I found this video while poking around on Youtube, this guy is a fantastic player and I figured I'd post it since you can probably learn a lot about the claymore just from watching how he uses it.Dead angles and combos ahead....

Been using the claymore a lot recently, combo's are pretty frigging good and quick enough for good stunlocks however if you bump into someone who knows their toggle escape you're screwed.

I have found claymores very fun recently. I love the 1-handed R2 it has.

Rolling 2HR1 is where it's at, great for against casters, love rolling through pursuers and landing this, similar to 1HR1 with it's reach.

I can attest to the excellence of this weapon. I have two builds that utilize this weapon, and they are by far some of my favorite builds to use.

My battle maiden, as I use the thief mask while female so that I only have bottom mouth cover. Which looks bad-*** http://mmdks.com/2vw6

And a faith dump build that I use mainly for the hilarity of Sunlight Spear http://mmdks.com/2vwb

Claymore is a great weapon, but I wouldn't use it in a real fight.
IMO and IME, Claymore is best suited for randoms.

    I agree with Dibs.

Most of the skilled players know Claymore like back of their hand, because everybody uses it. It's a weapon we all stumble across on our playthrough and find it very easy to use, reliable and strong. Especially in earlier days, Clay was everywhere, because it could stunlock with it's 2H R1 to infinity (it got nerfed) and thanks to that, most people used only Clay, or MLGS, which had the same ability. It made long time players learn to fight Claymores so well, it's a suicide to use it against them, no matter how good you are with it.

But I fully agree that it is a great weapon.

This guy is great with that weapon mostly because he knows what he is doing with it and his spacing was great. i didnt seem him use the roll 2h r1 atk lots but he is fighting gankers....

Most decent 2 new players try use claymore but they get beat lots cause it does need good spacing 2 use and its best 2 use unlock, but most still use it lock on n just spam away

@Dibs and Sentiel: The same could be said of every katana and spear in the game, along with many other weapons. Saying "I won't use this weapon because my opponent knows how to fight it" is a defeatist attitude. Not only does a good player know the ins and outs of every commonly used weapon in the game, my greatest success has been when I focus on what I am doing to win rather than focusing on my opponent's actions and second guessing myself.

Not only that, but the Claymore has so many viable attacks in its moveset that it's unpredictable even to a good player.

Claymore, at least from what I've seen was used for a while. The moveset is easy to counter if you know what to do to.

I don't use it often personally, but I have to say it's a good weapon for PVP if you want to use it.

Every moveset is easy to counter, I can counter almost everything in the game:
    -Roll
    -Block
    -Outrange
    -Trade, using a stronger weapon
    -Parry

Dark Souls is not as technical as a fighting game, PvP is actually fairly simple when it comes down to it. It has a lot more to do with the player than mechanics already built into the game that have to be memorized and polished.

I've always seen Souls PvP as kind of a souped up version of Dive kick, or senior footsie. Essentially you're doing one thing, spacing. Whether it's staying out of their effective range or staying in your effective range, dodges and pokes. Spell Combos. It's all about manipulating space. You don't typically dodge the Great Scythe by rolling straight back, but rather you roll to either side of it's long vertical swing. Even it's Horizontal R2s have a good bit of extension on them and rolling through them (again to the side) or even past them (forward) is generally the better option. Where you would be quite displeased with the situation if you were to dodge the DGM to either side, as you're still in their "threatened" area. Dodging away from the UGS swings is normally the best bet.

It's all just spacing. The rest just kinda falls into place once you understand where and how a weapon creates threat.

Trying the guy in the video's build out right now,it works well but I never used to play aggressively with the Claymore before.I'm three for three as I post this, let's see how future invasions go.

Random question,I've seen pictures of blue characters from PS3,I may be wrong but I think that's from a mule glitch or something? Does that work on XBox because I just saw a blue guy, really dark blue.I'm not sure if he's an editor kid or that whole thing has transferred over.

You can make your characters blue. Any color for that matter. I've even seen people with hair that looked like it was glowing. Most people don't go through the trouble but yeah there's like 3 or 4 characters on the mule that are blue. And a red one. And a grayish one i think too.

I think everyone loves the Claymore, and when you think about it, a person would be crazy not to love it. It really is such a flexible weapon.

Glowing hair is hacked, trust me.There is no way to make your hair glow legit.I know you can be slightly blue in the character creation but this guy was much too dark to be legit. He didn't seem to have anything else changed but I guess it was a hack.

While I'm not questioning his skill level, this video wasn't showing anything an even decent player with a Claymore didn't already know silly

I think if I were to compare Souls PvP to a fighting game, it'd be Super Turbans. Because Souls PvP and SF2 basically come down to the same two things: fundamentals and BS.

I've never thought it was that great. It's versatile and breaks poise well, sure, but it's just not as appealing to me as it seems to be to everyone else. I'm different silly

I like it for the balance it has.It is in the middle of the weapon tiers.I like it more after watching the video,it shows how to be effective while on the offensive,I used to be defensive with it which works but not nearly as well.Dead angles and combos might be a mean way to fight but it really puts pressure on the gankers,I need to get better at dead angles but it's terrifying when you use it well.

Mayhem did a vid on hacks, glowing hair was one of them. It's more of a skin change really and doesn't effect much, it's bit like go faster stripes on a chav boyracer car.
