Poise against swords, daggers, katanas, and other small weapons? Yes.

Poise against giant swords, axes, and the like? Hell no.

Poise doesn't really have a diminishing return, and should. With MAX poise you should be able to barely resist a claymore hit, anything more is ridiculous. Only HEAVY armor should have poise. Anything over 10 units should have poise, or parts of a heavy set. No wolf ring or min/max poise pieces and I'm all for poise. It just makes midroll more viable.

I've learned not to get involved in poise theory-crafting.  It's a complicated issue that isn't getting solved on any forum.  That said one of the better ideas I think I've heard over the last two years or so is to have strength requirements on medium/heavy armor, similar to large/great-shields.  This is by no means a quick fix imo, but it might be a good foundation for further tweaks that would result in a balanced system.

Poise should either come from total weight when determined if you get knocked down or back, while interrupting actions should come from (insert idea here)

Well considering my posts are usually friendly and this is one of the rare occasions I make a post that is close to being a smart ***. It is obviously uncharacteristic of myself but I know you're a fan of posts that are very matter of fact, so I guess I understand why you'd like it.

Also I will say that I strongly recommend you turn down your abrasive tone, condescending attitude and stop insulting people in your posts. This is not your first instance of doing this and is against the rules of the forum to make such remarks that can be offensive and incendiary. You are knowledgable about pvp, but quite frankly that does not give you a license to act the way you do towards others. If you fail to correct your behaviour sufficiently then further action will have to be taken.

It's a new line I'm drawing, because this whole sarcastic reputation he seems to hold has a ridiculous amount of wriggle room for abuse. I'm breaking down his impenetrable 'sarcasm defence' wall.

It's like this- If the post does not explicitly show that it is sarcasm (since otherwise he could say anything he pleases then just say 'It was sarcasm' as a get out of jail free card), then I'm gonna take the comment seriously. Examples include use of appropriate emotes, following on with another sentence/paragraph using phrases such as "seriously though" or "Joking aside" etc or saying bluntly he is being sarcastic.

The fact someone also downrepped him for the comment shows perfectly the divide his ambiguous statements cause as all we see is black and white- no context whatsoever that is just infinitely open to interpretation.

Lack of clarity causes misunderstanding. Misunderstanding causes conflict. This way, he can either explicitly show he's being sarcastic to avoid offending, or he can just not say stuff like that. Either way, he's gotta throw ambiguity to the wind, though I'd rather he take the latter option.

This was gonna be the reply if he tried to justify it as sarcasm, but I guess it's appropriate as a response to your comment on the matter

Haven't read through all the posts here, so apologies if this has been proposed already.

I wish for certain weapons in certain classes to have varying poise numbers. I find it ridiculous that a large club has the same poise break as Smoughs Hammer. It just makes the hammer absolutely useless for serious PvP. Now, I saw someone proposing before that weight should correlate to the poisebreak of the weapon. Think that could make things a lot more complicated if everything had its own special poisebreak, but I do believe that ridiculously heavy things should have ridiculously high poise-breaks.

On a similar note, I would want R2's to do more poisebreak then normal attacks. It would make them, well, viable besides from the scarce few weapons(special weapons not included) that has R2s that are actually possible to use seriously. Like the Greatlord Greatsword. That isn't just a simple swing, I am putting my entire body and prepping myself up quite a bit to smash my sword on your head. That should pack more poise break then it does, so that people can actually use it. As it is, if someone uses an R2 that isn't something like the Large Club 1-handed or Shotel, then they could get themselves easily punished for an attack that isn't strong enough to be worth the risk.

I should note that I love playing tanky and am greatly enjoying the thought that tanks can be a very viable option in Dark Souls 2(especially three weapons slots.........Pike, Zweihander, and Mace combo would be glorious).

Side note: No poise at all? Nope. Thousands upon thousands of nope. Never. I like my poise.

Off Topic Hey Serious, when you think about it, Hollowing is more closely related to an 'Aging' process than necrosis. The way people wither, become sluggish, and lose their minds. (Dementia/Alzheimer/Schizo) So you're kind of more like a granny in hollow form than a zombie, right? Just thinking out loud.

I think we're going a little bit off topic here... If you want to continue that conversation have one in the archives. It's an interesting idea no doubt.

But this thread is about poise, so that conversation should go else where happy
