They changed it back to You Defeated because of Fan Feedback.
You're pretty much alone on this

Well you know, Praisin ain't easy, and it's more Dark Soulsey to have defeated something than to be victorious.

"You revived to human", "You recovered". At least "You died" is right. Good enough.

I actually like the "You Defeated" thing. I always think you mentally should add the boss you killed in that statement.

1) Parry the tips of spears
2) Better strength upgrade path.
3) Dont make fast roll so op.
4) Smaller bs hitbox and/or a viable counter move.
5) Improve on the covenant system.
6) Get rid of dead angles.
7) ...I could dream all day....

"You're Victorious" sounds right
"You Defeated" sounds cool in a Dark Souls way (and we all know what that means)

I think they want the victory message to be vague enough to make you uncertain if you did the right thing by killing it.Slarg232 wrote:Well you know, Praisin ain't easy, and it's more Dark Soulsey to have defeated something than to be victorious.

One thing not done particularly wrong in Dark Souls, though would do well in Dark Souls II, is character customization. Games in fantasy settings should include facial hair as an option.
More importantly, I personally think that the overall customization of your appearance should INCLUDE the ability to customize how your apparel looks.
I think the ability to dye armors and clothes might be going a bit far, though the ability to really manipulate how a player looks, even in armor, is truly paramount to crafting a personalized experience. And, going forward into the next generation of gaming, I think allowing the player to craft their own personalized experience is something we'll see more and more.
Imagine a wanderers hood where you can choose whether you want the hood up, or pulled back on your shoulders. Imagine an armor set where each piece can be replaced with stronger types of 'metals' or upgrade materiel, each with different aesthetics. Armor sets where you can change the iron shoulder guard for a shinier steel one, or a steel breastplate replaceable by a stronger golden or silver one. Or cloth robes where elbow plates can be attached or belts and straps upgraded, et al.
As complex as a system that would allow for such deep customization of apparel might be, it is the next step in the ability to truly make a game world your own. And, it might practically ensure that with mix/matching, you'll likely never run into an invader or summon who can claim the same appearance as yourself, which does have a tendency of breaking immersion.
Of course, unique armors should and will remain with static aesthetics. And while this idea probably won't happen, imagine the possibilities if you could craft a truly unique undead hero.
Anyone feel the same, or would this level of customization only clutter the experience?

^ same.
That was one thing I really liked about DCUO, which I wouldn't really consider to be an rpg. But the customization of it all was pretty sweet, and very immersive like you elluded to.

Actually, "YOU DEFEATED" is grammatically correct. The only thing that could be considered wrong is all caps and a missing period. Also, I prefered the "YOU ARE VICTORIOUS" message too.

Actually, one of the armor sets in Dark Souls does that. If you don't have the hood equiped, then it's on the back. If you do have it equiped, then it's on your head. I forget which set does that. I noticed it once and thought it was cool. It's reminded me of the collar on the Black Cleric Robes.

It would be nice, but I just don't think it would fit with the game. This game was never as in depth as other RPGs.
One thing they should get right the first time is BB glitch, or should I post lack of it. . I could make a page long rant about it.

Bosses with "Phases" would be nice. I know it sounds a little MMO-ey, but honestly, it would be kind of cool. Artorias had one.
There was Artorias, and then there was Super Saiyan Artorias. dat ****. I lyk.
Also, more bosses. harder mobs. More Game Theory applied. Intelligent A.I. vs Monsters who use Attack A,B,C or A, A, C. I want Attack C to happen because Attack A got blocked. Critical thinking.

Weapons need to be properly scaled prerelease. They need to provide each stat path its share of S scaling weapons (magic weapons without since its a magic focused build) I know that tweaks always need to be made after release to balance things, but COME ON, DkS took forever to get it somewhat right with weapon scaling, and it took away from my first playthrough.. Damn lightning weapons owning my pure str build with its very limited S scaling choices. I hope they do away with base magic weapons all together, as that was so exploited. Just enchant it with a usable item/spell. You can roll a pure "vit/end with every other stat neglected" build with a +10 lightning and still dominate my well thought out build? I don't want to see that $&/! Again.

What exactly do you mean about customization not fitting with the game?
Dark souls is one of the few RPG's on current Gen Consoles where you can actually design your own face, as well as chose from several armor sets. It wa made to emphasize uniqueness for each individual player. Indeed, it's even among the fewer games that don't start you with a backstory. You are simply... an Undead. Everything else about your characters story, you create in you mind.
I'm not quite sure you understood what I meant by armor/equip customization. In any case, if we go off of the evidence, it's crystal clear that the Souls series is about customizing our own experience. Eventually, RPG's that wan't to impress will implement more character customization, in a lot of aspects.
