Sif fight, low level, host was wielding a large weapon. Went to swing, but sif jumped and it looked as if the host canceled the swing.  Can you do that?

Yes, works the same as canceling a spell, except you have VERY few frames to do it, in most cases it's impossible without a slow weapon.

Start casting a spell while moving, unlock (if you were locked on) and quickly turn 180°.
You must do it in the few first frames of the casting animation.

Since swing is canceled, do you retain stamina too?

That's an interesting question. I tried googling, but found no answer. Since you retain your spell casts upon spell canceling, I guess you'll also keep your Stamina if you cancel a weapon swing. Makes sense, after all, you didn't swing the weapon.

Canceling a Weapon Swing usually results in no stamina use, since most weapons take the stamina at the end of the swing. Some quicker weapons will consume stamina at the start of the swing too.

Weapon Cancelling also can produce a very horrible exploit with some weapons, where the weapon continues to be "active" and does damage to things that touch it, though what precisely causes this is unknown.
