So let’s get straight to it and this theory. One thing I forgot about the pendant is the fact that we can get it through only limited means almost all of them, with the exception of character creation, are through violence. Think about it, the only other ways we can get it are through the death of Reah or through reigning down vengeance upon those that intrude in the forest. Coincidence? No, I don’t believe it is.
The more I thought about the forest covenant and what it does the more I realized it was like the Spirits of Vengeance looking for those that have done wrong and in the case of the Forest Hunters that means intrusion. However, I didn’t remember a tie to the SoV until I looked at the wiki and realized that if you trade the pendant to Snuggly you get a souvenir of reprisal an item that you can use in the SoV.
Now, the more I thought about it, there was a dark intent behind the pendant one of vengeance for some wrong that was done. Now, though, questions arose. Who did we need to avenge? Who wants us to avenge this person… or thing?
The only way we can attain our item of vengeance is through a strange bird that cannot fly, but has the potential to. The first thing that came to my mind were the dragons but they were extinct, except for the dragon at Ash Lake, but let’s be honest if we can cut off his tail and not have him attack us he obviously doesn’t care about anything. Questions kept on surfacing in my head, until I saw a picture of a UFO crash.
Now this is just speculation but I think it is in the realm of possibility that in the late 1920’s a UFO was shot down by the United States and it was piloted by an alien. Once it couldn’t back to space it realized it was stuck on earth and wanted to avenge it’s UFO. Decades later after making an overly complex plain to avenge it’s UFO it brainwashed Miyazaki into programming the pendant into Dark Souls because it knew Dark Souls would be a success.
What does the Pendant do? I think what it’s really here to do is to brainwash us the more we carry around the pendant until we are made into an army for this alien. Whether Miyazaki knows it or not we are all falling into a hypnosis of this alien until we want nothing more to destroy everything that isn’t related to Dark Souls and once that happens this alien will have finally avenged it’s UFO and probably disappear forever.
