I'm trying to decide whether or not to go full vampire specifically to do the Dawngaurd dlc, varmpire questline.
If I do go vampire; it will be my first time doing so.
So what should I know and do about going full on vampire?

    Have you done it before?

If you have, you will know you can become a vampire mid way. Or do you intend to see if there are different reactions before you have the chance to be turned by already being a vampire?

About that; You'll want to be careful. Sunlight halts regeneration of any kind, so it may be hard to sustain general survivability. You do get Potions of Blood in Dawnguard though, and slaves in the stables to feed off. Being blood-starved doesn't allow you to socialise normally anymore, so feeding before that happens may be useful.

Find a place to feed near you! You will need to deal with that often and you can't avoid the transition to the next phase like in Oblivion by avoiding sleep. Regeneration stops in the day hours outside so have items to restore it or enchant armor. As a vampire Lord you hover but take fall damage, and melee as one is pointless as the magic is way op. You might want to try exploring in night now if you go full vampire.

Oh weapons that drain health are a good idea to have with you. About the feeding Like before there is vampire seduction that works on some people but not always. I got Hearthfire dlc to have a feeding area and I tend to travel at the home I built at night to feed of the driver guy. Fast travel to far also triggers the next phase and you can't fast travel during the day.

But feeding is a hell of a pain by going Dawnguard way and they will kill you for being a vampire. Plus as a vampire you can kill them all for a vampire quest.

Since the dawnguard dlc people won't attack you once you stay a long time without feeding, so that is not a problem anymore. Also, when you stay 3 days without feeding you gain a calm spell that let you feed off awoken people.
It is not hard at all to be a vampire in Skyrim. In Oblivion and Morrowind though...
And you do can fast travel during the day as a vampire. You only couldn't in Oblivion.

^Dragonborn came out since then, you can go to Solstheim and Apocrypha, and there's a ton of magic improvement.

I laughed my àss off at the spears though.
    And dragon riding sucks.

Pretty much everything Plankton said was true, the rest of them lied.Fast travel works, the sun only weakens you and stops regeneration, people still talk to you,the only difference is they comment about you being pale or having a hungry look to you.
The Dawnguard have some nicer perks like buyable creature companions, crossbows and the like. But the Volkihar are good if you like dark, messed up vampire movies.
Being a vampire lord is great if you have a more brittle character like a mage as you get a decent health boost while transformed. You can do decent melee damage and rip people's throats out or bombard them with life draining spells. The spells are powerful but the melee is not as good as a werewolf's.

I'd think it's better to go with the werewolf
The new perk tree is very easy to max out and, when it's done, you can spam sprint attck on anything and kill them in less than 10 seconds (for the strongest, such as legendary dragons) while they're stunlocked
You can even summon more spectral werewolves to have extra armor piercing antimatter claw attacks.

I have a solution, branching saves.Just save before you go to Castle Dawnguard, then you can try out the vampire lord, werewolf and Dawnguard without having to make a new character.
I agree that the werewolf is powerful until you get to high level but the thing that I hate is how you can't toggle it like the vampire lord form.A locked door is an absolute b**ch when you have massive claws that can't hold a lockpick.I know not being able to pick locks makes sense but it's very annoying to have to change form to open a door.

I love that Bethesda let us turn into proper monsters now,the Morrowind werewolf was basically a hunched, reskinned man who ran quickly and just punched stuff.I'd love to become a wereboar/werebear in the next game.
