Gravelord Sword & Lifehunt Scythe Empty Gravelord Sword & Lifehunt Scythe

    Post by Raikan007 Tue Jun 18, 2013 8:02 am

I got this fairly early on doing a quick run into the catacombs to kill Pinwheel and get the actual sword..

I upgraded it to +2 at the moment (I have many other weapons like a +2 claymore lightning, +5 lifehunt scythe (cannot get the reason to have this damn weapon lol, will explain later in the thread) +5 Black Knight sword (my go to weapon) +9 Magic Murukamo, Quelaags furysword and many other nice weapons that deal 350 to around 486 damage (highest being +5 Fire Zweihander but not using it at the moment as it takes me past 50% equip burden with my current setup)

Now regarding the Gravelord sword, it says it deals what 300 poison damage, what does this have an actual effect on as I never seem to see any poison buildup on enemies/bosses that I have used it on.. does it actually deal poison damage and is it a good weapon to use, also in which case i.e: which bosses etc?

I love the moveset with the Gravelord sword, probably more so than any other weapon in the game...

Lifehunt Scythe +5 so lots of titanate and lots of souls (I play offline) to get it to this point...

I equip my +7 Bloodshield and armour that has very good bleed resist and good defence (usually have bleed resist of around 289 or so..) I do not have the Bloodbite ring though

I tested it on the two serpants in the Dukes archives after turning off the stupid music player and after 3 hits on my targets I had huge blood loss and they hit me once for me to die! I think I dealt nothing more than around 146 damage per shot even though it should be 384 (or whatever the number is fully upgraded) I assumed that these would be a good idea to use them on as they are organic and could bleed quite easily.. but to no avail

Would the Bloodbite ring sort this out or am I wasting my time trying to use it?

I know its good for Demon Firesage and the Asylum Demon (revisited) but other than that??

here is what my character looks like at present: any thoughts and or feedback most welcome!

Generally you will want to use bleed for PvP, or high NG+'s against non-boss enemies with a lot of health.  Bosses aren't effected by toxin either, that is what the gravelord sword does, toxin opponents.  Same idea with NG+, you'll kill most enemies with it before getting the toxin off otherwise. It is used mainly for PvP, but the Gravelord sword at +5 hits decently well with low stats, so it's still a nice enough choice.

Before going into feedback on your build, are you planning to cap at any level for Co-Op or PvP, or is sky the limit for you level wise?

thanks man, no PvP at the moment, still getting ADSL installed and will probably just try using this current build anyway, just for fun happy

I know once you reach 40 on most stats it starts to have a diminishing return effect, so wanting endurance high to equip armour/shields etc as I am a pretty decent PvE player so not worried about dying as I don't do it that often without like falling off in crystal caves and other things of that nature...

I am 65/35 melee/pyro build as I like to fight, parry and riposte opponents etc and hit them with fire...

I want to keep my mid roll for now (I can easily do quick roll when I need to in certain area's etc) so not fussed about that..

So for now there is no actual level cap as I will most definitely play through twice at least because I have NEVER played the DLC which I am going to go to after Crystal Caves which I am really excited about :)going in blind as I did when I first started playing DS as well! so going to be (hopefully) awesome!

Well, Vit and End you generally would want to get to 40 then.

You don't get anymore stamina with >40 End but you do get more equip burden so you can wear more.  Health will still continue to go up past 40 though.

If you are going Dex and Str, you'll probably want a weapon that scales well with both.  Like the Claymore, most straight swords also scale well.  The Murakumo is also a great option, it has a very similar moveset to the Gravelord Sword too.

My second Playthrough was actually almost exclusively with the Lifehunt and Bloodshield.  The key to either scythe is a defensive nature, particularly with the Lifehunt where you can bleed yourself out.  The bloodbite will make it a lot easier for sure but I didn't always have it on.

You're right that Asylum, Firesage and Stray Demon all bleed out insanely easy.  You can win those fights ludicrously fast with the Lifehunt.  It's not even fair it's so bad honestly.  Most mobs will die before they bleed but you nailed it, it should be a heavy hitter without the bleed.  Not sure why it hasn't been for you.  If you're looking for souvenirs of reprisal, the harpies in the Painted World also offer a easy bleed target.  Most times I can kill them before they fully land.  There's only a handful of enemies I'd say bleed really easily so the benefit you're really looking for is the wide arc to attack multiple enemies (though that can become an issue with the Lifehunt). It's a weapon that has to fit you though. It's hard to force that one.

so I defeated Seath on my first try last night, was super easy to be honest! then farmed the clams for about an hour and got pretty much 2.5 twinkling titanates per run and 3 purging stones just using the Gold serpant ring and 0 humanity happy

I upgraded my recently bought Giants armour to +5 and the legs to +5 for future when I get the required equip load.. and a few other weapons and tested a few other armours to see how they went up! also the crest shield to +5 for my Four Kings fight coming up soon which I think would be the best chance at blocking their magic attacks and with stability of around 65 (I think, is not bad)

I bought the bloodbite and poison rings and equipped it with my bloodshield and Lifehunt, went to asylum and killed the demon on my 2nd attempt, was doing great damage and the bleed effect was good, never got above halfway bleeding myself..

I might consider giving it a rest after that until Firesage demon as I am about to head into the new DLC area's

any small tips before I go as I have never played (and seen anything of what it looks like on purpose as I like to play blind)

    thanks
