    Dark Souls Tactics/Rage

Post by LagStab on Fri Jun 07, 2013 10:09 am

I see this often, and not calling anyone out but they say things like:
    Dark Magic ruined PvP!
    Backstabbing isn't honorary!
    I hate R1 Spammers!

then, when they lose they proceed to send rage/hate mail.

Those are TACTICS, ingame tactics that are able to be used by the player. If you are going to frown upon it don't play PVP! Sending hate mail is acting like a child, although many Dark Soul players are young, it is pathetic. Anger over a video game? Even if I lose to a gank, I say "gg" or "Good Game", because I chose to invade, I chose to do pvp. I won't get mad at it, or I can chose to quit. Yes, I dislike losing, but acting like a child raging is sad. I was actually in Private chat with a YT commentator, and I won't name him, he lost and raged calling the other guy a "Fa**ot", and mad that he lost. Although, he SUMMONED the invader. I was kind of quiet, but thinking, why would you get mad over a game.
The spamming of WoTG is abused, we all know. But, that is in game and can be solved by a quick backstab. If this happens to you, don't rage invade/host in a new spot! It's in-game, and it is part of PvP, deal with it or quit complaining. There are no rules, just made up rules by a couple players. Not everyone has to follow them, if you want a duel, set one up, don't expect one during random invasions.

Yes, this was inspired by Martyrsbrigade.

I agree with you 100% mate. too often I hear complaining about the lack of honour in invading, or the supposed overuse of various weapons and magic. Whether you like it or not, that's just part of the game. The most commonly used tactics are those which are most effective. If you don't like it, then move on. Dark Souls is clearly not the game for you.

Invaded a guy with my SL 10 invader today, which I use to invade low level players in the Burg/Parish. (Note that I invade with unupgraded gear because I like fair PVP).

I invaded a guy I saw at the top list of the Chaos Cov. roster. Remembering his name, I was careful. Experience tells me this might be a modder or hacker. Now, when I invaded, the drake and hollows were gone. Then I saw '388' appear at the Sunlight Altar. I immediately start changing my gear to more upgraded armor and a +4 chaos Bandit Knife.

I can see the guy running at me, flipping around, wearing a mixture of Ornstein set and Giant's. The guy was holding a Washing Pole (but I don't remember the shield).

Now, since I figured this guy was at least a lot of levels above me (and rushing), I simply stepped to the side and backstabbed him. Did a little less than 600 dmg. Once he gets up, I kick him, he staggers and I just wanted to hit him again real quick (since my main idea was building up bleed). To my surprise, I backstab him again. The guy has half his health left. Once he gets up, I swing twice and miss. My stamina is gone and he kills me in two swings. Than he used 'Look Skyward'.

When I ask him why he used that, he was complaining about the chain BS. Saying I was a scub, need to get good, can't roll with the big boys, etc. I was telling him I was only SL 10 and I couldn't just start slicing his health away 80 dmg a time. The guy had a lot of poise from his gear, and I did not (--> pyromancer gear). The guy kept complaining about the BS, but I don't even remember according to a duel. We never bowed. He called me all sorts of names for stating that backstabbing would've probably been my best shot.

I hate these elitist ***holes so much. Also statinghe defeated 'far worse builds with far less'. Sorry for the long read, hope it makes some kind of sense. I just don't get these guys. Not the first one I encountered. Can someone tell me if I'm wrong about this? I'd like to hear arguements if I am. Shrug

The proper response to such players is to troll them, not use logic. Their minds have already proven incapable of logic so going that route is a failed enterprise before you even begin it.

Trolling, however, those guys understand. Sometimes you have to be creative, others nonsensical, and on occasion just bust out the most canned/overused lines.

Alternatively, you can just ignore the gestures and not message them at all. Either the guy knows exactly what he's doing, or he's too stupid to realize it. Either way, conversations in such a case aren't going to be fruitful, so IMO you either troll them if you feel like it or just don't bother at all.

Although if you invade him subsequently, you would definitely be best served slapping on the hornet and chainstabbing him as much as possible and then taunting him .

    Edit:

Unless one agrees to an honorable duel ahead of time, honor in Dark Souls is silly. The game *actively encourages* dishonorable behavior in both PvP and PvE. Within role-playing, you're an invader looking to kill someone at any cost or someone trying to survive that onslaught.

