Very little. 40 end and no RoFP or grass crest shield I can get 7-8 swings off. With the right buffs I'm guessing I could do more.

very little if one handed they don't slow down by any type of shield and they do bleed damage so if they keep swinging at your shield you'll eventually lose 50% of your health

Thats what happened I had my shield up waiting for an opening and completely forgot to watch my bleed build up haha. Well guess since its NG++ I might as well join the club and get one now.

Yup, katanas are a weapon class that shouldn't be judged by their damage ratings! Very good weapons in Dark Souls. They're very fast, take little stamina, have good move sets, and decent range. Not to mention their damage is good (buffed, it's ridiculous!) and they cause bleeding. Probably the best damage per second of any weapon in the game, I have no doubt.
They make PvE a joke. And are very fun for PvP. Join the club!

What Blaine said. Wouldn't trade my Katana's for the world. I don't like the Washing pole much, but the Uchi is ok and the Iaito is pure solid gold plated win.

Katanas are great! i use my Katanas since release date and almost everyone was laughing at me back then so i know why i use this weapon... not because of the look or because everyone else uses it (now). definately one of the best weapons if u know how to handle them

I love the Uchi for it's ability to both slash and thrust, which makes for better versatility when dueling. (Washing Pole has same moves and much greater reach, but needs a lot more str and gets blocked in tight areas)
I here the whole 'everybody is using one' thing, but whatever. They fit my playing style better and the same could be said for the BKGA

Katanas are great in this game, which made me a little disappointed since that's all anyone would use in Demon's Souls so I was hoping they would scale the pwnage down a little bit for them in Dark. Iaito +15 seems to be the way to go.

They're not my favorite weapons, but that's partly because I'm sick of seeing them so much. If you find yourself on the other side of a katana, my advice is to switch to a poise smashing weapon and two hand it. That way they can't unload a full bar of stamina without getting staggered and stunlocked.

In some ways, kats are even better in DkS than DS, because they're no longer weak against turtles, as OP discovered. Then again, they don't have the f'd up offhand attack/pushlock anymore.

First pvp build I did: High Dex/32 int build, for CMW on my +15 Uchigatana. it does more than 600 damage.

I'm just waiting til' people stop using shields with 'em. I guess a shield on the back is okay, but it still looks dumb.

Yup, One of my accounts was Dex/Faith +15 Iato with sunlight blade sooo good, and the bleeding is great vs Turtles and for PvE
