    Leeroy and Rhea's true mission

Post by ResIsBestStat on Sun Jul 07, 2013 9:36 am

We all know about Paladin Leeroy right?
The first Undead Paladin who was sent on a mission to retrieve the Rite of Kindling.
Little did he know that the Church had a plan, sending Undead Clerics to the Catacombs, a place where it was highly possible to die on a seemingly impossible mission. Many would die, ridding the Church of Undead and I think that even if one returned with the Rite, the Church would've killed him anyways.
So let's talk about Leeroy, I think that Leeroy managed to defeat Pinwheel and obtain the Rite of Kindling, but instead of going back, he went forward towards the Tomb of Giants for no particular reason. We then see his spirit invading us after we pass through the golden fog gate, this suggests that Leeroy was going after Nito, but since he didn't have the Lordvessel, he hollowed out and haunted the place, but then why is his corpse found near Nito? I think that Leeroy didn't actually go in the Tomb of Giants and instead found the secret coffin that brings people to Nito, I also think he found some Eyes of Death around the area. After reaching Nito it's possible that Leeroy betrayed his faith and joined Nito, this is also possible because you find a Large Divine Ember in the Tomb of Giants and I think that Leeroy brought it there because it created the weapons that Nito feared the most. I also think that when you pass through the fog gate, Leeroy attempts to protect Nito, you however kill him and find his corpse where Nito was.
Now let's talk about Rhea, Rhea and her followers along with Petrus travel to the Catacombs too because they want the Rite of Kindling, I think they eventually find it and later go for the Tomb of Giants, but why do they go there? I think it's because the group also wanted to find the missing Large Divine Ember or it's possible that Patches or Petrus betrayed them much earlier and they were forced to take refuge inside the Tomb of Giants, but I'm not too sure.
    Any thoughts?

I like these ideas; they make a lot of sense. I'll have to think on it some more, but it's something I've not considered before. Nice one happy

About Leeroy, It makes it pretty clear that they "Produced" Their first undead, it can mean they made him undead so he could take on the catacombs, go into nito's room and get the rite of kindling. But Reah on the other-hand, she was from a much later time after Leeroy and was royal, so they did not shun her, they just sent her off on a "Holy Mission" So they could banish her without the locals questioning why.

Leeroy was the FIRST undead member of the way of white, a HUGE covenant. This suggests that the undead outbreak did not happen yet, it was just a small deal at first so the church would not immediately shun it, but rather send it to do tasks for their gods. The Rite of Kindling used to be Nito's, We know that. Pinwheel stole his power of necromancy and his rite of kindling to try and undo his mistake of merging himself with his family. We know he stole the power of Necromancy for two reasons, He can train necromancers to do his bidding and resurrect skeletons while Nito's Skelebros are not resurrected upon death. That is why Leeroy tried to go all the way down to Papa Nito and died trying as Nito is still obviously alive (Dead) when you encounter him in the boss fight.

If Leeroy made it to Nito, Why would Pinwheel be alive? It must mean that Pinwheel was not in his tomb area at the time, and probably roaming the tomb of the giants or sleeping in his mini-coffin near his Papa.

Reah was a joke to the church, and they forced her to go on a suicide mission. That is proven from her armour descriptions.

    Leeroy is questionable.

(If I had a mistake let me know, but im pretty positive most of this stuff is confirmed, but the rite of kindling with nito thing is educated guessing.)

Given all the powerful gear Leroy has on his person (and it was even more powerful all those years ago before its power faded) i think Leroy was expected to have a chance at success. Otherwise why would they let him go with some of the churches most powerful artifacts? It is true that the kindling was probably in the hands of Nito at the time and the fact that Leroy's corpse is found in Nito's room shows that he made it to Nito. What happened here is a mystery. Perhaps Nito killed him. Perhaps he was killed by pinwheel as he came for nito's power, or the occult cult in their rise to power. This is simerlar to the way in which Kirk, knight of thorns can be found dead in the chaos covenant room after he has been defeated three times and how he got there is completely unknown.

Reah became undead and so it is likely the church wanted to get rid of her (lloyd talisman shows undead are detested by the church) however due to her highborn background she had to look like her death was nothing to do with the church and thus they sent her after kindling with a few half armed clerics despite Leroys failure all those years ago. Reah slips off a coffin Petrus runs off and Vince and Nico are pushed in by patches where they are no match for the skeleton towers. Perhaps all along Petrus was sent by the church to ensure Reah would not be coming back.

The divine ember as property of the church was almost certainly brought to the tomb by a WoW member. But remember you find it on a petrified blacksmith so Leroy cannot have brought it alone. Perhaps the smith was part of a posse who came to the tomb led by Leroy or maybe in a separate group sent after kindling for whatever reason.

Anyways that's all i got for now.

All good theories, I still don't get why Nito would have the Rite of Kindling however since its only use is to kindle bonfires on a whole new level, why would Nito or Pinwheel have use for it since it can only kindle? Come to think of it however the more you kindle bonfires, the stronger becomes Gwyn so maybe Nito was preventing that or was ordered by Gwyn to keep the Rite safe.
Oh and I totally forgot about the blacksmith statue holding the ember, come to think of it, why are all the embers that upgrade weapons to faith weapons clutched by a blacksmith statue? And how were they petrified?

They are there to symbolize the embers, there is no real meaning behind it.

I think someone at From said it was like that too.

Wilkinson and Samster nailed it. Don't forget the Effigy Shield though. The Divine Ember was likely brought by someone from that camp.

Miyazaki stated in an interview that the smith statues are glorified chests and don't have lore significance.

Don't forget that Petrus himself was possibly a cleric, so his ties to the church are a possibility whether current or former.  Keep in mind, he can teach you miracles personally.  We never see him use them, but he is capable of teaching you then.  Generally people who cannot cast a magic cannot just teach you said magic.  Sorcerers teach you sorcery, clerics miracles, and pyromancers pyromancy.  It would lead me to believe Petrus at least can cast miracles even if he doesn't like to anymore.  It seems like he was a former cleric that grew detached with everything.

I agree with deepwraith. Considering Leroy invades us just a minute before Nito suggests he was trying to protect Nito. Once he goes back towards Nito to tell him he failed, Nito kills him and that's why we find his corpse in Nito's tomb.

i think pinwheel had is necromancy powers before stole the part of nito power and in one of his experiments he fused himself with is child and wife (he migth have created the rite of kindling to) and stole nito power to try to separate his body from the rest of his family and get back to normal

Let's throw in something I noticed.

Reah of Thorolund carries the Darkmoon Talisman as a medium to cast miracles. I have been unable to check damage, but the mesh is definitely Darkmoon Talisman, which is only obtainable from the Darkmoon Covenant aka adherent of Gwyndolin and Blades of the Darkmoon.

Granted her armor description points out that she was sort of a joke, but....

I'll check again, but it's probably Darkmoon. It lacks the gold film, as far as I can remember.
