How do you keep up with A lot of Humanity?

Post by SeriousDogg on Sat Jun 15, 2013 5:06 pm

I'm playing with the Abyss Greatsword now, and it's scales with Humanity, how do u keep with so many humanity without die?

for those who play with Chaos Weapons or Weapons that scales with Humanity,

u just play very safe or u just farm tons of humanity ?

I think most just farm humanity. Which you can do just by collecting humanity from the rats in the depths, however there is a new way to farm soft humanity. It's right here. The only difference with soft humanity is that you lose it when you die unlike the humanity you pick up.

Also if you're using the humanity to increase the damage of your weapon, just go up to ten. After using ten humanity the extra damage to the weapon stops.

I know but how can I keep with 10 Humanity when there is so many deaths in this game (O&S Tomb of the Giants, Duke's Archives and more)

For many people who use it, it depends on what you're using it for.

If you're using it for PvP, as long as your Win:Loss ratio is even you can upkeep it.

If you're using it for PvE, the best way is to farm Humanity. As Grin said, there's a glitch that causes you to obtain a Humanity on the first Crystal Hollow killed. Another great way to farm Humanity is in the DLC, the Humanity Sprites drop them like candy. If you don't have access to the DLC, the Depths can be used or you can farm the baby skeletons in the Tomb of the Giants.

Having a lot of Humanity is the easiest way to upkeep it, but your Humanity will grow naturally for various reasons, so as long as you don't die constantly it's pretty easy to keep at 11+.

The best way is to be more careful with what you are doing if you want to maintain your humanity.

Depending on where you want to invade or duel I would suggest developing a personal route that you can take that you know you have the least likely chance of dying on.

For PVE, I would suggest farming humanity from one of the places that me or Dibs has mentioned already. Then when you reach whatever area is giving you the most trouble use 10 humanity and then confront the enemy/boss giving you a hard time.

best way is finish your build and make sure you don't do any more pve than you need to, after that get 99 humanity and you should be good.

I use Rings of Sacrafice(?) to get through the game. Usually I lose just 1 each time to Sens' and TotG. I always use low level characters now, so I get Sif and the 4 Kings out of the way as fast as I can. After that I don't really care anymore. Then I use the characters for invasions, so no risk of losing the souls and humanity:razz:

By the way, the abyss greatsword stops scaling at 11 humanity rather than the 10 for Chaos Weapons.

Humanity Scaling is dealt with by keeping the minimum (11), keeping a bucket-load of extras (20+ Humanity), keeping at least 3 Rings of Sacrifices on you, keep Homewards on your item slots for emergencies and making sure not to screw too badly.

It's a hassle, but it works. Usually, you never play with Humanity Scaling unless you know what you're doing, since it can be easy to lose them.

I only use Humanity scaling weapons in PvP. I don't lose humanity in PvP- problem solved. It's also vry easy to farm the skeleton babies outside nito for humanity, it doesn't take long.

Only way you lose humanity in PvP is as host.  Otherwise, you can pick up your stain if you die as a wraith and as FH you can invade as a hollow lol.

In PvE you have to be careful, but I wouldn't recommend specifically relying on humanity scaling in PvE.  What you CAN do, to EZmode run PvE without cheats:

    1.  Free Lautrec, go human, summon him AND Solaire to gargoyle fight (not very hard fight, can win it like nothing even with a +3 shortbow).
    2.  Using master key, run into blighttown, kill Mildred, and summon her for the Quelag fight.  Once again, if you have just a +5 shortbow you can let mildred distract Quelag and then stunlock her with aimed arrow spam.
    3.  Just run past everything in Sen's (even use a lloyds to get lightning spear).  It takes some practice to do this, but it's amazing how quickly you can get through sen's if you just blow by everything.  Vs some of the lizards a block --> run by makes it easier.  Summon tarkus and just arrow spam or do whatever you want vs iron golem.  Tarkus does most of the heavy lifting, so you can poke it in the leg with your lightning spear or shoot at it from far away.

