to soon for preorder bonus details? (chess set rumor??)

i know, its still a ways off. and i've looked. and found nothing credible. i remember reading rumors of a chess set to come with preorder (most likely special edition, extra cost not just $60) but i'd love to pay for something like that.

notice. i do NOT want in game content for preorder. no early access. none of that. i want a chess set, or even another artbook, tin case type offer would be cool. or maybe a mini bust of a character. physical something.

anyone heard anything? or you gurus of gaming industries know a general rule of thumb for WHEN we might maybe be able to expect to hear anything? 

i missedr out on the amazing demons souls special editions, didnt have a ps3 even back then. i was happy with the dark souls preorder (even though they pulled out some of the offer last minute) im hoping this time around they really go all out. i'd pay for a special collectors editon.

I wouldn't mind an artbook if you pre-ordered the game. I'm sure quite a few people that love lore will pre-order it for the artbook alone.

I really don't see how a chess set could tie in to Dark Souls 2 though, that's just confusing. 

I won't pre-order myself though, especially if there is in-game content added to the pre-order.

The custom sculptor, who did the busts/minis for the giveaway for the first game I think was working on a chess set.  I'm not sure what for though but recall it being Souls related

exactly. nordstrom(sp) something to that affect was the guys name. he does amazing work. makes statues still, quite a few. some are a bit expensive, $100-200. some are crazy expensive, 2k mark. no kidding. but amazing work.

he has made a few chess peices already if i recall. i would buy it from him, preorder or not. if a souls chess set comes into existance it will be purchased.

but i'd much rather it be a collectors edition/preorder bonus. (although the guy making these sculptures seems to generaly remake anything if your willing to pay for it. a few i think he makes as limited edition, but i dont have details.)

fingers crossed, at least for an artbook/tin case again. at the very least. or a estus flask water bottle would be kicka$$. maybe a humanity necklace, althought thats more 1 related...unsure of 2. but still, a million easy things they could turn into trinkets easy enough im sure.

A chess set sounds awesome! I love chess but it seems unlikely, unless the game of chess appears in DkS2 somewhere. Isn't it suggested that Chester is from some version of our world? Other things from our world could conceivably appear. 

I usually preorder the games I want, and have nothing against in-game content. Physical merchandise is great though. An art book is almost a must for Souls.

ive only preordered 1 game, DkS1, and got special ed. dont recall exactly, but how does special edition factor in to a preorder? Ive already made DkS 2 prepurchase.. will any preorders placed now default to spec ed when/if they announce, or do i have to...re-preorder?

This, I've been meaning to get a chess set again, and a DS chess set would be epic.

As epic as a chess set would be, it would cost a Fortune for them to manufacture all the different peices in vast quantities. I'd rather pay this guy for a one of a kind set, which would be very valuable and coveted.

An art book would be more feasible. Hopefully if they go that route again they will abandon the hardback so they can make it a little bigger/page-wise with the extra space

a chess set wouldnt be so far fetched, if the pieces were made of plastic molds, not hand carved. and it would most likely be a collectors edition, which would tack on an extra...40? 50? or $60? maybe more...but hopefully not much more. they could even been wood and be easy to mass produce. just a matter of price.

but sadly, i dont see it happening. for a general public concept anyway. chess isnt exactly the most popular activity among young people. and i fear thats the big issue.

but i'll be fine with an artbook. or like i said, a random trinket sized item from the game. make a necklace out of something in game. PLENTY of options for that. who wouldnt want an official Pendant? wouldnt thatbe the ultimate troll, 

the pendant DOES/DID have a purpose. to build hype, and get us to preorder a collectors edition that COMES with a physical reproduction pendant!!

Yea you make a good point, with the increased price for spec Ed. Yea not the most popular game in the states, but it sure is in Russia and some European countries, perhaps would make a good reagional specific? Demographically tho, ppl who play videogames play videogames, not chess, generally speaking, unless its a chess videogame lol

Wish I knew...but I don't. You'll have to check the website, check a fine print section they probably emailed you with your proof of purchase info. Might have to go through what some people fear most....customer service phone line....if your never seen again, I hope they at least have good 'on hold' music playing for you good luck


i would think it might auto upgrade...unless the prePR order is specific to a certain storefront. Like amazon/GameStop etc. Then, you'd be SOL.

Hmm assuming it wasn't much more than $100 I'd probably be willing to buy a special edition pre-order w/ chess set.
