Dark Souls, Demon's Souls, and D&D

Post by arshan272 on Mon May 13, 2013 11:00 pm

Those of you who play Dungeons and Dragons Fourth Edition might be interested in the fact that I'm creating a class based largely on the Sorcerers and Pyromancers from Dark Souls meshed with the Sages and Saints from Demon's Souls. The reason I'm posting this here is because I'd like help adding content to my class.

For those of you very familiar with Fourth Edition D&D, I need help adding balanced powers and feats for this class. I'd rather prefer if you didn't try to change the class or preexisting powers without my express permission. I also need to know what you want to change in the first place.

I'd really appreciate the help with the content creation and would love to see the Dark/Demon's Magicians added to the D&D world.

If this picks up any steam, I'll post a few brief rules about creating powers. If you wanna create a feat, just jump right in.

Thanks to whoever spends the time to actually read this. Although you should be, cos' this is a forum and not a **** 100 Character comment section!

I just realized I forgot to link the class and post the content creation rules, so . . . here they are!

    http://www.dandwiki.com/wiki/Sage_(4e_Class)

I'm mostly looking for feats and powers, so I'll post the general D&D related flavor and rules for power creation. It would be wise for you to READ the class first, so that you know what the flavor is. And, you know, the STATS.

Powers are divided into three categories: Fire, Abyss, and Soul. The main stat of the Sage is Wisdom, but the secondary stats are Int (Not as OP as DaS) or Cha.

For Fire: If it's just straight up damage, stick with wisdom. If there are secondary Damage effects or effects that need a stat, use Cha for all fire related powers.

For Abyss: If it's just straight up damage, stick with wisdom. If there are secondary Damage effects or effects that need a stat, use Int for all abyss related powers.

For Soul: Just wisdom. For all regular "Soul" Magic, Miracles from DES, and ambiguous spells just stick with wisdom. Unless you have a really cool idea.

About Dark Souls miracles: NO DARK SOULS MIRACLES WITHOUT MY EXPRESS PERMISSION!! (PM me or post in discussions, or on this forum)

Posting the powers on the actual page: Create the power using the normal D&D template, but once you're finished, paste the full power into its spot on the list. I want to print and pdf it, and doing this makes it much easier.

You must follow the rules above, even the "Posting" rule, despite the wiki's warnings. Please do not erase preexisting work of any kind, that's my job. If you want to change anything that isn't yours, ask me in the Sage class's discussion page.

I don't play 4e (die hard 3.5 fan here);but if I may, I recommend taking your homebrew to someplace other than the DandDwiki, at least for 3.5 it has terrible reputation and AFAIK you don't really receive feedback, having said that from a quick look at your class it seems pretty well done, so kudos on that.

I highly suggest to try the giantitp homebrew board, it is really active and it has some of the best homebrewers I have seen.

somewhat off-topic; but it is great to see there are other D&D nerds in this forum (even if they play other edition).

I like 3.5 very much, but I'm not experienced enough to create a class for it. As far as the reputation of dandwiki for fourth edition, it's perfectly fine. If I can convert the ENTIRE class so far for that site you recommended, then I might. I thought no-one would respond, so thanks.

If you have the class (and powers) in text without formatting it will be easy to convert since you could just copy paste.

Another option you could do is linking the class in a post like you did here; but as I said DanDwiki is... to put it bluntly most of the forum hate it and avoid it like the plague.

i switched to Pathfinder because 4th Ed. just wasn't doing it for me.

RPG.net has a pretty decent forum for posting that sort of stuff and getting good feedback. well at least it used to be good, i don't remember the last time i was there.
