you end up doing the Old Monk fight a lot rather than actually helping people.  I see a fair number of signs at sl30-50 in other worlds.

    Hello befowler,

    Thank you for your help!

What does pushlocking mean? I cannot find this word in my dictionary (My English is too bad, sorry).

"to stagger him out" seems to be the same as to bring him out of balance, right? But Meneater should have much more poise then I have.
I do often use the shove and hit tactic at smaller enemies but I've never dared to try this out at bosses!

    To your offer to help:
Yes I could need help, indeed. I've been working on that ME the whole Sunday and on the following evenings at least three hours a day! Now I'm really fed up with ME.
In the chat rooms there are nice guys. They all know and are able to beat ME. But when they really came into my world all of them died.
Lot of thanks for their trial anyway!!

But just yesterday I met two guys who both seem to have the capability to even solo my Meneater! We tried it tree or four times but haven't managed it until the end. But they are very good at Meneater fight so I'm optimistic for today evening.

However, I really do would like to see others fight against ME as well. Other people have other tactics.
But I please all my blue phantoms to only melee my Bosses. No offensive magical or faith spells please! Protective spells (like warding) are allowed though.

But how can you help me? I have the European version!

    best wishes

There's no poise in demons, a gentle breeze would cancel an attack in demons.

I always would go for the middle and try and keep the fire between them and me, hitting them every now and then.

You can also cheese the 1st ME, you can shoot arrows through the boss fog to take him out.

really have to try this! Shoving the boss. Only for the knowledge. I can handle one ME very good by dodging and blocking with DSS, problem is when they both come too close to me.

No, this is no option for me. Don't get any satisfaction by doing this.

I squeaked out a win in the first run through of this. In NG+ I can't recall if I did melee or not on these guys. I can say for certain that any playthrough after NG+ was the "incinerate them with magic" tactic.

One thing that worked a little bit for me was an old trick used by various martial arts practitioners:

Run. Not too far. But just enough to cause a little separation between your foes. It sounds like you're doing ok 1 on 1 so it's the 2 on 1 that you need to best. If you find yourself with both of them nearby you can run to the other end of the bridge. The idea is that one will find you before the other does meaning you will get brief 1 on 1 settings. I won't lie and say this tactic is easy. The narrow walk means you're probably learning to run at angles and using the centerpiece as a barrier.

Yes, this time, I'll try to stay more in the center platform to have the opportunity to run to one of the two fogs.

In my other trials after the 2nd ME appeared I mostly run to the second fog in the hope that with the thiefs ring equipped one doesn't see me. A few times it worked and one ME really didn't see me and i could work on the other one. Unfortunatly I failed too in this rare, good constellations.

    Hello folks,

I can proudly announce that I finally have finished this Meneater in solo by only using my NR and DSS. I tried it approx. 70 times since Sunday. I really was fed up with this!
I used the Thiefs ring. This resulted in a problem just the fight before my victory fight. One of the two ME flew away and didn't feel like coming back to me. Maybe he wasn't hungry. I unequipped my ring, used Soul Remains and tried to shoot at him. But he has extremly far away. Even though this was also an almost successful fight I had to reload!
To the shove and hit tactic: I tried a few times but this alway resulted in a new match! So it didn't work for me! I never could make ME to stagger or tumble or break his attack. If ME was raising his body and his arms above his head, the blow went down with brutal force! No interrupt possible.

my stats are: (temple knight, sl45)
    21/ 8/ 22/ 20/ 14/ 12/ 13/ 7

    @Walter:
Walter, where have you been? I was looking for you the whole evening! Haven't seen you being online, though.

Looking forward to encountering Meneater in ng++!

    Best wishes