    Finally you have to try:

    4.  Getting to O&S is mostly a matter of getting past the anor londo archers.  Annoying, but not really level dependent.  Pick up a fog ring or hidden body to make that ez mode, or look up a youtube guide on it.  Pick up the crystal halberd.
    5.  In O&S fight, kill Ornstein first (crystal halberd makes this pretty fast and most builds can use it if you 2h) and pillar block Smough, shooting him with a bow again.  Obviously summon solaire in this fight to distract them while you kill ornstein.  Ornstein is technically better to kill 2nd, but his stab attacks through the pillars are really obnoxious whereas with smough you can super-cheese him as he charges into the pillar, shooting him or just running around for a quick hit then running back.

All of the above can be done with virtually no farming or soul investment (just a couple shards into a +5 shortbow).  You can dump the resulting souls yielded into whatever you want as good dps for the rest of the game.  For example, just from boss kills alone you'd have enough souls to markedly power up a pyro glove, which would then be good enough to beat all remaining areas except centipede demon.  You could instead level a twinking titanite weapon to +5 and stat up to use it.  If you're doing an int build you can easily downgrade the lightning spear then change it into moonlight butterfly horn.  Whatever you need - the only true bottleneck is dps for 4kings.

So where does humanity scaling factor?  Wherever you need it.  After killing O&S would be the best time if you wanted to PvE with such a scaling weapon...and at that point, it's worth picking up some rings of sacrifice.  If you're already in NG+ you have the souls for that...and likely even if you aren't since you can find several also.  Yes, it eats a ring slot, but unless you're playing with FAP and need the 2nd slot you should be able to keep it on for important fights.  4kings are dangerous with FAP since you'd need covenant ring on then and wouldn't have a slot.  W/O wearing RoFAP, you can just walk around with ring of sacrifice constantly in PvE and not lose anything ever, except some souls should you need to buy more rings.

    Do phantom co-op.

You get a humanity for killing the boss, and you will also get random soft humanity from killing enemies within the host's board because the boss isn't dead yet.

At the same time you'll get souls for purchasing things you can't farm ie arrows, etc.

Lol am I playing a different game from everyone else or something?  Even as a darkwraith whenever I've died I could simply walk to where I died, pick up the stain, and lose nothing (not even 1 humanity that the host got for killing me).

Granted, you could lose all of the stuff in the stain if you die en route to it, but in most areas you don't have to put yourself at risk or move very far from the bonfire to pull off an invasion.  I struggle to think of an area where invasions typically happen where the risk of losing your stain to local enemies after dying in an invasion isn't minimal at worst.  If you invade in say forest at stairs, moon pit, burg, or the kiln you'd have literally 0 risk as you don't have to encounter anything at all to invade those areas.  Same thing for sen's if trolling tickles someone's fancy...or anor londo/new londo for that matter.  Really most areas if you plan would be either 0 risk or pathetically close enough.

I only keep up 11 Humanity on my body. The rest goes to Our Fair Lady. She needs them more than anything. =(

If I do happen to lose a lot before I can be a good servant of Chaos, I will often just farm it in the Abyss. I can get about 10-15 per run usually. That is counting twin humanities added. Since I don't do special "uses" for them.

I rarely bother with the chaos servant skip anymore.  I see speed runners also often don't, since they can beat the bosses faster than they can use then donate 30 humanity lol.  I heard you can even open the shortcut from the other direction, but I can't see much use for that other than farming demon titanite if you use the closest non-shortcut bonfire to access BoC.  You can definitely save solaire by not triggering his diaolog in anor londo w/o using the shortcut too.

IMO only reason to level up in chaos servants is to role play or pick up the chaos pyros...or you just don't want to deal with the bosses (IE late NG++ type runs where you're almost a pure pyro might want to skip centipede, as aside from quelag he's the only fire-immune boss and quelag is easily cheesed with a bow if one wants, making pure pyro + short bow cheese viable through all NG+ iterations if you want to go that route).

Speedrunners never do that anymore. You could beat Demon Firesage and Demon Centipede three times (hell probably more) in the time it takes to pop 30 humanities and give 'em to the covenant.

Honestly, every playthrough I've had some very awesome dude dropped 99 humanity for me for nothing. its easy to keep on top of humanity when you have 99. Having to farm has never been an issue for me.
