Punishments for death? Empty Punishments for death?

Post by Dibsville Wed May 15, 2013 10:35 pm

Obviously we'll be losing all of our souls...
But in Demon's, we lost our body form.
In Dark Souls, we lost our human form as well as our humanity.
But what do you think we'll lose in Dark Souls II?

I think we will be losing our "light". The new counter that takes the place of the humanity one looks like a sun and moon.

If I have to die to lose light then I want to die a lot then. The moon is so better than the sun. I wonder though what do they mean? By that I mean their purpose.

Just remember that the trailer was still a pre-whatever version, so the spacial area may just be a filler until they figure out something else to put in there.

I like the idea of losing light, maybe it could be like world tendency, closer to night would be like black tendency, and vise versa for day. (<-- Said by someone else quite some time ago)

It be insane if they got crazy with the cheese whiz and made it so that if you lose all your light you would go hollow and lose the character. Suck it Diablo.

I think when playing in "hollow" form should have penaltys (like slowing movement speed or stat drops) so that players would have more reason to turn human form.

I agree that players need a bit more motivation to go human, but I would hardly call it fair to punish those who are not confident enough to risk their world by going human. I say, more perks for humans instead of penalties for hollows.
A slight increase in souls for instance. Also, only allow the item discovery to increase when you are in human form.

As for punishment after death: My suggestion, when you die, the surrounding enemies will grow stronger until your body have been picked up, or if you lose it.
I would have suggest to make the NPC who killed you (assuming you didn't fall off the edge) a black phantom. I quickly realized that this would have been a terrible idea, because imagine being forced to fight a BP black knight or titanite demon.

I really wouldn't mind a return to some DeS mechanics. Character and world tendency were great IMO. I also wouldn't mind seeing a return of half hp while hollow.

My personal thoughts are these: Being Hollow should not be a punishment, but there should be incentive you go Human, which I mark as:

    1) A 10% effectiveness of Estus.
    2) The ability to see message ratings (Shouldn't have been limited to Seek Guidance).
    3) Increase Item Discovery by 50.
    4) Increase Soul gain by 10% (Except in Bosses).

It could be that this "light" actually determines whether it is daytime or nighttime in the game, and I'd assume that the creatures and obstacles in each area would vary depending on that time. Assumingly, the nighttime would be more devastating, and death would cause such time to come forth.

    punishment for playing hollow

could include small stat debuffs (against top 3 stats)

    slower movement attack speed.

    obviously the summoning aspect

    NPC interactions should be affected

less souls and item drop rates.

decreased effectiveness of items and spells.

    or...

make black phantoms invade hollowed players instead.
