How do you hold your controler?
How do you hold your controller when you're wanting to run and move the camera around at the same time? Nothing feels natural... I wish I could map R1 as my run button....

Re: How do you hold your controler?
I put my middle finger on R1, my index finger on my right analog, and my thumb on the circle button.

HOW? Your fingers only have so many knuckles.Dibsville wrote:I put my middle finger on R1, my index finger on my right analog, and my thumb on the circle button.

I use my thumb for the right analog stick, my index finger for the majority of the buttons and my middle finger for R1 and R2.

Re: How do you hold your controler?
I put my thumb on the stick,my index finger on B (circle for PS3) and my middle finger on the right bumper (R1) or right trigger (R2).The Xbox controller is much better as I only have to bend my index finger to do it.

Re: How do you hold your controler?
Like everyone's saying, you really need to use "the claw" (index on buttons, thumb on stick) to run and control the camera at the same time. It's the thing I was most glad to be rid of when switching to PC.

Ya... That's the best I could come up with. Do you guys hold your controller like this the whole time or just when running?
Upside down... Not sure if serious? Have to wait till tomorrow to try this....
This is either genius or I'm getting trolled..

Re: How do you hold your controler?
I hold it like that except I put my index finger on the analog and my thumb on circle.
I only hold it like that when I'm sprinting or doing reverse rolls.

Re: How do you hold your controler?
I tried the index finger on the buttons. Doesn't do it for me. My thumb has way more dexterity. I do it when I'm running long distances however.

Pointer finger on the circle button, using the tip for circle and the knuckle for triangle. My other fingers for R1 and R2, then my thumb for the camera.

I only did it when running. It caused such a cramp in my index finger.
Haha, there's no way anyone could get used to playing with the controller backwards. The directions reversed, and it would still be awkward to reach circle.
@Dibs: No way, that looks so uncomfortable!

Re: How do you hold your controler?
I like it better than index on the buttons.
It's easier to press the buttons with my thumb, and easier to move the analog with my index.

Index finger on circle and middle finger on triggers.
Or sometimes I'll just steer the analog with my chin.

Same here. Even in games like gears where you need to make it over to B (would be Circle on PS3 if gears were on that system) to roll, once you're used to it the time variance is so small it's largely negligible...and you don't cramp hands after extended sessions!
It's interesting to see what people have come up with, however.

Re: How do you hold your controler?
When I want to move the camera, and run at the same time, I have my index fingers on the bumpers, and one thumb on left analog stick, and the other O. Admittedly, I still want to the move camera, but I don't enjoy the ways I have to hold it do so. If ever absolutely need to readjust the camera on the run, I roll once or twice so I keep moving in the direction I need to so I can adjust the camera. Normally, if you are running, you'll go into a jump if try to roll, but if you were blocking before and during your run, it will be a roll. However, I generally avoid adjusting and try to rely on my mind's eye for figuring out what is happening when I can't see.
Admittedly, the 'claw' that people suggest seem to be the best solution to the problem short of jury rigging a motion capture device. If you're controller incompetent like me, you can console yourself with the fact that most things you need to or from are fairly predictable in motion.

I always thought I held it normally. Never occurred to me there was more than one way.

Can you stop being so awesome?
I hold my index finger on R1, right thumb on circle. Left index finger on L1. I also use my thumb for most of the buttons, I never ever used the index finger for that.
Never...

Re: How do you hold your controler?
After messing around with it a little this morning I've come to the conclusion that the backwards method is just too awkward. Specifically, it's controlling the analog sticks.
The claw method feels the most natural.
Dib's method feels a little less natural but it's nice because I can start the run holding the controller normally than switch to this without letting go of the run button.
Roan, that's a good tip. I tend to do that when I need an adjustment on the fly. My desire to run and adjust simultaneously is mostly due to being ganked in open areas (ei. forest). I'm not the best at gank busting.. slowing down just a little / wasting stamina can get me killed.
I'm trying to work on running away from your opponent then turning around ( while continuing to run) for a locked off bs. I guess it's a form of lag stab...
Thanks to all that helped!
