    Idea: Universal Tendency

    "The world of Dark Souls is made up of many dimensions. Some tell the tale of a lone warrior; another, of a trio. Others speak of dastardly warfare amongst brethren. Some dimensions are like a warm summer day. And some...are like hell."

    Indeed, this is another form of World Tendency that I proposed that it returns, simply because I liked the system, but can agree it was badly implemented. What the idea suggests is a "Universal Tendency" (because it is open world) that works the following way:

    a) Each time your character defeats a boss, the Tendency goes up by 2.
    b) Each time your character defeats a miniboss, the Tendency goes up by 1.
    c) Each time your character dies in Human, the tendency goes down by 1.

    Tendency Stones

    It is a universal rare drop from most enemies (meaning it can be farmed). When using it, you can decide to either increase or decrease the Universal Tendency by 1. It is a guaranteed drop from bosses.

    Effects of Universal Tendency:

    +20: F.E.A.R
    +11+: Repeated [Gains+] capping on +20 ([Gains+12])
    +10: Black Phantom invasion (To die for!), May drop full upgraded versions of their items, Gains+++. Black Phantom Event. Shortcuts Event.
    +8: Black Phantom invasion (Major), Gains ++.
    +5: Black Phantom invasion (Minor). Enemies will now drop upgraded versions of their weapons (Meaning they can be dropped at +3). Crystal Lizard Event.
    +3: Gains+ [Increases Souls gained and Drop Rates. Enemies become more powerful]
    0: NO EFFECTS
    -3: Pity...[See more Online Message Signs]; White Summon Event.
    -5: Horrible...[Sees more White Phantoms/Bloodstains]
    -8: You serious?...[Increases the summoning range by 10%]
    -10: Just quit...[Increases summoning range by 20%]
    -11-: Just keep quitting...[Summoning range +1% per point up to 10%] (Caps at -20)

    Regulating Rule: For every 15 in-game minutes that pass, Tendency will be given a free +1 if it is at -1 or under. The timer resets each time the Tendency is affected.


    Tendency Events:

    Crystal Lizards Event
    : Morph into enemies, their morphing depends on the level of the Black Tendency. They could include: Hollows, Dogs, Ogres, Trolls, Wyverns, Dragons and whatever beasts are planned.

    Black Phantom Event: Your triumph calls the Souls of mighty wraiths. Expect new, powerful NPC invaders.

    Shortcut Event: The flow of time has become so distorted that new passages await you. You've unlocked extremely beneficial shortcuts (Loot may not be included).

    F.E.A.R: Your dimension has twisted into the worst outcome. All sorts of doom and fortune awaits! [Crystal Lizards respawns, Guaranteed full upgrade drops/slabs from Black Phantoms, Some enemies respawn quickly;.........You know what? WHY DON'T YOU JUST DIE ALREADY!]

    White Summon Event: NPC summons appear. Newer ones appear as you lose more!

    Point of the Idea
    To make sure you DIE!
    Good players can forget about farming.



    In reality, I think I went overkill. Still, you get the general idea, right?
    Do you think Tendency could come back if some tweaks were made to how it worked?
    ...Ignore all the details, you'll probably think it's madness. Just...comment about the idea in general.

    Good players can forget about farming.
    Farming is a part of souls. How will a game cd know you're a good player? LOL.
    It seems a little much seig. Almost like a non-souls game but maybe a dlc type thing. To me it's a little too much to get your WT how you want. Personally I would like some form of WT but something a little less technical.
    Guaranteed full upgrade drops/slabs from Black Phantoms, That ruins farming. I hate farming but this just destroyed half your gameplay. Someone good at pvp with that idea would ruin it for those who can't pvp since they will never win anything good. Also, getting fully upgraded gear from your 1st invasion just created your build before 1st boss.
    This thread just took the world of souls to a whole new direction.

    In my experience, farming was never really a part of my gameplay that much considering you could find everything you need in a standard gameplay, so farming was just something optional if I screwed up and it barely lasted 2 hours unless I was looking for trophies.