If i invade obvious ganker (killed environment to the last living creature in the area, waiting with the full squad at the spawn point to execute the invader) i block them in PSN, don't waste your time with tryhard scumbs.

If the people would understand, that one can have fun with DS without winning at all cost, there would be much less of that cheap tryhards ganking $%&*'% i don't want to meet in a game - go and play CoD that is your game

Other than hacking, etc.. you should allow your opponent to use the mechanics provided by FROM. It's immature to have some personal vendetta against people who use whatever mechanics are available. It's selfish and unreasonable to expect every random to abide by your set of rules. (unless these rules have been agreed upon by both parties)

Again, fun is a subjective term. You can make a fun build and still play to win.

    Just my 2 cents.

it's not a vendetta, i just ignore (block) them and move on, but not to another game, only to another host.

The problem starts when u only have fun, if u win. then u start to complain about the tactic/weapon/armor the other player used to kill you -> u get upset -> u write hatemail even though u might have used a chainstabbing chaos zwei giantmom and lost against a ninjaflipping giantdad dark magic spammer.
Both play to win at all cost and might be upset about the tactic of the opponent.

Well - and my ganker rant...it's like playing demons souls and just poison cloud everything with the thiefs ring equipped- what's the point/fun in that. 100% sure to win without any risk - if they have fun with that i simply don't want to meet them ever again ingame. For me thats like cheating infinte health. And it's not a risk for the invader that could make this exciting for the invader, it's just wasting time.

Playing to win IS fun for most. That is their version of fun, if you do not like it, don't act like a child calling them a try hard. They use their tactics and have fun doing it that way. Just block them, no reason for silly insults like I just read above. If you want fun, set up duels with friends, or stop invading. And to those who send hate mail over a loss, that is sad. It is a VIDEO GAME, and you need not to act like a child with temper issues that cannot turn a game off if they lose, or get out of the kitchen if they cannot take the heat. Sending hate mail is not going to solve anything.

Exactly, and players are allowed to utilize any IN-GAME tactic at their disposal. Even if I do dislike fighting black magic spammers, or gankers, it is MY CHOICE to invade/host, and play Dark Souls online, there is no reason to complain, just say GG, put them as a "player to avoid", and keep going.

yeah - u are right, sorry for my temper. would edit it, but then no one would understand the answers. So i leave it with a sorry.
Gankers i love you (if i manage to kill your host - harharhar)

only got owned really hard some time ago from several ganking squads in dark AL, that ruined me the fun of invading for some time, but i'll be back

No problem man, people need to realize that it is only a game, and we are lucky it even has PvP, so little games have it.

I'm a bit angry at martyrs for making tickstabbing popular in the community, seems like everyone and their mother does it now and it's one of the most legitimately broken things in the entire game. Martyrs has been actively encouraging disrespect for a dueling community that for the most part minds its own business and does not impose its rules on others, and a number of copycat trolls have popped up in popular dueling ares, going out of their way to interrupt and ruin the experience of people who are trying to enjoy the game their own way.

On topic, if you think DkS is balanced as it is, you simply haven't been playing long enough. It's clear that the game was not intended to be balanced for competitive PvP, and the "dueling community" and "honor" rules have been set up by fairly general consensus for the people that do play by them as a way to make the game, in their opinions, more balanced.

Also childish to have fun while playing a game then.

I'm well within my rights to get angry that people use tactics that are little more than exploits, and I see no reason to treat gankers, tickstabbers, and kick-chainstabbers the same way I do everyone else. Sure, everyone can play the way they like to have fun, but some people have a ****, twisted sense of fun and I will call them out on it. A crackhead or kleptomanic has his own sense of fun, and I will judge them for it. Being an ******* might be subjective, but I also know an ******* when I see one and I refuse to tolerate it.

Childish to have fun? That's a given. Of course it's childish to have fun, but Fun can be had without anger. in fact if you are getting angry, you are not really having fun. .... And to say a crackhead is having fun? Addiction, I'm fairly certain is not categorized as fun.
You are correct to say, you have a "right" to get angry, but you may want to take a look as why such a trivial thing as a game, triggers anger. And if a game angers you, people "in person" must really rub yer butt the wrong way. Just sayin.

Get a grip, fella, it's only a game. Look Skyward
