    Amon Amarth Empty Amon Amarth

Post by IHateTheFourKings Sun Aug 11, 2013 1:28 pm

I'm just curious if there are any other fans Amon Amarth on this forum. I can say for sure now that they're my favorite band.

While their music isn't particularly impressive from a technical standpoint (not everything has to be Opeth or Meshuggah, though I also love those bands), but their songs are just consistently great throughout their now nine albums.

So does anyone else like them? If so, what songs are your favorite?

That's both a great song and album. "Tattered Banners and Bloody Flags" is probably my favorite track on said album.

    Cry of the Black Birds.

Although I haven't listened to them in a while, I still haven't listened to Deceiver of the Gods.

It's pretty good. It actually didn't do a whole lot for me at first, but it grew on me. The new production is a little cleaner than I like, but hey, it's still Amon Amarth. The song, "Under Siege" is probably my favorite on the album, and possibly now one of my favorites of theirs overall.

They show up from time to time in Belgium. Sadly I missed every opportunity because of school or sickness. I like a lot of their songs silly

I had the chance to see them on my birthday, but forgot about the concert at the last moment. I was kicking myself for days.

Aw, that sucks. I have a friend informing me about metal bands who give concerts. Problem is I forget to check myself, and my friend always asks me last minute. I missed out so much concerts, I haven't touched my metal-shirts in months. straight face

I like what I've heard from them, which unfortunately isn't that much. I have a big list of bands I've heard on Pandora that I want to check out more thoroughly and they're on there. Every time Pandora has played them for me I've liked what I've heard.

They're definitely very much worth getting into.

Another one of my favorite bands is Kalmah, and I recommend them as well. People have compared them to Children of Bodom (another band I like), though I honestly find them more similar to Amon Amarth in some ways.

EDIT: Oh, and good choices, Conrack. Fate of Norns is such a great song, and emotional too. I'm not ashamed to admit that it's nearly moved me to tears on more than one occasion.

Oh, my god, CoB. The feels. I almost forgot about them.
Triple Corpse Hammerblow could've been the song I've listened to the most in my life.

I have trouble taking metal bands with keyboardists seriously. I listen to a few of them anyway, but bands like Bodom that have keyboard solos I just can't do.

I've listened to a lot of Kalmah in the past. I'd say my favorite song by them would be "Evil in You".

Sad to say I've never listened to CoB, I've never found the time to look at any of their works.

I like bands that use keys well, but I will concede that Bodom is pretty guilty of overusing them, as they sometimes overshadow the guitars in the mix. I'm a fan of the "dueling" guitar and keyboard solos, though I can understand not liking them.

If you haven't heard Kalmah before, they use keyboards but in a more subtle, atmospheric way. I prefer them to Bodom, and that's one of the reasons.

I definitely do listen to a few black metal bands that make use of them, but like you said, Bodom is huge on their keyboard antics. I listen to a lot of Sworn, and they definitely have keyboards in there. Worth checking out also if you're into black metal at all. I'll check out Kalmah next time I've got a minute. Adding them to the list.

I've been meaning to add more black metal to my library, so I'll have to check them out. The only black metal bands I really listen to a whole lot are Dissection and Dimmu Borgir, with some Gorgoroth, Dark Funeral, Satyricon, and Dark Fortress here and there.

I occasionally listen to Dimmu Borgir. I honestly don't listen to a lot of black metal either, I just stumbled onto Sworn and really liked them. Their first album, the Alleviation, is really good. I'm not too huge a fan of their second one though. Listen to the songs the Alleviation, and Beauty of my Funeral. The latter is like a power ballad. Really good stuff. The guitar solos in it are incredible.

Most of the metal I like is death metal. I listen to Darkest Hour and In Flames probably more than anything else.
