    How was this possible?

Post by Back Lot Basher on Tue Jun 04, 2013 3:56 pm

I recently started helping a friend who is new to the game on Xbox 360. He was around level 15, in the Parish, and got invaded by a Darkwraith who was using both Dragon's Breath and the Dragon's Greatsword. Since each of those require seriously high level stats, how did he invade so low? Is this something new that's arisen since I was away?

Dragon's Breath = Dragon Head Stone? Because that doesn't require any stats at all. The minimum SL for wielding the Dragon Greatsword is SL24 though, so it's safe to assume it was a hacker.

If invaded by a DW, depending on where you were invaded, he could be higher than you because that's how some invasions work. In the forest, you could be sl 1 and get invaded by an sl 713

I don't think it works that way. Forest Hunters might get that perk, but DWs certainly don't, not even in the forest.

What could have happened though is that a Dorkmoon tried to invade (they can invade down infinitely) but their signal got mixed up with that of a Darkwraith and thus they invaded you as a red. It's a known and common bug. I ended up being a white phantom for someone who was a much higher SL once when trying to invade as a Darkwraith.

White Dragon's Breath is a spell requiring 50 intelligence, and the Dragon Greatsword is a weapon requiring 50 strength. That would have put him well above level 80.

We were in the Parish, not the Forest. And like I said, he was a Darkwraith, rather than a Darkmoon. Something seemed off too me.

That's actually something that makes more sense. My friend told me he accidentally hit the merchant in the Burg, so he definitely had sinned. I can live with that. I just hate to think that it was a hacker.

Ah, White Dragon Breath. Yeah, that's quite a different story. SL64 minimum then.

Yes, I know he was a Darkwraith. Or at least, he appeared as one. But that's the bug I was talking about. He could have been a Darkmoon who bugged out and appeared as a Darkwraith.

Thanks for clearing that up, Elifia. I'll tell my friend that's what he gets for slapping around bystanders!

I had the same thing once with my sl 11. Got invaded by an invader dual-wielding Dragonslayer Spear and Murakumo, wearing the Paladin set and flipping around. He kept telling me he was a Darkmoon, but the weird this was that I didn't commit any sin yet. And none of my other characters have (always cleared it and never recieved indictments yet at that time).
I assumed he was a hacker. He just slaughtered me right away, even when I was clearly using starting gear. Which is fine, but I'd figure he'd be a little bit surprised.

    That still doesn't explain it.

Level 50 can be matched with: 1-65
Level 100 can be matched with: 1-120

notes: According to others, invading below the co-op range (white sign soapstone's range) requires 1:1 accumulated sin from the host-- an extra point of sin for each level below the normal range. So to invade a player far below your level means the host needs a lot of sin. I have not verified nor disproved this aspect yet.

    matchmaking formulas thread

A darkmoon can invade anyone with sin in co-op range. So a SL 64 could invade a host as low as SL 48. However, a host needs to be indicted to get invaded by darkmoons outside co-op range. Also, only indictments count towards the sin for invasion calculations. The 1-1 ratio would mean that your friend would need 33 indictments to be invaded by a SL 64 darkmoon at SL 15.

So, in short... I CALL HAX!!

My SL1 guy got invaded by an SL50 (I messaged him and asked him) Darkmoon, I had maybe (at a stretch) 3 or 4 indictments.

It has been my experience that Darkmoons invade down regardless of the 1:1 sin/level theory.

Also if you host in the Forest you get invaded by Forest hunters are per the Darkwraith/RSS formula. You can't be an SL1 host invaded by an SL700 Hippy.

That's incorrect. Forest Hunters work the same way Darkwraiths do, as in, Invader level -10%, +infinity. SL15 should not be able to be invaded by a character with those specs, it was likely a hacker.

    This is straight off the wiki. I was thinking of the wrong covenant;

When invading via the Darkmoon Blade Covenant Ring there is no level restriction. This means that a SL1 Darkmoon can invade a SL713 player, and vice versa
