Doubtful.  The only fake difficulty in PvE comes from Bed of Chaos, where such complaints were 100% valid.  Lock-on camera angle whirling is the only other thing I can even think of (and it's rare, very rare).  In online MP lag can be a serious issue and the coding for it in DS was obviously pretty bad.

A tutorial level is a good thing to acclimate new players.  I didn't see anything wrong either either tutorial from the previous two games (DeS being my first of modern games like this).  Experienced players just run past everything anyway lol.

Tutorial Level should be in NG+7.
