    I hate how protective America is. They even try to change things in stuff like cartoons and anime and all that just to make it more "American" so people can more easily relate.
    4kids is the best example...

    4Kids is known for overly editing anime to be more American-like. Anyway Don't blame our President, Blame the always fighting one-sided partisan parties that run our Congress who think they know what is best for everyone else.

    It won't happen. I'm sure he'll get sentenced to something like community service or some such thing, but he's not going to prison. The authorities just have to take things like that seriously if they're reported to them because of the seriousness of the issue. It's like jokingly talking about bombs on an a plane or talking about shooting the President. Even when it's clear that it wasn't a serious comment that all have to be investigated. I'd be willing to bet that 8 years is just the sentence he could get for threatening something like that, but that there's no intention of giving it to him unless they check him out and find that there's evidence of him actually considering it.

    ^I agree with Plastic, I understand regulation of the first amendment and right now how America doesn't know how that mental health plays a bigger role than bullying ever will but I think if they did any research into his background he'll just get a slap on the wrist for this.

    People need to stop overreacting to everything.

    This is beyond stupid.

    This is moronic, I wish our judicial system was intelligent.

    So many people arrested for stupid things...

    This kid got arrested for being sarcastic, I can't remember how long ago but there was an investigation because someone put up a "Pool's Closed" sign on the gate to a local swimming pool, and somebody thought it was racist because the guy in the picture is black, some guy got arrested for jumping over a cop(cop was not harmed at all, the guy jumped over them perfectly), etc.

    a month back a guy got kicked of an airline for saying the word bomb, the man had Tourette syndrome, and so couldn't help it once "bomb" became his tic word due to news channels everywhere talking about bombs. If I remember right he was at least compensated as it was the pilot that booted him off, but in the end he couldn't take a flight to where ever it was he was going...

    I can't watch the Video atm .
    What did the Kid even say ?

    If he jokingly said something about "blowing the School up" or something like that then i can understand the actions that followed.

    However, the Video title alone makes it obvious that it's just overblown hype because VIDEO GAMES .

     PREPARE TO BURN TERROR-

    Alright, well, I've never really been a fan of sarcastic comments, but this is just... eugh. That being said, some people are either very literal about jokes or very dumb, this woman that reported him sounds like both.

    That being said, I'm not anti-american, I personally love the country, but the way that the FBI acted is simply disgusting, they should have known that kids say dumb things to other kids.

    The FBI should have arrested the woman for 1. Finding his address. 2. Spying on a boy online.

    The police acted horribly, they KNEW that he wasn't going to commit the crime, but they intervened anyway? Sounds like some pro FBI agents right there. They can't and shouldn't be able to arrest him for not committing an ACTUAL crime.

    Not to say that the arrest and everything is justified but a couple thoughts:

    1. Many crimes such as this only need a shred of possibility to go forward.  The fact that he lives somewhat close to a school (per the report) and that one person felt genuinely threatened is more than the shred needed. So Kiva, I hope you don't live near an oil rig where there's a heavy turtle population as well.  Someone might take that one seriously ;)Kidding aside though, the actions would fit the criteria for a few possible crimes if someone takes them seriously.  Obviously, they did.

    2. Context is more important than what many people think.  I've read a few articles on the subject and they're all from the angle of "that poor kid, I can't believe what he's going through."  Again, I'm not saying those feelings aren't justified but it's far from an objective angle.  There are numerous possible contributing factors that are either not considered by what I've read or omitted.

    For example the school is a contributing factor and looks like it added to the panic of the woman who reported it. But what about:

    -What else did she see?  Everything I've seen just indicates "she saw the post and panicked."  But I personally can't imagine a scenario where a human being sees this floating piece of electronic text in complete isolation.  That doesn't make sense. What other conversation occurred around what the kid wrote?  Why was he called insane? I've seen hints as to why the other kid called him insane but was there a back and forth between parties?  Did the kid in question make other concerning comments and the school one was just the one getting the attention?  Was there any other dialogue to suggest a threat?  What impressions of this kid did other parties have?  Coming back to it, but why was he called insane?  Yes, the one comment is probably the impetus behind the charges that were filed but that doesn't mean he didn't say or do other things that added to the weight of the comment.

    -The woman who reported it was able to find out where the kid lived and place him geographically pretty close to a school.  Either she's a pro haxxor or the kid has a further body of evidence he doesn't mind leaving around.  I investigate things for my job.  I can tell you that I've been able to use one single piece of online info to do a pretty substantial check on people before.  Not always, and it's often easier with persons in their thirties for example compared to a teenager since they've had more time to leave a footprint but I can also say that younger people catch up really quick.  Online is life for many people.  That's neither good nor bad, it just means that there's info out there.  Anyway, if she was able to get an address or location specific enough to be worried about that nearby school, I'd be willing to bet a couple things;
     a. He's left a pretty big footprint online with lots of information about himself
     b. She saw a lot more about this kid than where he lived.  Has he made other comments that led to her concern?  Maybe.  Does his general online behavior lend credence to his "threat?" Again, maybe.

    So adding all of what I've said up:
    The stories I've read make it seem like; woman sees comment > mysteriously knows kid's address > sees school nearby > call police

    But in reality the flow chart is probably a lot more complicated;
    Woman sees comment > Woman probably sees context of comment, possibility of other concerns during conversation in question > Woman decides to dig around a little > Woman gets location of kid, probably a whole lot more > Woman discovers nearby school > Plays it safe and contacts authorities

    Then we get into the authorities' decision to file charges.

    That could be a whole other flow chart.  Are there school records that document concerns with this kid?  Are there psychological evals that documents concerns with this kid?  Has he been in trouble before?  Has he had police contact before? Is there a history of domestic violence in the home?  Did they find other evidence that suggests a possible real threat?  Does he have access to weapons?  Has me made other statements?  What happened when the police showed up to talk to him?  Was he remorseful?  Was he confrontational or antagonistic to police?  Etc. etc.

    So yes, it's possible that this is waaaaaaaaay overblown and completely unjustified.  But before we rally to this kid's side, I think it would behoove the reporters and writers covering this story to actually get a few answers before proclaiming this to be the injustice it's being portrayed as.

    I also apologize for using the word "kid" so much.  Remember I'm in my thirties so to me, he is still a "kid" just as I was still a kid at that age.  I would have argued otherwise at the time but now I realize how young I was then.  I also don't mean any disrespect by the term as kids still deserve the same chances to speak their mind and respect any adult does.  To me, being a kid just means you still have time to develop into the adult you'll turn into.

    EDITED to respond to Gryph's comments since they share similar sentiment to other posters here:
    -There's no evidence presented to think the woman did anything illegal. If he posted his location publicly she didn't do anything wrong by finding it. You might be astonished at some of the things I've discovered about people I'm looking into at work
    -Regarding the way police/FBI handled it, how are they supposed to know he's not actually going to commit the crime until it's investigated? This isn't to say it needed the reaction it did, I don't know that at all. There's so much evidence that's missing from the reports I've read I can't honestly say if it's an overreaction or not. I would put out there that there's no harm in investigating the comments and an arrest would be warranted with further reason to suspect he was serious. They might have more evidence than what we're seeing.

    The problem isn't the sarcastic threat, it's specifically that he threatened to shoot up a school.  Here in America, school shootings are treated incredibly seriously.  In terms of things the government might be spying on us for, I don't think it'd be incorrect to say that school shootings are treated with the same weight as potential bombing threats and terrorist acts.
