    Game still worth playing?

Post by Wilkinson3424 on Tue Jul 23, 2013 2:40 pm

Well somebody which I will not name spoiled both endings for me, which is rude but ill get over it because I know that his maturity level has not grown yet which is fine. But I want to know is if the game still good if you know what the two endings of the game are? Is it still worth playing or should I just sit in a corner and wait for dark souls 2?

What I am currently doing is fighting the dragon god but I have made some progress in most other parts of the game, not sure if the game is worth completing though, now that I know what I can become.

PS. Im a huge lore nerd so the story is very important for me and I love to figure out how my brave hero finally decides how to end his story, so is there anything else left to make me gasp or make me pick blue or red wire? Don't spoil anything else please.

Ummm, imo the endings are so insignificant to the bulk of the story/background that whatever you decide in the end wont hurt your experience at all. Just play the game absorbing what's in front of you and try not to look at what's to come.

Still worth playing. IMO the endings are kinda bad compared to the rest of the game, and the choice at the end isn't really the best part of the final bit for me.

Anyways, YES still worth plsying. It's no poise, and much faster so it's a whole different ball game than dark. I'd recommend you limit yourself when you play with grass though as you'll find it too easy with all the grass they shower you with

It's one of the best PS3 games. Since it's not a heavy story game like Heavy Rain, for example, I think you can play it and enjoy it to it's fullest, even if you know how it all ends. You don't know the journey to reach those ends yet and those are far more epic than the ending itself.

This is a game whose story is the journey. I think you should approach it like many of us did with Dark Souls. I for one, assumed there would be two endings and that they would have that idea of final choice for your character. I think I might have been on to something. I enjoyed that game immensely and I think you will too. Make sure you're exploring and finding NPCs and stuff. They're what really shine.

Honestly, the endings aren't that big of a deal.  Since you've said you know the endings via your mouthy informer, I don't feel too bad saying this, but they're very much like Dark Souls's endings in that it's just up to what the player wanted to do with their personal game world.  Lore-wise the endings only have two implications, and the same two implications as in Dark Souls; do you prolong the inevitable death of the world or do you doom it for your own personal gain?  Whichever one your "brave hero" picks is entirely up to you as a player, and no other actions taken in-game can determine the outcome beyond your personal roleplaying preferences.

As to what can influence those decisions and make you decide if the world is worth saving or not, you say you're a lore nerd so I assume you know this but I'll type it just for emphasis, you need to pay attention to the world around you.  Read item descriptions.  Read into the emotions behind characters' dialogues.  Study where things are placed and how the environment is laid out.  Find the clues and reach conclusions.  You're at the Dragon God, so you've played through all of Stonefang, right?  Think of things like this:

    Still spoilered for your convenience:
Based only off of these three clues found in the last bits of Stonefang:
    1) The Flamelurker's arena is covered in the skeletons of dragons.
    2) Shortly behind these is a temple housing the one and only remaining living dragon, who is pinned down and ready to be detained at any moment.
    3) The Stonefang citizens had developed a weapon, the Dragon Bone Smasher, specifically to fight off and defeat dragons.

Did the Stonefang citizens dig too deep and uncover an ancient secret best left forgotten and developed what they needed to survive against this threat they accidentally stumbled upon?  Or did they discover the dragons and develop techniques to slaughter them in a greedy attempt to harvest their bones for crafting materials, only to have the leader and most powerful of the dragons drive them away whereupon they sealed said leader in a prison?

There are other outlooks, of course, but how you interpret things like these through observation will affect the appropriateness of the ending rather than the actual contents of the ending itself.

I suppose you are right, And my save data got corrupted right after I wrote this post. So yay. Ill start out as something hard so I feel challenged by the souls games again, I need that feeling again. Ill probably start as deprived or thief. Something unreliable at first but can get you places.

Can't say I'd be one to pick up on that seeing as how I'm woefully unlearned in Berserk, having only seen the recently-made movies and having never seen the anime or read the manga straight face

    But interesting and informative.

I'll go back and hide in the empty void that is the anime thread now...

MLGS seems closer to the Dragonslayer Sword from Berserk in terms of design.
While the Greatsword (DkS) is almost exact copy of Guts' sword he used before.
A lot of the weapons and armor from Souls games are inspired by Berserk.
    Take Catarina armor for example.

    Spoiler:

This particular example was even confiremd by Miyazaki himself in the interview in the Dark Souls Design Works.

Wiki's Artorias page has some cool Beserk trivia at the bottom as well.

As for playing DeS, let me go out on a limb and suggest that yes, you should play and finish it.  No one can be told what the endings are, you have to see them for yourselves.

I would say it's worth continuing since quite a few of us here are playing it now. Even after a 2 year break I'm finding things I never knew before.

if you accept the quest from the monumental you already know how it probably end, and the other ending makes no difference imo

in a forum about a 4 years old game you shouldn't be surprised to get spoiled and the ending is nothing that is really relevant.

you probably already know about ct and wt - that is a huge spoiler if you know about it

Absolutely.  Still a great game.  Controls are much the same as Dark, but like someone else already mentioned, the game speed is a bit faster, and with no poise you need to be a bit more measured with your attack.  I just like getting out for some of the coop, with all the new people playing.  Hopefully they turn into fans and increase the community for DkS2!

From what I seen and played, In Dark Souls you make your own desitions. It affects/effects the ending of the game imo.
