Mobility vs Defense. Empty Mobility vs Defense.

    Post by EXViin0M Wed Mar 07, 2012 12:57 pm

Hi Guys. Dark Souls noob here ( even demon's souls noob, since i'm playing those two ) so dont kill me for this question.
As i started going through the game i noticed that, if i want to equip a better equipment, i have to move around slower, fatrolling n etc.
So, just to know what you guys think..
What is better, for your playstyle?
Heavy Armored Tank which needs 3 hours to take a step, or a superspeed guy with the defense of a piece of peper?
I still have to decide what to do, i've done two characters right now ( i'm playing with them both, just entered blightown ) one is a pyromancer and the other one is a Knight.
While the first always have an Equip Burden under 25%, the other one is nearly 70%.
So, well, what do you think about this?
ps: Just to know, it is because of the Low Def with the Pyro that, even if i Defend with the shield, sometimes i take damage? or some attacks break defense?
    Thanks Guys big grin

Mobility AND Defense is what you're aiming for.

just best armour you can wear while staying under 50%

I just posted something like this. I enjoy my fat rolling character. He's in full black iron and is a freaking beast. I enjoy blocking and countering rather than dodging and attacking. In PvE, it all comes down to preference. But in PvP, I often get beaten by players who can roll in, strike and roll out before I can hit them.

There are counters to everything, and nothing is better than the other. I hope this helped even though it was confusing.

It is about how much your equip load is. Anything over 1/2 will make u fat roll. Over 1/4 is the medium roll. And under 1/4 is fast roll. You can increase your equip load by lvling up your endurance so you can medium roll with heavier armor. Or you can get mask of the father, havels ring to increase your equip load.

Sadly it isn't mobility versus Defense if you get the DWGR, it is just Mobility and Defense as Serious mentioned. You can wear pretty much the best armor in the game while moving just as fast as anyone else. Without that in mind I'd say for PvP Mobility, and PvE Defense.

Also the reason while blocking that you still take damage is because of your shield. If the shield doesn't say 100 against physical, regular attacks will slip through. Elemental attacks will always do some sort of damage, though some shields can really mitigate them, as well as armor.

A question on this... if you get staggered and someone attacks you do your defense ratings stay the same?

I guess what I want to know is that in PvP are defense ratings important at all or just the poise rating?

Poise is extremely important, but Defense is as well. Defense will always reduce the damage you are taking from the proper forces, while poise just prevents the staggers and locks. I'd say Poise is more important, but still wearing proper armors is. Usually you'll want to block out lightning and Physical attacks, because they are the most common.

OK thanks... so to make sure I have this correct... if I were to get to 76 Poise using a Wolf Ring and wearing some relatively crappy armor (Havels boots & gloves + starting chest & head,) that wouldn't be as effective as say a full suit of heavy armor?

Well a common thing is using Havel's legs and hands for poise, then using another set like Elite Knight or Paladin for the chest, and a mask for the head. Usually this gives you great defense, mobility, and good poise especially with that ring. Actually I think with that set up you don't need the ring, but I can't remember the actual numbers.

If I had to choose one over the other completely I would choose mobility though....
