    A question regarding a covenant

Post by Mr. Tart on Tue May 28, 2013 1:40 pm

A lot of covenants are made, but few succeed.

You may remember that I "quit" recently and that obviously, I also came back. The reason as to why I came back was that I'm working on a covenant and I'd like to see it made. However, I don't want to spend lots of time working on a lore, description, rules and events just to watch it die. No, I would like to see how many would be interested in joining if I actually made it.

The covenant was mainly inspired by the concept of Dark Souls II.

The lore will be the primary focus of this covenant and roleplaying will be a large aspect in it. Because of this I may or may not be more picky about what equipment may be used by what ranks. I know some people dislike limit, which is why I wrote "may or may not". The basic rule in the covenant is to help people and collect coins. You help someone for a coin. If you fail, you return it or throw it away. The coins you collect are turned in to the leaders for a reward of some kind. I believe you can guess the value in each coin.

The covenant will also play part in Dark Souls II, which will be the main game for the covenant(assuming there are things such as coins or any valuables available).

The name will most likely be "The Royal Guards".
There are three key words at this point: Government, royalty and justice.

This is what you've been cooking up, right? Anyway, I'd be interested and while I think limits/restrictions can be Ok you have to understand that in the early stages/recruiting stages of the covenant it's usually better to be as accommodating as your lore allows because you want people to feel welcome and accepted by the group you're coming up with.

Yeah, I thought of that. But honestly, I doubt this covenant will have any success. Most people seem to like it simple.

I never really got into the user covenant stuff for Dark Souls but for Dark Souls 2 I do wish to get more into them. So my interest in this is peaked.

What kind of helping people? What are the rewards? How will events work?

It's tough to say if It'd be interesting or not with so little info about it

Helping as in co op with other members to clear areas and defend against invaders.
Rewards would be meeting new people and making friends.
Events is tough to say at this time cause DkS2 isn't out yet.

Haha, well, twigs answered your question about helping people. It's mostly "honourable" helping, although I'm considering allowing the lowest rank(mercenaries as I call them) to help gankers too and not follow such rules, specifically for roleplaying purposes. I'm not entirely sure though. If 10 people show interest in this covenant I'll make a topic in the covenant section where I will have a suggestion section before implementing it. So keeping an eye on that(if it's made/once it's made) would be a good idea.

twigs answers your question on events too. It will take a while before I finish it(the covenant). This topic was to make sure I don't "waste" more time on it just to have it die. However, if I get it done and still have a couple of months left before the release date of DkS II, which I probably will(I think), I will make sure to set up some kind of event.
What I have in mind so far is "tax collecting" which is pretty much just collecting coins in a couple of hours or, I don't know. I guess that might be boring, but well, if that would be fun, the one with the most gets a reward. Otherwise I could think of something similar such as "ganking" or "invading" people, asking them for coins or pay the price. Once again, maybe these are just dull, but if you have any suggestions of your own, please, by all means, give me suggestions. It would be greatly appreciated.

    But until then, just try to imagine it being the medieval guard;
Collecting taxes to "protect" the people, but with some actual honour to it, unlike back then.

Can I join this? And are there any specific requirements to enlist? Also, I can't promise to be able to play regularly. Is that okay?

That's just fine as long as you show some kind of activity. I might be slightly picky about how you play, being that lore players a larger part in this covenant, but as I've said, I will make suggestions for people to vote for and see if they like. Just vote "Yes" in the poll if you wish to join so that I can count your vote when deciding on whether to make the covenant or not.

Before posting to get people to join something Tart, always try to have a proof of concept. People generally won't go off of vague descriptions alone, it shows that maybe the person isn't committed. Show commitment, and set it up first.

Hey, you reached 10 yes votes! happy I said maybe. I like the idea of helping people (I haven't done it enough in Dark Souls, spent very little time as a sunbro) and of lore-based roleplay. But, not knowing all the aspects of DkS 2 that will inspire user-covenants, I'd have to wait and see if this is the one that I'd most enjoy focusing on.

I have no interest of writing full pages for a covenant no one is interested in, which is why I made this topic. If the finale outcome isn't interesting to anyone, that's a shame. But this won't really affect them much if that's the case. I made this topic to see if anyone was interested at all. While the description is at this point lacking, compared to what the finale version, it's still something, and like I said, it won't affect anyone all that much.
