Souped Up Basic PvP & Memorization Mini-Game

Post by RedneckChamp on Fri Jul 12, 2013 9:52 pm

    Hello everyone,

I would like to get a group of fellow Dark Souls lovers together on PC Version or other Consoles but PLEASE SPECIFY, Friday, July 19, 2013 and have a fight club/duel session.  Also, I have a few ideas for some mini-games we could do while in the game as well.  Basically, I want to have fun and record the footage for my YouTube channel.  Obviously, if you're a recorder then you can too!

The fight club/duels will be setup with a few rules, I would like to do a couple different ones and I will try to layout the ground rules for them both.

1.) Souped Up Basics: Enough with the supertoons!

I figured you might like that name, lol.  I would like everyone who is involved to pick a starting class they really enjoy.  Build that character however you want to build up to the maximum level.  You may ONLY use the equipment given to you at the beginning of the game(Starter Items). So for ease of reading, let me list the simple rules.
a.)    SL 50 Max.  That is really easy to get and will not make you to OP.  Basic SL is just a little bland to me, lol.  Build your character however you feel will give you an edge.
b.)    Use ONLY the items you start with on the character you choose. You may level those items up to their max, but nothing more.
c.)    If you start with Soul Arrow(Sorcerer), that’s all you should ever use for spells.  If you start with Fireball(Pyromancy) then that’s all the spells you can use!  Only things you can use is what you start with.
d.)   You can only have the number of castings you would normally start off with as well.  No grinding extra casts, etc.
e.)    All item buffs are a welcoming addition.(Green Blossom & Resins)
f.)     NO bombs, knives, Dung, etc.  If it’s an item you can throw at someone then just assume you can’t use it.  I know you may like starting with Black Firebombs but I just want straight up fighting, nothing extra.  There will be NO healing so it doesn’t matter about Loyd’s Talismans.
g.)    That’s about it.  We can talk about anything else while in Skype or any other Vocal Software! big grin

    2.) There’s No “I” In Team…but there should be!

This will be a no hold bars thing in the Arena.  We will discuss the specifics on Skype(etc) but play as whatever you want just don’t be over SL130.  Anything from SL1-130, just however you want it.  I want us to do some team Arenas if we have enough time!  It’s all about fun and learning how to be better players!  Plus, I want to get to know as many of you as I can!

The Mini-Games will be random stuff I want to throw together.  I would like to at least see how well everyone knows the game and its surroundings.  We will have folks hide in Chameleon form and let someone run through the areas.  We will have a point scheme to see who will win after several rounds(areas).  This will be hilarious I’m sure!  So let’s put your memorization skills to the test!

Anyways, if you would be interested please add me on Windows Live: RedneckChamp88 or message me here or YouTube. (http://youtube.com/redneckemperor)  I really want this to take place and if you’re interested we will join up in some kind of chatting software area.  I’m fine with Skype but it’s up to the majority really!  Just leave me your thoughts below on anything else you think would be cool or fun!

    Thanks for the read!

I actually meant July 19, 2013. I guess my computer autocorrected it. The event is still on!

Excellent!  I'm extremely excited that you are interested!  I will need to know what platform you are playing on as well(with requests from Reddit I'm opening it up for everyone but PC mainly) so I can get some basic ideas.  If you will, please post in a reply and I will start adding your names to the first post.  Thanks!

For SL 50 bandit is the only character that could realistically use maxed scaling by 2h axe at 27 str, distributing rest in vit/end.  However, under such rules elemental weapons could give some of the other classes a big chance, especially the knight would be a real pain as the only guy with poise + good speed weapon.

I agree with you completely and have been considering the change in SL to something lower. This is meant for fun, the combatants are welcome to choose any build/class they want.  In the end, it doesn't matter how much poise or health you have if you don't have skill to back that up.  I'm lacking a lot in that area so it's about learning and having a good time!

That's absolutely fine.  I would like to gather a large group together, perferably on Skype or some other chatting software and talk.  We can have a General group with other Groups as we begin the team battles.  Again, I want this to be a fun experience but a learning experience!

But it does.  Both are central elements in whether one side can trade consistently.  Especially without healing, that's a big advantage.  In a match between two reasonably good players, you'll be forced to make predictions as to what your opponent will do in order to land hits.  If one side can stagger the other and get a 2-for-1, or can simply survive multiple additional hits, then not just skill, but the build itself matters immensely.

Against anybody but the knight, the hunter might be able to simply timing stagger slower weapons like the axe.  Faster weapons can attack + roll back with much more impunity, because the window where the bandit could trade is miniscule (indeed, many of the other weapons could start attacking later than him and still interrupt the attack with stagger, dealing lots of damage while receiving none), whereas a tanked out build could trade by taking a poke and delivering a risky hit that can stunlock briefly.  The cleric is at a similar disadvantage; the mace is an amazing str weapon and its poise break and staggerstab are real threats, but it needs poise to reach its potential.  Sure, you *can* win sometimes without that, but against someone of equal ability one generally won't, and definitely won't be able to show its true potential.

You also have to mind that while you banned things like dung pies and poison knives, you didn't ban poison arrows.  For most classes, that's irrelevant but the hunter starts with a bow and could use them to more effect than usual with relatively low vitality almost everyone will have and know that the shots will easily stagger all but 1 class.

I think one of these two wins under the rules:

    http://mmdks.com/36at

http://mmdks.com/36au (I forget hunter's starting armor/shield, but it would have 0 trouble fast rolling and firing arrows or sword swipe + roll)

    Hello All!

Due to the lack in signups I will be canceling the event for today.  I will be online more of the day, however, reviewing the information you have offered me in regards to the rules and tying out some different builds.  If you would like, please add me on Windows Live: redneckchamp88

I'm open to still hosting some No Hold Bars arena matches in you would be interested but just shoot me a message in game or here if interested!

Thanks for all the help and guidance and I will be re-scheduling this soon!

    Take care!
