How the hell does Lordran work?

Post by bloodpixel on Fri Mar 02, 2012 2:49 am

I'm way too confused about Lordran. Fore example Lautrec. He is certainly not a phantom when you meet him. Yet you can invade him in Anor Londo. Why? They say the time in Lordran is messed up but can it be so messed up that people can just slip through the fabrics of space at a moments notice?

In a sense, yes, and the concept isn't new either. I don't know if I can explain this well, nor can I find an article cause I seem to forget the name for what this theory is.

Anyhow, a crapton of universes or multiverses overlap each other, but while it is strong enough to keep things held together objects can move somewhat freely between them. This is basicly what Lordan is, the entire timeline is pancaked together and overlapping itself and things just come and go. Did you know Beatrice has been dead for like 200-1000 years before you meet her?

You can't think of time as a linear construct for this to make sense haha. Time is malleable and fluid.

Time isn't even fluid in Lordan, malleable somewhat by the cursed undead, it's just all mashed together. I guess you can say that the Dark Lord ending may be freeing Lordan from this fate, as otherwise there really is no past, present, or future.

Think the time compression from ff8. multiple universes and times in the same universe exsisting simultaneously. looking up string theory explanations *might help you understand. its not quite the same thing but its pretty close.

*string theory is complicated at best so it might just confuse you more.

Look at it this way: that's why you can keep summoning Solaire again and again even if he gets himself killed like an idiot during a fight!

Lordran works in mysterious ways, it is insulting to question that silly

seriously though, they just use that as a plot hole filler for you to summon npcs over and over again and so you can invade/summon other players. Are you really gonna complain about that though? lol!

Well when you think about it Lordran doesn't actually exist on 'Earth' as we know it. The best evidence for that is easily Ash Lake, and the fact you must be brought there (By Raven no less). After listening to quite a few DkS Fan Lore people I think someone mentioned it being based out of a few lore about a city on a tree, but hey who knows! If you think of it as a place outside time and space where Heroes, undead and dead, are brought back and to to see who is most worth of becoming the new Lord of Flame...

(also DeS does take place is lower Europe and is covered in fog.)

All of Lordran is the afterlife.

    Mind. Blown.

Now that I think of it, Lordran as the after life does kinda make sense. Sort of like a purgatory. A place where dead people go while waiting to enter heaven or hell. Maybe people can't enter heaven/hell because Gwyn is still the dark lord.

    1. Time is not linear in a normal sense, and you interact with phantoms and people that have died centuries ago.

    2. There is no real death until you "beat" the game.

Hollowing seems to be a state of mind, not a form of death to my understanding.

I understood hollowing to be a state of mind as well. Something that could happen to you if you gave up, or spent too long trying to ring the bells.

Kinda like going crazy after being killed over and over again.

I really dont give a flying f*** for either DkS and DeS lore/logics or whatever... it's too hidden for me to try to understand anything...

ok explain this acording to the game you go hollow after you lose all yr humanity why is it then that unlike other undead when you get killed you become hollow but still keep your sanity... oh n lordran isen some type of a hell its just another country in the souls lore...and dwin and the others arnt gods theu r just a bunch of lucky m*********** that found the flames and stole their power if you think of it at the end gwin goes hollow and you kill him so 1st a god is a being that cannot be killed n 2nd how could a god become undead as you have to be undead to go hollow...

Lordran is indeed a place "outside time and space", it's a fantasy world, were things don't have to make sense. In fact, nothing even makes sense in "our world" if you keep breaking it down until you can't find an answer to the "why" or "how" question no more. At least for me lol. But it also doesn't have to I guess. In general. Searching for explanations and meanings is just something us humans feel we have to do. Curiosity a basic "instict". We need to question things we don't understand in order to learn, to explain things, and therefore to survive... I guess...What was the topic again? silly

It's just a thin veil plot device to give context to invasions and summoning.
    Spoiler:
The pendant does nothing. The end.
