Dragon's Dogma: Dark Arisen is the re-release of the original DD, so yes, it is the full game.

I made the same post...Just with more text and gibberish.
I bought it, same game + the DLCs. It's like Dark Souls all over again.

Dark Arisen contains the Dark Arisen DLC, but it also contains the full version of the original Dragon's Dogma and all DLCs released before Dark Arisen.
It also has all of the great Dark Arisen patches, that nerf the OP, buff the wek and also enable fast travel.

I recommend starting the game on Hard Mode. At first, everything will one shot you, but on level 20, you'll be capable of clearing the whole game, except for DA content. Yes, the game is that easy, even on Hard Mode.

I've been working on my first playthrough of the vanilla game, which I bought way back when I was still DkSing every day and it sat on my shelf all that time until now. I'm having a lot of fun with it. I was actually wondering if you guys might help out with a couple things I've been confused about? A good portion of the NPC's in my game, at least a good portion of the ones that I talk to regularly like the merchants and innkeepers, seem like they're universally getting sad. For most of my game so far they've all said pretty normal merchant things when I've talked to them, like telling me their wares are good or what have you. I've been noticing lately though that a lot of them have been saying things like "I have nothing to live for" or things of that nature when I talk to them. I thought originally that it must be my fault, like maybe I was pulling my weapon out in front of them or something and lowering their affinity with me without realizing it, but merchants I'm meeting for the first time, like the guy out at the Greatwall Encampment, are doing it too. Is that part of the normal progression of the game or is there something I need to be doing about it? I tried gifting a couple of them but it didn't really help and I'm not just going to stand there and give him all my stuff without knowing whether or not I'm going to be making a difference, or if their state of mind even makes a difference at all.

I was also wondering if it's worth killing the drake over and over again to try to get dragon forged equipment. I've only killed it once at this point but I was thinking about trying again for that reason yesterday. I've been using the same equipment for quite awhile now. Managed to score a few things as loot that have been better than anything else I've found or could buy for the last maybe 20 hours, so I'm figuring dragon forging it couldn't hurt. Although it is equipment for classes I won't be staying with. I'm still just using the advanced vocations building my stats for the hybrid vocation I plan on sticking with. So it's warrior stuff and sorcerer stuff that I've got, and I don't plan on being either of those for too much longer. Though I guess my pawn will be. Is there enough of a chance to get dragon forged stuff when you fight it that it'd be worth it? Or should I just not bother?

That's where Bitterblack Isle comes in. Even with level 150-ish, I got roflstomped by most enemies there and once you manage to clear the place, it enters a sort of NG+ mode, which makes the enemis much more difficult and changes their placement.

It's been very challenging and fun the first few runs, but as soon as you get the best BBI gear, even BBI itself becomes super easy.

Well, unles you're a pure melee and manage to run into two Dire Drakes, accompanied by Curse Dragon, or three Living Armors. Then you're screwed.

I wouldn't farm the Drake over and over in the hopes of DFing my equipment. The chances just aren't good enough. In the post-game, your dragonkin encounters sky-rocket so your chances will be far better, not to mention that the red dragon 100% DFs your stuff.

To get through the pre-Everfall game 3-star equipment is more than enough.

Is there much of a reason to keep playing post-game? Lots of things to do?

Oooh also, is there any way to get the golden idol if you mess up the quest with the little girl? I'm at the point now where both Caxton and Madelene are asking for idols, and I gave Caxton the silver one, but now all I can find are cursed idols. I bit the bullet and looked up where to find them after getting frustrated looking for a second one, and for some reason I can't figure out I got cursed idols both in the Witchwood and at Hillfigure Knoll, which I've read are supposed to be bronze idols, and ages ago when I tried to do the quest with the spoiled little girl she tripped and fell maybe 30 meters out her front door, and I tried to pick her up to help her with R2, which obviously came off as man handling and she ran right for a city guard and got me arrested, which caused me to fail the quest, and I couldn't remember the last time I saved, and figured it was just a silly little quest anyway, so I didn't reload. So that quest is just failed for me. So really my only option has been to give Madelene a cursed idol, but I've just been putting it off because it seems like a bad option.

