Revisited Skyrim...oh dear. Empty Revisited Skyrim...oh dear.

Post by IIdoneus Wed Jun 12, 2013 11:04 pm

So I decided to play Skyrim again because Dark Souls is getting a tad stale. I honestly forgot how completely bizarre things were in Skyrim.

I was out walking when, all of the sudden I see some hunters run across the path in front of me. Ok, thats normal, they must have seen a deer or a moose. Well, then I heard the screams of an old woman. I ran after the hunters and found that they were shooting at an elderly female farmer. I then followed their chase. They ran the old woman into a creek, and she swam a across...right into a troll cave. The old farmer then took out her dagger and started striking the troll, only to be punched and sent flying. The hunters then turned their attention to the troll, who, thanks to the brilliant Skyrim AI, just stood there and refused to cross the creek. A stray arrow hit a wandering ministrel, who used a shock spell to kill both hunters and the troll. As if this was not enough, a traveling Kajit merchant band was hit by something earlier, and so the ministrel and the merchant, both flagged as essential characters, began an endless battle, which rages to this very moment on my save file.

My brain was so exhaustsd from this WTF ordeal, I went back to playing Dark Souls.

Skyrim is pretty damn fun. But has some pretty freaked out things in it.
I'm currently on break from Skyrim. I played it too much.

Or normal mammoths that just randomly incur fall damage while standing still. Or mammoths that fall through the ground. Just today, I saw a mammoth walking upside down. This game really is just too much.

I hear that makin children NPCs killable, turning on high impact fall damage for items, and then making it rain Daedra Hearts in an orphanage, is quite entertaining.

That kind of shocks me. PS3 is the worst. I have it for PS3 and I have these issue, yet my friend on Xbox has very few.

Ildoneus, I've had very minor framerate issues once or twice since I got a new PS3 (old one, a phatboy  never had a problem) and a game freeze once or twice as well.  That's it.  I just played inFamous and had far more wacky glitches, like trying to restrain people when I'm near an obstacle it would push me away and I would have like a 30 foot long leg.

As I've explained, there are of thousands of objects to interact with and ai scripts in skyrim, a great many of which are all running at once. Its only natural that there are weird things that happen.

Seriously, do we really need yet another "Skyrim? LOL!" thread? If you don't like it don't play it, simple.

This is one of my few lamentations about Dark Souls: its difficulty is fun, but causes a lot of elitism among people, even when said people suck at the game (not that i'm saying you suck, I mean hypothetically).

I really like Skyrim. I haven't played it in ages (partly due to me not having my proper computer here). I'm getting a bit bored of DkS right now, i'll probably have a roam around Skyrim over summer (though I wonder how long I can go without cheating ).

honestly I'd prefer something like skyrim if it just didn't take itself seriously at all, with all the random stuff that happens it more of a "visit another world" experience than an "overcome challenges" thus making the presented world more random and humorous would be a plus in my eyes.

Its not about overcoming challenges, its about being an epic hero slaughtering all who oppose you.

For the record, there is random and humerous stuff, but its a reward for people who take the time to find it. Its in unmarked and/or random quests, notes, diarys, books.

Never expressly said I did not like it. More along the lines of what others have said, it takes itself too seriously. It is more for lulz and a good mind numbing laugh than any deep comprehension of philosphy or mechanics like DkS.