    The whole system relies on giving skilled players a harder time. In a sense, the game is adjusting its difficulty. Also, do you know all the stuff you have to go through for that! You have to buff the mobs 12 times and fight them as Black Phantoms! Seriously, if you can handle that, then please just get what you want. I detest farming, unless a game was created around farming (Persona 3, for example) it feels dumb. Dark Souls was made by progress and challenge, not wasting your time farming. That is what the system is doing, removing farming and adding what the Souls games are about: Challenge, granted this is extreme.

    What do you mean by no one good at PvP can't get anything good? This system is completely PvE and who is to say this is the only way to get your upgrades. This is a optional thing for getting materials easily and effectively. You can get the upgrades the normal way (Much like right now you can without farming Darkwraiths), the only problem I can see is extremely skilled jerks using this to try to find +15 weapons on the first level by looking for Tendency Stones and beating a god-like mob for it. It could be adjusted, but this is merely a draft with a general idea.

    Lol, it's a dark souls player's dream.

    Long as you don't link NPC interactions and unique weapons dependent on tendency that would be a good system.

    Only things I disagree with- firstly dropping upgraded weapons- thats just a lazy PvPers dream, not a good mechanic- +10 tendency by beating 3 easy bosses (presuming 1 subboss) then farming for max weapon, then repeatedly kill ones self- oh look I just found easy mode! Ridiculous.

    Shortcuts shouldn't be for good players. You should be helping the bad players, not making them go the wrong way. In the same way as the previous point I touched upon- this is just a PvPers fallacy. Shortcuts are there for all, putting them in just for elite players who just want to faster PvP? nah.

    Take out the points that are biased for no reason other than idealism for PvP
    in and thats actually a good system- if I ignore the fact that FROM probably wouldn't implement the system- it's too exploitable..

    I guess as a summing it up- if the only point of the idea was to make you die more, not throw PvP fast tracks at you as well, it would be a good idea

    People who suck at pvp, would have a hard time getting fully upgraded gear because the experienced pvp'ers would have fully upgraded gear after 1st invasion. I'm talking bout your route not reg. gameplay. In order to advance further in the game, everyone farms. You can't tell me you don't farm. You're +5 weapon starts being a hassle if it's not upgraded after a certain point. You need greens for fire or divine and not everyone goes to sens to buy them right away.

    That's more or less my point. We have enough trouble with gankers now.
    Also, TBO, it's a little too much to figure out and remember. Especially if you can't access the wiki to figure it out.

    @Serious: Looking at it, I suppose you have a point considering that drop rates would already be dastardly increased, that would include ores and all. Providing them with already upgraded gear serves no purpose as they'll be getting ores easily too.

    Also, I added shortcuts as part of the "skilled" route because I'm not sure if players should be given such benefits for playing badly. It goes against everything the game stood for, which was being punishing. I think it would have been better if the game rewarded players for playing well (Although, in a Dark Souls way).

    @Twig: I don't farm. On a regular playthrough, because the playthrough gives you more than enough to make sure you don't farm. See? Only if you're going PvP are you going to farm.

    Actually seig technically it's your idea that goes against the idea of souls. As you know if you played demons, it's supposed to get harder if you play badly- not easier

    The more you suck, the harder the game tries to teach you.

    If you want easy mode, you have to prove its unnecessary because you can do it normally anyways. I wish more games did things like that.

    I though the tendency system in Demon Souls went against the idea a bit and was a bad design. Players who played badly were punished with constant bloodstain loses and the game never did try to provide players with better challenges. What? If I want a challenge I need to play bad? The whole reverse I did was to make it work like that.

    Also, there are barely any rewards for failing here. You get some phantoms and that is it. If you play to the +5, you get a bunch of items easily and Souls. Demons technically rewarded because it gave you souls and items!

    Also, I really don't care about the shortcuts. I just want the game to provide players with constant challenges where they deserve it. and...I want to see Crystal Lizards turn into monsters.