In order to get your equipment dragonforged by the drake you already need to have whatever you want upgraded to +3 already and depending on what you're using that can be a pain. Your best bet is to just kill the main dragon for all your equipment to be dragonforged (your main pawn doesn't get dragonforged) and then enter into post game as Pendant said. There you can encounter more of the different types of dragonkin, some that are very easy to find if you've already done a bit of exploring.

Yes, there are new enemies that are added into post-game, new quests, and then you have access to the everfall. Also, I won't spoil it, but there is a certain enemy that comes back in a quest that you pick up in post game.

    Lots. The world completely changes.

@ Grin - That is not true. If your stuff is at least 1 star  the Drake may DF your stuff, albeit the chances are much lower. 3 star  is easily your best bet, however.

Well I guess I'll just wait for that then. No sense worrying about farming something that takes a little while to kill each time if I don't have to.

Also, just in case you didn't see it:

Then the wiki lied to me! How dare they!

As far as the idols go it seems like you can't get the gold idol, however since you can't forge the silver idol now it seems as though the best you can do is give Madeleine the bronze idol. Hold off if it's a cursed idol, that probably won't end well although I have no idea what will happen.

No, sorry buddy, you effed up your shot at the gold idol. As for the cursed idols, I would hold off, I'm pretty sure they are the worst option. It's odd that you say they are cursed idols and not bronze idols the idols I got from Selene's Hut and the Dragonforged's cave were both bronze idols for me.

Well to be fair I'd gotten them a long time before I knew their value, along with having searched the Abby thoroughly, and I always just throw all my materials into storage when I get back to town, so I'm sure I didn't just chuck them when I picked them up. Once I got the quests and knew that I needed them I went into storage to pull them out and I had 3 cursed idols in my inventory and no others, and I've since gone back to search both of those places and there are no idols there. So I'm assuming they were cursed when I got them. I have no other explanation.

The only other thing I could think of is that they're time sensitive and were bronze when I originally picked them up, but the description doesn't say that they are, and I wouldn't think it'd make much sense for a piece of bronze to be time sensitive anyway.

NPCs are depressed because of the state of affairs in the land, especially with the Dragon nesting there.

Dragonforging your gear is well worth it, as it raises the gears stats a lot. You get your stuff dragonforged by killing any Dragonkin. However, there is % chance of your Arisen's currently equipped gear getting dragonforged based on it's upgrade level and the enemy you fight.

    Drake and other lesser Dragonkin:
    0 Stars - 0%
    1 Star - 2%
    2 Stars - 6%
    3 Stars -18%

    Spoiler:
    The Dragon:
    100% on everything

    Ur-Dragon (offline):
    0 Stars - 0%
    1 Star - 2%
    2 Stars - 10%
    3 Stars - 30%

    Ur-Dragon (online)
    100% on everything

You can get Gold Idol only from the quest with Fornival's daughter, or by receiving as a gift from another player.

Bronze Idols (yes, there are two) are in Hillfigure Knoll and in Witchwood.
    Spoiler:

    Witchwood - in Selene's hut.
Hillfigure Knoll - in the Lair of the Dragonforged.

Do not give the vendors Cursed Idols they will not do anything noteworthy. Also, don't give them forgeries. It is slightly amusing to do so though. silly

Post game includes a fully revealed Everfall, which contains the best gear, but also the hardest enemies.
It also contains a special super boss, Ur-Dragon, which, if you're online, has a HP pool of several millions HP and takes the combined effort of all online players to kill. You fight it with a time limit, after which it will fly away and the damage you did to it is added to the total amount of damage dealt by every online player currently fighting it, until you manage to finish it off.

If at all possible, I strongly recommend getting the Dark Arisen edition. It includes the original Dragon's Dogma, but also all DLCs released before Dark Arisen itself. The new content will enable you to play the game on much more challenging Hard Mode and opens you a brand new location, the Bitterblack Isle, which is decent replacement for Souls games. The place has similar, gloomy atmosphere and extremely tough enemies.

