i do not like the idea of staying attached to a set of armor or weapons i would like armor and weapons to break and you need to get new ones or maybe repair them but they will maybe reset to +1 or something and there is more ways to get a weapon you lost not to only have one of that weapon in the entire game maybe if its super epic or something.

This is one of the worst ideas I've ever heard, and I hate you for even suggesting it....mattecoolio wrote:i do not like the idea of staying attached to a set of armor or weapons i would like armor and weapons to break and you need to get new ones or maybe repair them but they will maybe reset to +1 or something and there is more ways to get a weapon you lost not to only have one of that weapon in the entire game maybe if its super epic or something.

In all seriousness, that's a terrible idea.

Not the best idea, if I'm honest.
Think about it- you get ONE slab per playthrough (probably)- Would you ever use it if your weapon broke permanently? I definitely wouldn't
Should you try out a variety of weapons? Yes. But I don't think this should be enforced on everyone. If someone wants to be a katana ****, let them be- they're missing out on other great weapons.

Dark Souls is about teaching the player to beat the game, making it harder every time you die is the opposite effect, making it the same is what they strive for. Its all on you.

Aha, Good old Tendency. It was the Game's version of Punishing the Sinful.

Rewarding you for being good at a game is hardly a troll in my opinion dibs

The idea itself isn't bad. It just needs some tweaking...
I think it'd be great if when your armor reached 0 durability, it would "break" and when you repair it again it would go back a few, or all levels.
Normally I'd be harassing the OP about his awful grammar, but the idea got me thinking and managed to distract my anger.

Lol, you play in offline to manipulate world tendency, everyone knows that
and then you always play through levels in soul form so you cant reduce world tendency
This is like tendency manipulation 101 dibs!

I don't think it should be like that, instead, why don't we increase the rate durability deteriorates? Gives a reason to have a repair box...

No. There are crystal weapons, or at least there are in Dark Souls...that's good enough for me.

Changing your combat style with new weapons is not a bad idea rather a good one. However that is not the case here. There is a bond with your weapon and armor that is unique and respected. We should take care of our gear but not lose them when they break. A blade get dull as it is used and becomes weaker, but is repaired and regains it strength. Like with armor where it chips, breaks and is then repaired to be used. Make weapons hit weaker noticeably as durability is lowered and make armor less defensive. You don't lose your items forever when they break, you don't use them. Although I rather not have them return to base stats. I just see a market for slabs that can be abused to hell if that happens. Like give up all boss souls for 2 slabs. No thanks.

It's surprising to find this even suggested. I happen to think that a more strident weapon/armor status is a good idea; if only because it would make each players experience more consequential.
Not getting attached, though, that is a confusing idea. Mattecoolio, why do you not like the idea of getting attached to armor or weapons? You've made a claim here about the way things 'should' be. Can you offer an explanation why?

I wholeheartedly disagree with this suggestion. The equipments I use on my different characters, identify them. With each equipment you use, you can almost make a story out of your character. Your equipments give you are unique design (assuming you like to randomize your equipments), and it makes you stand out from the rest.
I accidentally mentioned the word "Equipment" four times during this post... Eh, who cares. My point still stands.

obviously weapons stats should scale with durability status. upgrades are so rare in the game though, so losing them would make them pointless altogether, and I don't like the idea of making upgrades more common to compensate. also like others said. some weapons there is only one of. Sure I'd love to have 4 versions of my trusty halberd, but I only get one so I have to live with my decisions on the upgrade path.
I'm down with brainstorming on ideas, but the reality though is that dark souls was a very good game with few flaws. I don't think it needs major changes. just a few tweaks in weak areas.

Sharpening your weapons when they get dull, like in Monster Hunter, would be a good reason to repair your weapons. Otherwise they would start bouncing off armor much like when you don't have enough skill to use them

Ignore the invaders part. And I prefer body form. It's weird not hearing anything from your character.

One thing I did like about farming pure stones in Demon's Souls over getting one slab per play through is that you could actually get more pure stones. so building a weapon might be consuming in the same play but do-able

We have a very small chance to farm normal slabs from the darkwraiths but I doubt it is worth it for it's small drop chance. However considering the worth of them I think it was wise for that low drop rate. Although it would be nice to add the other slabs. It would help me form that weapon I like in game.

Truth be told all slabs are farm-able but the creatures you get them from I never bother killing the butterflies in the crystal caves. I' pretty sure most people don't. Then to make it a rare which is basically a Very Rare drop in DeS game terms lol
