Pyro is such a helpful addition. Too much so, maybe...

Post by EeAyEss on Wed May 15, 2013 1:07 pm

So on my lvl 120 toon which I love, I had been wondering if I should supplement my build with some pyromancies. I thought yes, and my build went from this

    http://mmdks.com/2bzi

    to this

    http://mmdks.com/2bzm

Just 3 slots and 80~ more hp points.

I just invaded. I black flamed my opponent for roughly 300~ dmg, two-handed the zwei, r1 with r2 follow-up, then black flame again to chip shield. Opponent dead in less than 5 seconds. Holy crap. I love it.

That is one prepared pyro there. So many slots you just need to fill them with pyromancies and anything can die.

Without having stat scalings like Intelligence or Faith or a Pyro equivalent this will be the dynamic.

My favorite sorcer. Though in all honesty its really easy to dodge. Cant remember the last time ive been hit by pyro and it wasnt intentional (trading blows). Though your average pvper wont be so good usually. Or maybe its because i like to "read" my oppenent. I dont know Shrug haha

Forgive me Soris and Pendant, this may be the painkillers I'm on talking (got my wisdom teeth cut out yesterday), but I dont comprehend what you guys are saying.

    Soris, it's only 3 slots.

Pendant, what do you mean? The dynamic? Huh? I'm being serious.(_much)

Maybe I'm doing a bad job of explaining it or maybe you just need to come down first, either way I'll get back to it when you're feeling copacetic again. big grin

    First off...
    Spoiler:
    OUCH

And secondly, I think Pendant means since there's no stat scaling for such an effective casting, the natural reaction to "popping your pyro cherry" is.....

    :affraid: :affraid: :affraid:
    bounce bounce
    Sleep

    Here's hoping you feel better.

On the average opponent, my chaos fireball hits for 400~ damage, can't wait for ascended pyro flame. Ima go to NG+, as Quelanna or whoever the pyro girl is is gone. Right now I'm darkmoonblading to get the miracle and stuff. I'm planning on getting all miracles, pyros and sorceries I can before going into NG+

Darkmoonblading sucks. I'm lvl 130, in the area outside the gank forest in front of the bonfire. What was now constant invasions at lvl 120 darkwraithing is now failed invasions. Wut da hell.

I always thought you were strictly a melee player, so forgive me if I point out some things you already know.

    Check this out:

-GC and BF do not need dex to be effective.

-Force at 12 faith is awesome.

-16 Intelligence for DB and DO is crazy.

These 3 things combined can make for some nasty combos on just about any build. Again, I dont know how much you've messed around with casting/melee playstyles. HCSM with a bow/xbow is pretty fun too.

If you want a more in depth pyro technique to incorporate, try the 45 dex chaos fireballs unlocked, thats always fun too. It would also let you keep your cumbustion combo you seemed to have enjoyed so much.

PS-Hope your jaw heals well man, wisdom tooth extraction is a ***** from what i hear.

Yesterday, after the first pain killers had worn off and I was abut to take another dose, my jaw felt like, as I described, "A 500-lb bodybuilder had failed an attempt to discombobulate me." It sucked.

It's better now, but it still hurts. My jaw is swelling as is stiff. As a benefit, I may not be able to sing at a concert this Sunday... oh no... (yay).

    I am strictly a melee player. I dislike using magic, but I respect it, and will use it to supplement my build. I know how force works, (it is indeed awesome), but dark bead and dark orb have only been experienced on the receiving end. :{

I am starting to notice the first as well. Black flame, as Ghadis put it, provides a nice 60~ poise gut punch.

It's fun; although I refuse to put on any sorcery-boosting equips besides my trusty, bloody red tear-stone ring.

Dear Lord :affraid: , I can only imagine. :|

And lol about the concert. lol

Screwin around with HCSM just to make your opponent move is pretty fun if you've never tried it. You can use it on a Int/melee build without having a need for the CoD, TCC, or BDCR. I'd say use Pursuers, but I never even used them seriously. Imo, the people spamming Pursuers and Dark Bead are just, well not very bright. But the guys using Pursuers and CSS all decked out are just ridiculous at times. I dont necessarily have anything against Pursuers as a stand alone, but ya anway.

Pyro is just fun imo. You might find Fire Surge to be pretty fun, or even using a cloud for "surprise attack" kind of stuff. All the mist pyros are pretty useless for status effects, but they can be fun when using them with a Leo Ring bow or something. ANd just the fact pyro doesn't scale and a pyrohand is 0 weight makes it easy to use and, imo, hard to pass up at times, especially in pve.

PS-I hope you start to get hooked, you'll be one of us soooon, oh yes soon enough.....muwhahahahahah!!!!!!!!!!!!! twisted

I like chaos fireball's lava effect. It provides some decent cover for surpise attacks. I go into the lava to prevent backstabs and to backstab others when they try to roll through it. So nifty.

I plan on using the other stuff too. The mists are fun for sneak attacks. I have a gank destroyer build. That I use in the forest. So much fun. I bet you can guess what it uses... :weap-divine:

It's also fun to use force in blighttown. Or to grab several stacks of soul arrow then equip the dusk crown ring... lol

Instead of blabbing I’ll just post this link, it has all kinds of great stuff.

    Spell Combos

For a more in depth look at combos, casting times, and other related info, I guess I could shamelessly bump this ol’ thing.

    For tha Love of Castings

My favorite one by far is HCSM and an avelyn, but that’s going off topic, so I’ll stop now.

On topic I'd argue that Power Within is the strongest casting in the game, but thats just imo.

Mixing Great Soul Arrow + Great Heavy Soul arrow off O. ivory catalyst is just funny. People get used to the GSA and then roll too soon on GHSA.

I don't like the chaos pyros because they eat up 2 slots. I like packing GC, GFB, Tempest, sometimes Surge, and PW. Power within + bellowing/dusk makes pyros a tool demanding respect.

And in the forest, if you're hurting take your 12 faith thorulund talisman, run off, and heal lololol. Gankers HATE chasing through mushroom parents and even more so chasing someone down that long ladder.

I've been thinking of using something like this for some troll invasions + forest hunting:

Ya it is a drawback. I wouldn't say its as big of a drawback when comparing Pusuers as a stand alone to Homing Crystal Soulmass for example.

Pursuers would seem kinda useless nowadays without a CSS to the face, maybe the avelyn would work good with Pursuers, but i'd still choose HCSM for the 2 slot reason you mentioned.

I found that the 2 slots for Chaos Fireball to be worth it imo though. The lava damage for bs fishers is just pyrotastic. I used CFB on almost every toon that had 40-45 dex. The fireball itself isnt that hard to dodge, but being good at casting it behind you can be devistating if timed right. If I had to choose between 8 GF and 4 CGF, id prolly choose the 4 CFB everytime. I never found a legit reason to use Chaos Storm over Tempest though, again for the same reason you mentioned.

And ya that GHSA is a neat trick too. Kinda the same principle as DB followed by a DO.

    ***edit***

I should also mention that the reason I personally like the CFB instead of GFB is because they both do 80 poise damage, therefore in most cases causing the enemy to stagger through the lava. One more reason is I would rarely ever see a need for more than 4 fireball spells, but it all comes down to preference. The 2 slots can really be a turn off for some i'd imagine.
