EA might overprice next gen games - petition against this

Post by Kiva the wanderer on Wed Jul 24, 2013 11:34 am

Note to forward to your friends:

    Hi!

I just signed the petition "EA: Do not increase video game prices to $80 / £55 " on Change.org.

It's important. Will you sign it too? Here's the link:

    http://www.change.org/petitions/ea-do-not-increase-video-game-prices-to-80-55? share_id=NQpckfmqBv&utm_ campaign=signature_receipt& utm_medium=email&utm_source=share_petition

    Thanks!

    Ethan

Copy paste of the email I got for signing the petition
If the link doesn't work check out StoneFoxMedia on YouTube he has a video linking the petition.

If it was ALL games manufacturers, I could understand the petition and sign it. However, if it's just one, then it wont happen. I mean they're gonna jack up the price anyway, but you should at least tell them all not to do it instead of **** on EA. They deserve flak sure, but they alone don't controll pricing

Look.at the standards EA set, Online passes and shady DLC practices so if EA charge these price's and still
Sell or make a lot of money then other companies developers etc will follow suit so I feel that it's best to give EA hell for this if it does indeed happen .

If they really do this and none of the other publishers go along with it, then they'll likely just be shooting themselves in the foot. Nobody's going to shell out 50%-75% of a whole new console's price for a single game. I just hope I'm not being overly optimistic in my judgements on the Madden players of the world. They have their limits too...right?

I don't disagree with trying but I won't bother signing on the basis of this logic;if EA want more money, they won't get it by being obvious about ripping people off and will have to match competitors' prices sooner or later.

I think people are a bit paranoid about EA,nobody seems to get how Activision rip you off even worse in their games.I'm fine with not buying either company's games since they rarely publish anything half decent anyway.

You think Madden is bad? Fifa (the football one) has the whole of Europe by the balls- if anyone has a games console, they have fifa. Even people who don't even like football play it just because everyone else does. It ridiculous.. The only games in britain that outsell it are CODs.

Why does EA hold so many powerful franchises... Prostration

It's better this way, actually. If you'd edited the original post, it would ruin the initial jab of the joke. Now the exchange of cross-culture wordplay can be read and understood by all future readers pony03

People still buy games by EA ?

Seriously if you're willing to take the plunge with that company then frankly you deserve all the consequences it entails.

Hmm Yankball. I'll have to remember that term, it sums it up quite nicely.

Regarding prices, personally I'm not bothered and I say this by looking at current games selling new for £18 on Amazon while being sold on the PSN store for £60 bare bones. Nothing will change this generation and even if it did become the norm then companies will find out soon enough that their revenue will be even smaller with competitors reaping the rewards through competitive prices.

how is this possible i know it says might but ea cant possibly do this because next gen games will stay at 59.99 (plus tax) new, plus this cant happen wouldn't other companies have to do this to and wouldn't microsft and sony have to do some terms of agreement?

Raising prices doesn't directly equate to making more money though. Besides, this argument doesn't really seem like it would apply to EA. Obviously I don't know their exact profits/losses numbers, but they're a big enough publisher with several cash cow franchises that I seriously doubt they're hurting for money, at least to the extent that they'd do something this risky.

Well it's their own fault if they're in trouble. Bad management spending and unrealistic expected sales are not the fault of the consumer. Game companies are not charities that the consumer should keep afloat. Many companies that manage correctly don't suffer so all these excuses other companies use are to cover what the real issue are.

I dont buy ea games anymore not after how they ruined dead space maybe ill buy Battlefront if its any good but I'm more worried about the way it could affect other companies, EA are to blame for the damn online pass so if they set s new standard with overpriced games I'm just going to stick with current Gen.

actually Gamestop created online passes inadvertently by basicly stealing money from the developers by pushing used sales so they created online passes to fight that

That's not stealing- the game has been sold, therefore it's not property of the publisher any more.

You wouldn't pay the car company everytime you resold a car, or pay the music company money for selling a CD. Don't get why games producers think they are entitled to extra. It's their own fault for making the initial product more expensive so people seek out preowned games

Some people treat piracy and used game sales as some major threat but if that's the case then the most pirated console of the seventh generation, the Wii should have bombed yet prices for a good portion of their games still sell for a good price even now.

Apparently a 100 million dollar 20 hour game that isn't worth playing through a second time can't be a reason for people buying used games can it now. rolling eyes

The argument that inflation in the gaming industry is good is fallacious, you're not talking about a necessity, you're talking about a commodity. This isn't like hiking up the price of corn, you're hiking up the price of a digital medium in a branch where its consumers are already picky. Hiking up the prices means that customers will have a harder time justifying the purchase, especially in this economy.

EA is not a trendsetter, microtransactions have always existed in a specific subset of games, namely MMO's, EA games have microtransactions because they profit from it from their mobile games. The Online Pass wasn't anything that EA started, Sony started the initiative of allowing publishers to produce games with a restricted online portion that would be unlocked by a one time code, they announced this initiative, and along with EA, Ubisoft and a few other companies ALSO published their newest titles with an online pass.

This petition is pointless because it runs off rumours and assumes that EA has any kind of monopoly on game standards. I assure you, EA isn't stupid enough to do this, and if they are, they deserve the "less than spectacular" sales they get annually which will inevitably lead to their bankruptcy. Furthermore, you assume big companies listen to internet petitions over their stockholders, their board of directors and their investors. When you're talking about a big company like EA, you're not directly paying their bills, your purchase is part of a big sales number to please stockholders and investors so they'll continue paying EA's lucrative bills.

Remembering that you are going to die is the best way I know to avoid the trap of thinking you have something to lose. You are already naked. There is no reason not to follow your heart.

I should mention Change.org is generally for social injustice, someone being killed for their ethnicity and a blind eye being turned to it due to a legal loophole, political struggles between groups that can really effect countries, the adding of dangerous materials to food products, etc.  I love video games and they're important to me.  But they aren't human rights important, which is the point of Change.org.
