All about Poise Empty All about Poise

Alright, there is something that is confusing me about Poise.

I know what it does, I've been playing as a Black Iron tank with 119 poise for a while now. I understand that having 119 poise is a little bit of overkill. I also know that you only need 79 or so poise to be good for PvP and a poise of around 40 will prevent you from getting stunned from arrows in PvE.

But what is a good base line Poise stat for normal PvE? I switched my chest piece for a black cleric set because it fits well with my character concept and the duster looks bad ***. With the wolf ring, I'll have 88 poise with this set up. I'd like to switch up the wolf ring for ring of the first born in order to boost my miracles, but that would drop my poise to 48.

i think iron with cleric robe has 38 poise, i know cause i use it all the time, looks awesome. anyway, imo poise is not needed in pve, i tend to go more with light armor that has a lot better res than the medium or heavy armors, xanthous, dingy, maiden and panting gurading come to mind. try them against bosses and see which one works best.

That's the thing. I feel in love with the tank build when, after being eaten by Sif multiple times, I donned heavy armor with a strong shield and just tanked down Sif with little problem. After that, I've been tanking in PvE with little problem.

But, now I know that my tanking has been a reflection of my shield, and not necessarily my poise. I do like how I can attack while being hit, but that doesn't really apply to bosses, since I just block, move, and counter.

what matters is that you have fun, if you like tanking just keep doing it. i always go for looks, i mix and match something that i think looks good specially when im pvp'ing. i always use the stone shield when i wanna use shields cause it looks awesome. maybe try cosplaying?

Alright. This guy will never be a pure PvP build anyway and is destined to fat roll all his life.

I guess I just need to try playing without the wolf ring for a bit and see just how much it affects my gameplay. Here's my guy now..

Note, the Greatshield of Artorias isn't in the drop down list.

Cool. That's a more balanced build than my guy will be. I figured out that he won't be "complete" until SL 150, but I'm sure I'll still be able to occasionally get some PvP action at that level.

I decided to get two sets ready, my standard PvE set and a PvP set. With my low end, it's tough to find decent armor that will not make me fat roll with a +15 greatsword and a fire effigy shield.

reppd up for the effigy shield, i think if youre a faith build you should use that thing(or anything found in the catacombs or tog) just for the cool factor, i have a fire effigy too. and yeah if youre using the gsoa you might wanna take your guy above 200sl since thats whe it starts shining. i never use great shields, i prefer medium shields.

I always use black armor chest with giant armor variations, for look and poise, but these days I have been trying out using lighter armor just to not depend so much on poise, although getting staggered and killed instantly by say a GSOA and having no way to escape
    is a big problem.
