the poll is NOT COUNTING THE FIRST TIME YOU PLAYED.
Haven't gone the depths way since my first character, it was a nightmare that time. Everytime since, I always have the master key and I go through the valley of the drakes, run by the 3 slow goon, quickly slide down a bunch a ladders, jump on the wheel, bonfire.
But since I started a new character, I did gaping dragon, then used the blighttown key . Whatta mistake!  Lost. No summon signs. Does nobody go this way?

I go through Valley of the Drakes, go up Blighttown from the bottom to top, then I go to the Undead Burg to start my playthrough.

If you're asking which one I do when I beat the Depths, I go through the Valley since I'll have already picked up every item at the start of the run.

You need to add a depends on my sl vote. Cause it depends on MY sl lol. If I'm sl 20 or lower, I go from drakes. 25ish or higher, I go long way. Also depends on my PvE adventure. If I need Sens asap, I'll go from drakes. If you can add another response, I'll vote if it says both big grin

I went the short way once; cannot remember why now.

If I'm playing a new guy, I want the Eagle Shield. Although now that i think on it, since that was nerfed, the Balder Shield is probably always better.

I go the depths way because I enjoy both that and blighttown; have fun in both areas.

If I'm just making a PVP build I would just use the valley of the drakes, however if I'm playing the game purely for PVE I take the depths path. It's one of the more challenging areas of the game for me and I enjoy it quite a bit.

I go through the Valley of the Drakes 100% of the time unless I absolutely need something in the upper section.

I like the depths. I always play the depths, go through the gaping dragon, etc.

Then I leave that door ***' LOCKED. I did full Blighttown once already. Never. Again.

Depths is actually very easy, drop down behind butcher with ember, plunge rat, slide down, take shortcut back and open it, kill channeler, kill Gaping.  All of this is trivially accomplished with any random +5 weapon, although the gaping dragon might take some time with that because of his HP.  Gaping is very easy if you've killed the channeler though.  It's upper blighttown that's a pain, and only then because of the toxic blow darts.  The other guys are all stunlock or BS fodder.  Dogs can be blocked --> kicked if you have a slow weapon.

One common thing people forget is that you don't have to have the master key to skip the depths; all you need to have done is beaten the taurus demon if you don't have it.  Just run from parish (usually after gargoyles) --> darkroot basin --> valley of drakes.  Getting past the two drakes there isn't hard at all, especially if you know the "block while running to roll and not jump" trick.  This route also allows you to pick up the grass cress shield en route which is handy often.

Quelag is tough for beginners, but can be horrifically cheesed in a number of ways.  On my last run through the start of the game, I took the basin path, stunlocked mildred with a battle axe +0, then summered her and killed Quelag with a light crossbow +5 without taking a hit (Mildred still had 3/4 health...maybe slightly less)...then ran and cheesed ceaseless --> homeward bone back to the basin.  I didn't even open the new londo ruins shortcut lol, though since I have the key from the chest there I can do that any time I want.

It's also possible to kill ingward and open the valley of drakes through draining new londo, but you'll need to watch a guide or make a lot of practice runs to get past the ghosts with starting equipment + shoot him.

Yeah my first char ever I went the long way 'cause I didn't know the short cut. Now though I don't bother with the upper level, it's too much of a head ache, and I don't really even mess around in the swamp. I really just don't like Blight Town in general. It's not even like Valley in DeS, it's 100 times worse IMHO.

But, I always do the Depths for some reason, I guess I like to be in Human form and get invaded. ;)Plus I do like the Ring of the Evil Eye when I'm a lower level, and I like to summon people, as there's a lot of summon signs in the Depths even to these days.

I go get Power Within and the Shadow Set (I like the way the garb looks) and then homeward bone back to wherever I was before.

The problem isn't that the depth is that bad, it's that on the console (even on my pc) the framerate chugs like a boss when your fighting multiple enemy (which is the worse time for your frame rate to chugs like a boss btw)

However though, i still do it anyway because the depth and swamp is one of my favorite area in the game. (i still don't know why though)

Go to the Depths, get the ember, save Laurentis(probably spelled the name wrong), shortcut to rat and Gaping Dragon, do it without killing the Channeler because of how easy it is to just cheese the Gaping Dragon by running around and hitting it in the bum. And depending on what build I will make, I will get either the Iaito and/or power within. Other then that the whole area is just annoying. Toxin guys that are purely annoying, fire dogs that love to jump around you too much, weird guys that love to chase you and gang up on you, and fatties that love to push you off the ledge.

Even the long way through Blighttown is a fast journey. Maybe Blighttown has such a bad rap because it was confusing going through it the first couple of times trying to find your way.

I remember times going through there when I didn't know about (or could later find) the bonfire that is about a quarter way through it. Never mind the anxiety of trying to find your blood spoor after you got lost.