    EDIT:
Those Curse Idols are just that. They are not time sensitive. You should have time sensitivity always written in the itme's description.
They are required for some upgrades and for a quest. Not the one with merchants though, even though you can use them there as well.

I plan to get Dark Arisen when I can afford it. It'll probably until next month before I have excess money I can blow on games. It's definitely in the cards for me when that time comes again though.

Yeah I searched both of those places again after I found the cursed ones in my item storage and there aren't idols at either place. I even remember picking up the one at the HK. It was on one of the stones with the candles near where he sits. I remember picking it up and thinking "oh another one of these. Must be good for something."

I'm starting to think that the inventory systems have some minor glitches that might account for it. I've been noticing lately that I'll be out in the wilds and pick up a bunch of a material that I know I need for something and then when I get back to town and go to put them in storage I have maybe 2 of them, when I'm sure I picked up more than that. Shiverberries are a prime example. I know I picked up like 5 of them on an excursion the other night, and when I got back to the inn in Gran Soren there were 2 in my inventory. I know it's not my pawns getting them too, because when it's an item I need I always check their inventories and move that stuff into my own if they did happen to be the ones who picked them up.

If you're looking for an item in your inventory, the best thing to do is to send your pawns away and remove everything from you Arisen and Main Pawn. Then auto sort your inventory and search for the item.
If you're 100% certain you picked it up and didn't use/give/sell the item, yet it's still missing, then I'm afraid it was some sort of bug/glitch. If it's Bronze Idols, I may be able to provide you with one, or two. I should have even a spare Silver Idol, if I didn't give it to anyone.

As for any consumables, of any kind. They can be used by your pawns, usually with them commenting on doing so. The chances of this happening are dependant on the pawns Medicant and Utilitarian traits.

    Pro tip:
There's a Healing Spring north, very north of Gran Soren (you'll see it when you find it), where you can use Empty Flasks to store on unlimited number of Spring Water, which heals around 350 HP to the whole party on usage.
Load your pawns with them and enjoy. twisted

If it's something consumable I tend to check their inventories immediately after I see it picked up, like the shiverberries. Even if I think I picked it up. I don't know what the deal is with the idols. I really don't. If you have a silver or bronze you don't need that'd be awesome. Not sure if you can take my pawn across the DLC gap though.

I've been using the healing spring near the Catacombs for my spring waters. I honestly haven't even really needed them yet though. The only fights that've really given me any problems so far were the drake before I was high enough level to have any business trying to fight it, and ogres for the same reason. Now that I am though I'm not really having any problems. I have a tendency to over level because I like to fart around and explore everything I can before I move the story along. I was level 20ish before I even got to Gran Soren. I remember thinking it was funny that the story made me run from the tentacles in the Everfell because I was just eating them for breakfast at the bottom before I realized my pawns were all running away.

I guess it's possible that I sold my idols considering I got them so much sooner than I knew that I needed them for something, and there was a time that I was having some money problems and was selling materials. I was only really selling stuff that I had tons of though, like Gransys Herbs, and so on. I don't think I sold theme consciously, but I guess it's possible. Pretty lame that I don't have them either way though.

     WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAIT. FAST TRAVEL?

In original DD Ferrystones costed 20,000 in bloody gold and you got one Port Crystal, which you could place anywhere on the map to warp to with the Ferrystone.

In DA, Ferrystones cost 2,000 in shiny gold, you get I believe, five, maybe more Port Crystals and after NG+, you can buy them to have up to nine for 200,000 in omfg gold each (but by NG+ money is something you'll have tons of). Also, Gran Soren and Cassasrdis both have permanent Port Crystal, that you can warp to anytime.

Needless to say that this makes travelling MUCH faster.

Do you get the portable port crystal in the vanilla game as part of the main quest? I'd like to think I'm pretty far in at this point. Just trying to figure out how far off I am from getting it. Trying to travel to places like the Greatwall over and over are starting to get trying.
