Well he is a porn star. So you're half right. He'd have to be with that mustache.

Re: Video Game Trivia
Okay here's a hint: he's from what I'd consider the most popular installment of a very popular series of rpgs, and I think I mentioned that I've been doing a playthrough in another thread.

Re: Video Game Trivia
I believe you recently mentioned playing Phantasy Star... 4? Is he from that? I haven't played it yet, so no idea on his name or his deal.

Re: Video Game Trivia
I guess I'm going to give it up. I think people may just be losing interest anyway though. His names Seth. He meets you outside a cave dungeon posing as an archeologist and asks if he can tag along while you explore, then when you get to the secret inside he changes into Dark Force, PhS4's main villain. So he's a useable character for a short time and is also the end boss. Your turn Tonberry.

Re: Video Game Trivia
Ok. Yeah, this thread doesn't seem as active now. But I hope it continues. It's a fun game.
Leading up to the release of this game, fans of the series followed an ARG website detailing the investigation of Mark Meltzer into a series of kidnappings.

Re: Video Game Trivia
What's ARG? Or is that part of the question? I'm going to guess Slender. That's the only game I'm really aware of that a big mysterious online thing leading up to it. Speaking of which, if any of you are into the whole horror thing, I downloaded a free game through Desura not long ago called Haunt. It's Slender but took the idea of the more simplistic game and really built on it. There's way more to it than the original. The graphics are gorgeous for a little free game, the atmosphere is terrifying, and there are all these little details added that just take it from frightening to damn terrifying. I've only played for maybe a total of 20 minutes because it was messing with me so much I had to turn it off. Moreso than Amnesia even.

Re: Video Game Trivia
Nope.
And I'm not sure how to define ARG, so I looked it up:
Alternate Reality Gaming is, according to CNET, "...an obsession-inspiring genre that blends real-life treasure hunting, interactive storytelling, video games and online community..."
"These games are an intensely complicated series of puzzles involving coded Web sites, real-world clues like the newspaper advertisements, phone calls in the middle of the night from game characters and more. That blend of real-world activities and a dramatic storyline has proven irresistible to many."
Haunt sounds really cool, I'll have to check it out.

Re: Video Game Trivia
Ok, tough question. How about a couple hints? I don't want to give it away yet though. Let's see...
1.) My current location is a reference to the game.
2.) The investigation takes place in the 1960s.

Re: Video Game Trivia
It's totally free, really scary, and such a cool way of approaching the medium. Definitely worth checking out. Desura is so great anyway that if it got anyone into it that'd be worthwhile in itself. Lots of free indy stuff from developers that are just starting out. It's how I found Project Zomboid which has quickly become one of my favorite games ever.

Those are really interesting videos! I didn't know the difference between Alternate and Augmented Reality Games. Both sound really fun, and I hope AugmentedRGs develop the way they predict, with wearable technology and all.
I'll confirm that the ARG I referenced is an AlternateRG, and it's not mentioned in the video. But, here's another hint:
3.) People following the ARG had the chance to get some free stuff from the game it was leading to, including a vinyl record, a wine bottle full of propaganda, and some masks.

Re: Video Game Trivia
Huh, I totally forgot I had a question going here. In an effort to not be the one who kills this thread, here's a list of hints to make it clear what game I'm talking about. Whoever gets it first can come up with a question if you want.
4.) This game is the sequel to a hit 2007 game, set in an underwater city called Rapture, which was founded on the philosophies of Ayn Rand.
5.) In the promotional ARG for the game, the investigation turns up the disappearances of many people, including Andrew Ryan, Yi Suchong, J.S. Steinman, and Julie Langford. It's because these people are characters in the games. You meet a few of them in the first game, but they're all dead by the sequel.
6.) At the end of the ARG, the investigator takes a boat looking for the underwater city. He then appears in the actual game, having been turned into a lumbering, diving-suit-wearing abomination, tasked with protecting a little girl. (the story still brings a tear to my eye. His daughter is taken, he spends years searching, and when he finally finds Rapture, he's turned into a Big Daddy and paired with his daughter... )

Re: Video Game Trivia
I had no idea there was an ARG type game for the Bioshock series.
I honestly think its dying anyway. The forum as a whole seems to have about a 3 week long attention span.

Judging by the hints almost giving the game away I know you're talking about Bioshock 2, but I honestly am not sure what your question is.

Re: Video Game Trivia
In this game you start out as a single character, eventually gathering a team of adventurers as you try to save the world with a mix of real time combat and a turn based system, this was one of the first RPG's on a system known for many, very good RPG's. This game also featured 4 tough bosses, called riders, that you face one at a time throughout the game, then towards the end have to face all 4 of them at the same time.
1) Name the game
2) Name one of the 4 riders

I know this. I know I know this. I just can't think of it. I'm guessing either PS1 or 2. I'd say 1 is most likely.

Re: Video Game Trivia
Next hint is that it's a PS2 title and one of the first RPGs that came out for it.
You also have a unique power to be able to call mythical creatures to your aid and is the answer to the first part of the question.

Re: Video Game Trivia
Nope... another term to call people to your aid is to 'summon' them...
