Post by Leet Sun Jul 07, 2013 12:54 pm

So i got on today. Just like any other day. Played a couple people, everything was going fine.

Until, i get at least 10, different guys in a row, all the same build. Full giants armor besides MOTM, all two handing a Gold Tracer. Nothing more, nothing less. No shield, nothing. Just a Gold Tracer. What can you guess they did? r1 r1 r1 r1 r1 r1 r1 r1.

10 matches in a row. I just dodged around them waiting for an opening but i couldn't get one. I was using a Zwei. I got so frustrated i got off.

What is up with these guys. Where's the skill involved in 2 handing a GT and spamming r1. Days like these make me wanna take a break from Dark Souls.

I just don't understand it. They seriously just spammed r1 and never stopped. I'd get close to them and swing but they had all that poise it didn't matter. So while i'm swinging i'm getting hit until i eventually get stunlocked. I toggle escape just to be hit by some phantom damage and i bleed out.

I die. Reverse hollow, get my souls, dried finger, and guess what. Here's another guy with the same build. A vicious cycle commenced until i eventually had enough. *** that.

This, or the demon's spear. Really, just about any weapon that can do long ranged damage that you can fast roll with can counter it.

That's kind of the issue with the gold tracer, it's one of the most efficient curved swords in the game. So giving the sword to someone that has a high poise and high defense makes it a little harder to counter than most builds if you don't know what to do.

Yeah i didn't know what to do. I usually throw chaos fireballs at em from a distance. Or try to roll bs them but it's never that easy. I'll have to carry about a spear from now on.

    I was seriously heated.

I'm pretty good at parrying. But if you miss the first parry it usually goes down hill from there against those freakin things.

A clever GT spammer will do the spam unlocked in around 90° angles. That makes parrying and backstabs impossible. You either have to outrange, or outdamage them.
If there's more of them, then you're screwed and probably have to rely on mobs and environment to get rid of them.

As RANT said a spear will make short work of these guys,. If it's 1v1 at least. But I strongly recommend having a heavy critical weapon as a back up, becasue these guys are likely to heal.

Spells destory them. Force into bs works like a charm against these people, or simply cast Dark Bead in their face and they're toast.

There's always a way to deal with something, you just have to find that way.

I was hosting in the burg with a Zweih/Pyro build. No magic on me, no faith, and they were playing unlocked so parrying didn't work. And i also didn't have a spear on me. It's one thing to lose to one guy, but there were 9 more guys, different psn names, same builds after him.

And i tried to BS but they were just turning in my direction with me. I've beat them before, these guys were just relentless.

And i understand there's always a way to kill a specific build. This ain't my first rodeo.

In that case, I would either use a spear. I bet you can at least use the Demon's Spear.
Or, I would just prepare inventory to quickswap into full Havel's / Giant's, Wolf Ring and switched either to Gold Tracer as well, or use something like a Greataxe.

Also if you have Pyromancy, try to bs them. They will probably cancel it for no damage, so time it right and do a wake up Fire Tempest. That will turn their Poise against them and will do 1000+ damage (without CoD and BDCR) for sure.

It's just funny how so many people have the same build/tactic involved.

The most frustrating part being that you can't punish them with a parry because Curved Swords in general attack too quickly to be setup parried.

I'm surprised that you didn't mention DMB Falchions/Katanas, the just spam R1 and you get rekd.

I **** bricks when I mess up a parry against these builds.

If you have the dlc, unlocked Black Flame will break their poise before it breaks yours. I don't even use BF for damage, I only use it for this.

DMB buffed falchions/katana's are not nearly as bad as these guys. I have a DMB buff katana build so i know exactly how those kind of builds work. I know exactly what they're gonna do because i've done the same thing. I'm their puppet master. Easy.

Falchions builds aren't as bad either.

Why does everyone say you can't setup parry katanas? I do it all the time. Actually, that's what i used to practice set up parrys (had a buddy spam r1 just so i could get the feel)

With katanas also, you can just take the first hit and parry right after, instead of using the shield. Maybe it's just me i don't know.

And yeah all they do care about is winning. I don't need to play against someone like that. I like having fun against skilled players/builds. Spamming r1 just makes me wanna jump off the cliff in the burg. Which i did after the 9th GT spammer invaded. *** that.

Granted, i have a dual Gold Tracer builds, i do not spam whatsoever. It's an awesome weapon, but you don't need to spam. With fast roll, and dual wielding those things, you can tear people apart. People forget there's a strong attack with them also. And when you have 2 of them it's double the punishment. I love dancing around people and gradually tearing their flesh.

A 2-handed zwei breaks 75 poise.  The only build that can take 2 of those is full havels + wolf (and you can see that well ahead of time).  Giant's + mask is only 77 poise; you can literally stunlock them after 1st hit.  This means you're probably off on spacing or don't have enough poise to resist them stunning you first.  If you get the right timing, they are stunlocked or possibly toggle escape after 2 hits (during which they're not hitting you and have to get away lest you just kill them).

It sounds to me like you're trying to trade in a way your setup doesn't allow it.  If you have enough poise to stun them 1st, you want to trade.  If you don't, then you need to use something other than the zwei (preferably a good poke like spears or rapiers...elemental is ok if you don't have the stats) or to parry their GT spam.  Sometimes you get in situations where each of you can break the opponent's poise equally quickly; first hit wins in that case so be mindful of it.  In others you know you're a hit ahead and can trade or space aggressively.  Never trade while a hit behind; go for criticals or pokes.

I believe i had 63 poise or something like that on the build i was using. And i did stun him with the first hit but as soon as he came out of it i bled out and he just kept swinging, thus stunning me into oblivion until i eventually bled out again/died.

And my zweih swings a lot slower than his gold tracer obviously. He swings like what, 2 or 3 times before i can swing?

Plus, like i said before, i was dodging around him so by the time i got to swing, he was already hitting me over and over again before my first hit landed.

I wasn't trying to trade hits. i was waiting for an opening. Thought i had an opening, got tore up while swinging, hit him, ran out of juice from dodging around, bled out after he came out of it, got stunned, bled out again.

Like i said before, i've played this game before. I understand poise. Just this situation the guy won becuase of r1r1r1r1r1r1r1r1r1r1r1r1 + bleed + stun lock + more bleed.

Regardless, that's a ******** way to play. I'm gonna start carrying around a pike or spear of some sorts for those guys. Or switch to full havel's and swing away.

The main point was, that requires no skill whatsoever.

But i guess some people only care about winning, not getting better at the game or showcasing their skills.
