Yesterday, I messing around with my main guy in NG+. After having a little problem with the Capra demon, I thought I'd take on the Gaping Dragon. Still the only boss that I can take out on the first try with out losing any health...every time.

    Even in NG+.

Wow we seem to be opposites. I have no issues with Capra anymore but Gaping is stupidly annoying, it's not that I'm getting hit or killed but he just takes so little damage from me that it takes forever to kill him, also throw in Solaira and Lautrec and it's like giving caffine to a spider, scientific way of saying it's a huge freaking mess.

A great challenge to make GD more interesting is to summon Solaire and try to keep him alive for more than 30 seconds.

Impossible! Lol, in all seriousness, has anyone tried using the princess guard miracles to heal him?

Wasn't too hard, I two handed my GSoA and took his tail off in 2-3 hits. After that, I just waited for him to do his rush attack and then he's vulnerable for a couple of free hits right after. I even kept my distance and threw lightning bolts at him for a change of pace.

In NG it took me a few tries, primarily because he could come close to a one shot on me. Didn't help that I was hoarding humanity and not kindling bonfires, leaving me with only five chances to heal and kill. Also over 50% weight so dodging was not my thing. In NG+, knowing his attack pattern and with better equipment.....No problemo

Yeah, not to mention that I pretty much farmed him in my first run through of the game. I can't tell you how many times I helped people kill him

I totally agree and someone made a thread the other day talking about how hard that boss was and I was like...if you find that hard then brace yourself.

    Here's another tip.

When he jumps high in the air, RUN. Turn around and run away. That's the one attack that can surprise you.

There's a really wide range of possible experiences with Gaping, bigger than most bosses. If you have killed the Channeler, and cut his tail off quickly, he is cake and can even be fun to experiment different spells on just for lolz. But if he gets buffed by the Channeler, and then starts spamming tail swipes because nobody got back there in time, watch out. Same goes if he jumps and traps someone near the wall or corner and then starts stomping. Most other bosses have a predictable difficulty level, but not this guy. I've actually never lost to bosses like 4 Kings, S&O, or Gwyn, but Gaping had taken me to the woodshed a number of times.

He's a tough boss at lower levels. Took me a couple tries, mainly because his tail swipe could easily OHKO me, so if I didn't get his tail I was screwed. That and the fact that I was doing less than 100 per hit meant I really had to take him on carefully.

Yeah, I always take out the channeler. It's part of my OCD of completely exploring a level before taking on the boss.

Lol, last night, I even used Wrath of the Gods on him for the lulz.

it took me over 2 hours during my first play through.

to cut me some slack, i was cursed and had a non-upgraded weapon and didn't know much about the game at all. and I was solo.

i felt great after beating him.

I usually leave the Channeler alive, it makes it a lot more fun trying to dodge his grab, body slam, and soul spears! Also, don't cut off the tail. Ruins all the fun.

if your a phantom helping somebody you can stay outside the room and snipe him from the balcony just above the fog door, you'll aggro him at you but he can't hit you with any attack except the puke( even though it doesn't touch the balcony) this makes the fight easy for your host and other phantom as it completely focuses on you allowing them to kill it with ease, fun to use the dragon slayer bow, though it gets caught on the balcony edge more often than say a composite bow.

    @ calip and strangejoy

lol Solaire is a pro at getting himself killed by the gaping dragon! To keep him alive, I found the best way was to always stand on opposite sides of the dragon, to always keep it confused and going back and forth between the two of you. If you're on the same side as Solaire, the idiot will just stand there and take all the dragon's hits while you're dodging.

Yeah using arrows on him from above is smart. I've wondered if the same is possible with the golem in sens', if you stand up where the firebomb giant was. The firebomb giant can throw bombs into the boss fight, so presumably you could do the same with arrows.
