They don't tell what is on the test, the teachers are not allowed to know what is on the test, every year they tell you about how talking about these tests is against a state law, every year they make it harder, every year the makers of these things assume majorities will be in the A zones, every year they make more of these blasted random tests required to pass a class and not everyone has the same test. Oh I forgot they now are computerized!

Edit: Oh and they expect you to know how to do things like geometry questions in your mind with only a calculator.

When a teacher says that the current high schoolers are getting out of public education at a good time they are not kidding.

It's stupid that teachers aren't allowed to know what's on the test, because they don't know what to teach.

Do we really not trust our teachers so much that they aren't allowed to be told what's on a test for their class?

Public schools are competitive enough that teachers WILL tell their students what's on the exams so their schools get a higher passing percentage, they get bigger subsidies for performing better.

They could at least look at an example test or practice test so they know what material will be on the test.

The Dutch system has a set curriculum that's the same at every school, and a handful of that curriculum will be tested on the exam. We're taught and trained to expect anything in that curriculum to be on the exams, and that system works. I know it seems overwhelming at times, but push through. You(and Soris too obviously) can do it. You're not obligated to compete against anyone but yourself, this is your time to gather knowledge and you should capitalise on the chance to learn as much as you can.

In Florida I'll be glad when the FCAT is gone. Part of how the school grading went with the No Child Left Behind program. Still everyone has to do good since that effects the amount of funds the school gets.

That's where the problem of a privatised education system lies, especially with stuff like No Child Left Behind. Instead of putting the pressure on the schools to excel in teaching, the pressure is placed on the student to excel in learning. Socialised education means that schools get subsidised no matter what and schools that perform poorly in teaching(emphasis on teaching) get penalised for it.

I'm p***ed off lately as I bought an expensive computer only to have it not work.I specifically paid extra to speed up it's construction and delivery, only to have to return it for repairs days later.By the time it will be done,it will probably be mid way through next week when I have it back, completely negating what I paid extra for.I bought the computer for gaming and have been torturing myself by watching gameplay for the games I bought, the ones just sitting there, unplayable in front of me.

Hard day for me. Emotionally draining. Can't go into details, but I'm fried. It is nothing like what some of you experience on a daily basis (my deepest sympathies for you all), but it still sucked.

I already shared this with a couple people on the forum, but i figured i'd share it here aswell.

As it would turn out, the chemo my mom takes is starting to take a toll on her balance, i fear soon enough she won't be able to drive, and she'll feel even more trapped. Hell, right now she can't even walk down the street without someone helping her.

It was bad enough when she found out she couldn't do as much as she likes too, but if my predictions are true (Which i hope they aren't) i think shes going to be greatly upset.

Though i suppose its better than her being dead, which she should have been withing the first 12 months we found out about the brain tumor. Shes the 1% that survives past 12 months, and for that i am grateful, but that doesn't make this any less stressful.

And my brother and sister i don't think see this as i do. They act sometimes as if she doesn't even have cancer. I don't think they realize that she could just not wake up one morning, and lie in her bed dead. It's the cold, dark truth, but its one I've come to accept, and if god takes her, so be it. I'll just enjoy the time I've left with her.

animaal im happy to hear the operation went as good as it did.
demonoffate I have to say you are doing much better than I ever would if my mom had a brain brain tumor. as for your brother and sister imo it sounds like they are just dealing with it differently but unless they are young (which im assuming they aren't) then they probably realize it and are in their own way charishing the time left. Now if you don't mind I have a dumb question. You said that she has survvived the first twelve months right? So that means she still has the tumor right or am I understanding this wrong? I apologize for my stupidity but im very tired and want to make sure im understanding this correctly.

Oh no, its fine friend. The tumor is no longer in her brain, as they manged to get rid of it. But the tumor is never really "gone". There are still cancer cells somewhere in her brain, and they could cause another tumor to grow withing months, many people have regrowth, but luckily we've been clear so far.

But i haven't heard of anyone who hasn't had regrowth. Someone my mother met in a cancer support group had regrowth 5 years after her first treatment. With brain tumors under stage 3, doctors are able to wipe all the cancer cells clean, but with 3 and 4 then there is literally no chance to get rid of all the cancer cells.

But this fact is even worse because she is alergic to her chemo, but its the only thing she can take to keep the cancer cells from causing another tumor to sprout up. And i suppose its possible that my brother and sister just have their own way to get relief from the stress.

    @Demon

I am so, so sorry. My father-in-law had/has a brain tumor as well. It started in 1995....he's spoiling my 4 year old and my 6 year old as I type this, praise the Lord. Prostration

He's been in and out of remission more times than I can remember. I've been married for 10 years.

I love him very much. My father and I were not close at all until I had children. He has been a "bro" I could go to anytime I've needed, even about his own daughter.

At times its been impossible to let him open the door at McDonald's or at home when he's struggling and can barely even walk.

I can relate to you on a lot of different levels.

However, he is not my mother. I can only begin to imagine how that must feel. I've been a momma's boy my whole life, obviously....I just dont know what to say, so I'm rambling I suppose.

*random* You are so %$#@ing mature for your age.

I will be more than happy to actually talk to you if you wanted. I log on about twice a day, and will be home all day (for the most part) taking care of my wife for the next month. The pm offer is for real.

Regardless, if I never talked to you again, I just want to say your attitude is outstanding. You seem like a well adjusted young man and give old men like me hope for the next generation.

I guess the best advice I could give you would be to do what you're doing. Its all well and good to see God has a plan, but I would assume you're the type of son that will be helping her walk, do a chore, and/or simply get through it.

I wish you the best and pray to God you find the friend and family support you need.

    PS-Thanks Soris and twighlight Bow

    So true.

The last time my father-in-law had regrowth, it was actually in his jawline by the axis.

I'm tellin ya though, this guy has literally the nickname of "The man, the myth, the legend".

Thanks for the offer Animaaal, i just might take you up on it. Sorry to hear about your father. And i suppose i'm pretty mature for my age, i see the world how it is, but a part of me wishes i didn't. Apart of me wishes i could just be a naive little 13 year old and not worry about these things.

But i can't, its not who i am, and its not someone i will ever be. Perhaps its not even someone i want to be, but sometimes i wonder if not knowing is better than knowing and having to deal with the stress. But i'll never know will I? Heh, perhaps it is better this way.
