What is an assassin?
- Spoiler:
An assassin is a character who relies on stealth and speed to ensure that they stay undetected for as long as possible to deliver an unseen backstab that hopefully produces a one-hit kill
- Spoiler:
- This has a little leeway, and assassin builds may vary, but they all follow a general outline:
1.) Assassins should generally think about stopping at a max of SL 50. A lethal backstab is essential to an assassin, and above SL 50 people gain much more health while your power drastically suffers from diminishing returns from Dex. Stopping at SL 99 or SL 120 also leaves you stuck mostly with areas where people expect fights, making it near impossible to invade unwary people.
2.) The number 1 TOP PRIORITY stat for any assassin over level 20 is Dex. Dex should be increased until 40-50
3.) The second priority is intelligence and attunement: 15 int, and 10, 12, or 14 attunement to be exact. 15 int ensures that all appropriate spells can be used, while 14 attunement allows you to use a few important spells.
4.) Once you have enough dex and the spells you want, you can turn your focus to endurance. While equipment load isn't important to assassins, who shouldn't have any problem being below <25% equip weight, assassins do spend a lot of stamina chasing and running away from a target. This is nowhere near as important as dex, and a good assassin can thrive on the minimum amount of dex, but this still has some use.
5.) All other stats are USELESS to assassins.
- Spoiler:
Rule 1: Stay undetected until you deliver your fatal backstab.
Rule 2: Upon the event of your target not dying after a backstab, you may either: A) Quickly try to finish the job with your secondary weapon or B) Run away and leave the target's world
3: Upon failure of staying undetected you may either: A) Run away and try to find another spot to ambush or B) Run away and leave the target's world
4: ALWAYS avoid a straight fight
- Spoiler:
- Armor: Assassins should wear dark colored, cloth armor that blends in with the color of the background. For example, dark-blue should be worn in the forest, brown should be worn in Anor Londo, etc. If armor that blends into the background isn't available, then dark colored or black armor will be efficient enough.
*Avoid enchanting weapons to fire or lightning paths, since weapon contact produces a loud noise.
Right handed primary weapon: This will be the weapon you use to get your lethal one-hit backstabs. Suitable weapons are any dagger, and some thrusting swords. A full list:- Dagger
- Ghost Blade - A good weapon for assassins who are level 20 or lower. High base damage, but low weapon scaling means that backstabs are relatively powerful even without much dex
- Bandit Knife - One of the best weapons for back stabs.
- Parrying Dagger
- Priscilla's Dagger - Should be avoided as a primary weapon
- Dark Silver Tracer - The best weapon for backstabs without contest
- Rapier
- Mail Breaker
Right handed secondary weapons: These are weapons you rely on if your target is still clinging to life after a backstab. Use these weapons to quickly snuff out the light of your victim for good.- Bandit's Knife - causes bleed
- Painting Guardian sword - Causes bleed
- Shotel - Ignores shields
- Jagged Ghost Blade - causes bleed
- Gold Tracer - Causes bleed
Left handed weapon: Assassins are allowed to carry an offhand weapon to parry. Shields are strictly prohibited. Any Right handed secondary weapon can also be used as an offhand weapon, including a parrying dagger
Left handed miscellaneous weapon:
Oolacile Ivory Catalyst - The lightest and smallest catalyst for casting assassin appropriate spells.
Bow - Highly discouraged, as arrows lack the power to kill and will often just alert a target to your presence after doing a negligible amount of damage. Although, there may be some situations where a bow could be of use
Acceptable rings:- Hornet Ring - This ring is VITAL to an assassin and should never be taken off
- Cloranthy ring
- Ring of Fog
- Red Tearstone Ring
- Slumbering Dragoncrest Ring
- Rusted Iron Ring
- Dagger
- Spoiler:
- Hush
- Hidden Body
- Chameleon - The most important spell for an assassin
- Hidden Weapon
- Aural Decoy
- Hush
