We need more Mimics. I think we need a Mimics with Lazer beams! Mimic doors and Mimic Bonfires! Mimics are the iconic image of Dark Souls!

    Thank you, Dibs.
This time they must make them indistinguishable, and also makes them imitate more than 1 item
Maybe they could make things a bit more unpredictable by making it a random spawning mob that moves stuff and takes their place, or tries to hide the real object by putting something in front of it if it can't be moved (such as a lever)

Do what they should have done in DkS; as DkS in NG, but in NG+, EVERY chest becomes suspect. Even the ones in Firelink.

i'd personally like patches to have a story arc where he turns into one, after all the only sin of those made into mimics was consuming greed, patches fits that nicely. also corpse mimics, they pretend to be a lootable body then when you go to loot then they rear up and the head splits in half down the center revealing rows of teeth and proceeding to eat your face.

I would like less predictable mimics they need to be so randomized that it's not even funny

I agree. In Dark Souls 2 mimics should be randomized. Not only that but have different variants and difficulty levels depending on the level. I am kind of getting sick of fighting the same pair of giant legs over and over again. Also, maybe random drops inside, eg: one could have a crystal straight sword or a heal miracle at the start of the game, to help new players. :mask-averice:

I would like to see different types of mimics as well some short and stumpy some average size. and maybe some in different emotional states instead of the consistent crazy thurst for greed one could be angry and more hostile or another could be sad with slugish but strong attacks

    Bipolar Mimic.

I can just imagine all the different animations for these guys, its hilarious. These guys are just some of those strange comic reliefs we all like.

Why not make a single type of shapeshifting mimic? intelligent enough to identify what would interest our hero, and take its form.

And then one boss could be a giant room mimic trying to kill you in various ways

Chest mimics. Vase mimic. Corpse mimic. Twinkling lizard mimic. Illusory wall mimic. Bonfire mimic...
Sometimes it can get you think about yourself as a mimic. :3 Unfortunately, I spoiled all the !!FUN!! with mimics by watching DkS playthrough, when it wasn't available on PC. Now I'm looking forward to frustrating surprises :3

Unless the mimic types are randomised for each mimic then they will become predictable eventually.
Also I have to disagree with the idea of completely randomly placed mimics, there would either have to be lots of chests or a limitation to where they could spawn as a mimic in the undead burg would be near impossible to kill or would have to be very weak. This restriction could of course be restricted in later playthroughs. The amount of mimics in each playthrough would have to be kept about the same as it could be case that one person has 12 mimics and another only has 2.

But how would you identify them if they are all randomized without making it get annoying?
If they leave easy clues like the position of the chain as it is the case in dks,it will get very easy to spot them and the randomness will be useless. On the other hand,hitting/throwing an Lloyd's talisman at every chest you see before opening them may get irritating.
What if the location of the chests themselves is random? Each place has a set amount of chests/treasure,of course, but the place where the chests/treaure are located may change on each playthrough. It would incentivate exploration, but again may get a bit annoying to some people.

You mean, I walk into a room and it starts to breath, reach in and try to grab me, and I have to avoid areas of it's stomach acid?

    Count me out.

Just do what I did on my first playthrough:

Step 1: Get eaten by a chest.

Step 2: Die and freak out.

Step 3: Tell your roomate you just got eaten by a chest and drag him to the TV

    Step 4: Repeat steps 1 and 2.

Step 5: Talk about how awsome that was.

Step 6: Attack every chest from behind to avoid getting eaten.

I hate to say it but that is the main problem for me with random mimics. Although if there was something to make them stand out or at least catch the player's eye from the surrounding area that could be a easy solution.

Lloyd's talismens would have a purpose outside of PVP.
There are ways of checking chests (Breathing, chain being different, hitting it)

Or maybe sometimes a mimic will come out of nowhere to hide the nearest chest and replace it, so if you happen to find another chest in a weird place, or two chests not far from eachother, one of them is likely to be a mimic

They could also add some trap chest:

Chest that explode in your face when opened.

Chest that release a gas when opened.

Chest that trigger an arrow trap when opened.

Small but powerful enemies that jump out of chests like in Borderlands 2.

They could also add more mimic variety:

Mimics that behave like giant skeleton dogs.

    Mimics that cast spells.

Mimics that mimic levers instead of chest. (I think someone listed this already.)

Some really good suggestions here since I last posted, and GrinTwist hass the topic in a nutshell. thumbs up Honestly though, I find shapeshifting mimics to be the most promising, as I'm sure mimics that release a toxic or explosive Aoe would ruin a lot of new players' experience of the game. happy

Fial Fantasy XII did this. The game used big blue crystals as save spots and some turned into monsters. They were pretty tough enemies to boot.

Another reason why FFXII is the best mainline tittle since VI, but I better not go that way... This stuff always starts flame wars.
