Dystopia and Rules Empty Dystopia and Rules

Post by SirArchmage Thu Jun 06, 2013 4:27 am

In my school we had to write poems in only twenty minutes. Thought I'd share with the forum. The first one is where the theme is that I am supposed to "suppose" something weird, or surreal that I want to happen. And per usual I changed off the topic a bit, but still the basis. The second is suppose to be a list of things I believe in, or statements about myself. I made a list of rules for myself. Enjoy.

    Dystopia.

    Suppose, that everything was right,
That the world lived without fault.
With everything in black and white
And plainly clear, no challenges, or
    Hardships, tradgedies or evil.
A world of an everlasting sun
    And porcelain smiles

    Many wish for this, and
if asked most all would say the same.
They want an end to the starvation.
The wars and violence. An end to
    Evil and it’s wicked shadows,
So they may bathe in the light of their
florescent sun and keep on their
    plaster smiles.

Am I vile? Am I wicked?
To wish for the hardship and
Challenge and merit, to strive for
perfection, not for the end, but the
    journey? Am I the
    heretic for wanting the
    burning sunlight and the earned
joy, and not wishing for the free
    bliss of all?
    I suppose I am.

    Rules

1.)Do not speak for the purpose of speaking
2.)Just because something is a quote doesn’t mean it is a good quote
    3.)Feign Predictability
4.)Be fluid, consistency to a certain way can be blinding
    5.)Look up. Literally
    6.)Question everything, especially yourself
7.)The morals of others are not your own
    8.)Learn control
9.)Anger, prejudice, irrationality and corruption. These are the only sins
10.)Look behind you. Both figuratively and literally
    11.)Have healthy amounts of paranoia
12.)Carefully picked out arguments can be easily ignored
    13.)Everything has a backstory
14.)Being nice should not be gifted, it should be expected
15.)You will be hit in your blind spot
    16.)Prove your point
17.)Strive for perfection, but destroy it if you come close

I like these. My favorite is the second, although I don't personally agree with 9 and 14. But as you say these are your rules not mine.
Reasoning: Poetic and interesting without falling into cliches.

Well done. I hope you got a good grade.

The poem is very good, written in the way I enjoy reading things.

I agree with most of the rules, though I would like to ask you about number 9.

Do you mean that the act of being angry is a "sin", or that venting anger on people not deserving it is?

Anger can control you. It clouds your judgement, makes you violent, and prevents reason. I have many anger issues that I have worked very hard to control, so that is why 9 is there.

As for 14, when I do something nice, I expect nothing in return. I will even refuse rewards I may get just for being nice. It is something everyone should do and not something that should be surprising, or something that you do because you expect some kind of award. Should.

Also my teacher loved it so much she printed it and made herself a copy.
