    Indie Games? Empty Indie Games?

    Post by Noob-of-Artorias Wed Jul 10, 2013 1:14 am

Anybody around here like Indie Games?

They're not my preferred form of gaming, but they're really growing on me. Tonight I played an especially fun one.

Superbrothers Sword and Sorcery EP, I highly recommend you check it out. Right now it's free on the App Store, so you've got nothing to lose if you have an iOS device.

    I do.
    Play Bleed.
Bleed is one of my favorite games to play. The amount of aiming and reaction time you need is ridiculous, and every level implements new things and it is fun even after beating it multiple times.

And if you get it, buy the katana.

I've never been fond of indie games, all they seem to me is overpriced for their quality and overrated.

I mean- Journey? A game that is 2-3 hours long that cost like £12-15, with sub standard graphics, quality of gameplay and especially length but gets cost per hour as much as a AAA game?

I'm yet to see an indie game that's really worth the money. If I'm gonna be paying my money to buy things that cost more pounds than hours to buy then I'll be buying stuff like last of us and beyond two souls.

    HOW DARE YOU!
Sorry Serious, but Journey was worth the 15 bucks, it's an art game and in my opinion had great graphics and progression in gameplay, it also has many hidden meanings.
Also try Bleed if you are more into the action type of games, or maybe Signal Ops if you like a stealth game that looks like Death to Spies.
If you like good storytelling, buy Thomas Was Alone. laughing

Nothing wrong with them, I like when ideas that may not be green-lit by the top dogs are able to see the light of day by way of indie releases.

I have a large number across genres I'd recommend:
    Machinarium
    Dokuro,
Linger In Shadows (not really a game but interactive art and amazing)
    Flower
    The Cave
    Knytt Underground

    Many more probably

It most definitely is, at this point. Indie is pretty much the video game version of hipster. And as a person that lives near Portland Oregon, I see way too much of both.

Indie is just anything that big name devs aren't working on.
Let's not forget that Dark Souls and Demons Souls were considered indie at first. So was Minecraft, Terraria is still considered indie, need i make a list?

So pretty much indie is "Anything not EA, Activision, or Capcom". Since big triple AAA titles lack any innovation these days, anything indie can have nearly any amount of polish on it and still be accepted as just that: indie.

Next thing you know I'll be considered a hipster because I don't buy my food at Walmart or Winco, and instead support local businesses that I can see the face of, you know what I mean?

I see your point. At first, Indie for me was a game genre much like action or RPG, which basicly means a game with no real objective, and normally light and/or short

    There are a few gems

Notably, there's Overgrowth, and World of Goo (the latter almost always comes up when someone says "indie game")
This is a video of Overgrowth

If you like it, and have time, you should watch other videos of that playlist, awesome

There's also a bit more arcadey Intrusion 2, some sort of Metal Slug, with some of the best physics and any 2D game, ever.
    Also, epic bossfights

    And OMG giant wolves

I wasn't that big on indie games a while back, mainly due to their length and their pricetag. I started getting the Humble Indie Bundles, and that has made me enjoy indie games so much more, since you can basically pay whatever you want for, like, 5 DRM-free games! I personally recommend Thomas Was Alone, which was an amazing, quirky little game with an awesome British narrator (who doesn't like the British?), and FTL: Faster Than Light, if you're into them roguelikes and/or spaceship simulators.
