    Sorcery Build Empty Sorcery Build

Post by Satoshi Thu May 16, 2013 6:12 pm

Hi, I am trying to make a Sorcery build and cap it at 120. At first it was easy, but then I got some information that dex increases casting speed. I would like to know, how much does it affect the speed, and is it really necessary?

https://mugenmonkey.com/darksouls/?c=338343388737482228 My build as of now.

Is there really a point for 45 dex, or is just having a small amount okay?

The difference will be minimal, and it's not really as noticeable as it is with pyromancy.

Drop 45 dex, keep what you want to use whatever weapon, but I suggest 16 for Velka's Rapier.

The difference in casting speed is really different at 45 DEX. I've also heard that you need at least 35 DEX to start seeing an increase in speed, and honestly I don't really know if that's true, I only know that the difference in speed at base DEX, 40 DEX, and 45 DEX is extremely significant.

It's definitely not necessary to increase it, but in my experience faster casting times have been the difference between life and death on some of my magic builds.

Although it may not seem that different, if you compare two castings you can very clearly see the increased speed.

16 dex is fine for me pretty much all the time. (For an int build)
40 dex on a pyromancer build is very useful and noticeable though.

Dark Bead's speed seems to scale as an equivalent to Combustion when I look at it.
When I compare the speeds of it with a 45 DEX character and a 12 DEX character it's really noticeable.

Do you really need a faster cast time for DB?
It's very fast at base dex.

Dark Bead is still faster though. My point was based around a sorcerer.
I don't care to speak on the matter further. We should leave this up to Satoshi.

    As you wish.

I'd recommend you get some higher DEX, but it's completely up to you. Since you don't seem to know about it, I'm going to assume that you may have little experience with INT builds, in which case I'd definitely recommend you get higher DEX as well as use Crystal Magic Weapon and a +15 Rapier. It can help you ease into the casting speeds then you can slowly lower it.

If you already know quite a bit about them, I apologise for assuming.

A +15 Rapier is certainly a good choice.
An alternate choice is Velka's Rapier. It has won me many a battle.

That was his original weapon, so I can't tell if he's just jumping on the bandwagon or if he actually knows what he's doing. Shrug

The C scaling in Dex gives Velka's minimal increase, whilst the +15 Rapier gets a considerable boost.

I'd say to hardswap between both, come to think of it.

That's normally what I do on my INT builds.
That or use MLGS + Hornet ring because it's f*cking overpowered and needs nerf.

    So are the rapiers.

1300+ damage on a riposte for minimal effort is not to be scoffed at when equipped with spells too.

Enchanted Claymore is a good hard swap for MLGS.

Greatswords do just as much damage as Rapiers for criticals.
    Lightning Claymore +5 > Lightning Rapier +4.

With that amount of Int Velka's rapier is a good choice to go with for a weapon. Though you do need a bit more dex for casting and it also helps your weapon. I would go with 20-25 dex if you want to still have high int but with dark bead being fast and a bit fast with the souls mass. I say you have a good build going with the exception of the defense but then I am a defense nut so that is just my opinion.

Greatswords are easy to parry though.
And rapiers are better for hit and run tactics, and harder to parry.
    Plus, they're faster.
Must be why I prefer them over greatswords.

Depends on your style of fighting. Based on your weapons, I assume defensive and a lot of pokey death. So when it's like that your fine with the dex you have. But if you are like me and are aggressive(Renegade has personal experience with my aggression) then the faster time will help. When I can record on plan on recording the times for every spell at different dex levels, so until then, choice is up to you. Also might want less health for more attunement, but that is because I never advocate for too much health just on personal preference. Also, this was very hard typing on my phone.

    I prefer Rapier too.
I play unlocked, so I very rarely get parried unless I think that my opponent is new to the game and won't parry me, and I get too careless.

Soris, can you confirm that sorceries actually gets faster until 35 DEX?

I have noticed, now I say noticed, a faster cast speed as dex is increased but I never spent serious time finding out the details about the connection. I know some spells are faster but I haven't figured out how fast it was when I put a lot of dex into a build.

Correct. Again, more testing is coming. Focused on pyromancies and great swords right now with my testing. Hard to test though without recorded evidence and friends that dislike being test subjects

I liked all of your contributions! I have made int builds, so I have know plenty on how I would go about using one. I have used Velka's Rapier in pvp before, and happened to like it more than the Moonlight Greatsword. It seems like a constant argument between that it is significant and it is minor; I will wait for SirArchmage's results of casting speeds before upping the dex. I am an aggresive, but patient fighter.

Oh, and what is the Velka's Rapier bandwagon? What caused it, a patch?

    Thank you all.
