I'm a huge lover of the Shotel, I think a lot of people sleep on it. Yeah its SUPER easy to parry the unblockable but its great for invasions where your victim is scared into turtling.

What are some of the best under appreciated weapons in the game?

I would agree. I think a lot of smaller weapons are overlooked too, such as the hand axe, reinforced club and what not. Great for STR builds to have in their second right hand slot.

titanite Catch Pole - Split AR, but it is useful for ripostes and backstabs. D scaling in STR/DEX with a D scaling in INT to boot. It has a near-useless R2, but so does the Chaos Blade.
Greatsword - I've seen a lot more use of it recently, but the Zweihander is much more popular. The GS's R2's are amazing for countering and extremely deadly when paired with the Leo Ring. I've hit over 1100 damage with it on someone in full Havel's minus the helmet without the Leo.
Claws - Extremely hard to get used to, but very useful for quick, safe damage. When paired with the DWGR your roll attacks make you nearly invincible.

Crossbows, especially for Str builds when you can't afford going past 10 Dex.

Crossbows for any build, they're perfect to counter pyro.

Small str weapons like hand axe, club, etc. I'm saying this even though I've never used such weapons in pvp, but I can see the potential.

The Butcher's Knife is a nice one, but you really can't beat 450 AR on a Q build with the Gargoyle Tail Axe. It's also decently fast and long, and stunlocks like a pro. My opponents always underestimate it.

Lifehunt Scythe even though shorter has more AR than the Great Scythe, and 50% bleed is stupid if you get aggressive enough. I'm liking more the Server over the GLS just because of the R2 combo.

The Server can be pretty nasty, I have a +10 Fire Server on my DEX/FAT build for no reason at all haha. But the element of surprise is deadly, Stone Greatsword and its TWoP attack. Effective for hosts that our running away to heal.

I also like how a lot of twink split damage weapons like the titanite catch pole and the Stone Greatsword get crazy damage at high SL with stats at 99. They're not very viable prior to this but the sheer force of scaling gives them a big edge over elementals and even perhaps some +15s.

I've seen people use the notched whip in their offhand... wonder how well that works...

It's a good compliment to a short or predictable weapon because it can't be parried and builds up bleed on the opponent. It can also parry in the offhand, so some people go with it.

i prefer the reg whip because of the ar since the weapons i use on my main hand dont have blees and i will never bleed anyone with the notched whip unless theyre retarded. notched whip is good with a weapon that can bleed on your main hand.

Barbed Straight Sword
I like the horizontal 1hr2 attack, it closes fast. It bleeds. Its at least an okay weapon.
Mace
Very light weight, which can be important to a strength build.
Both are under rated, but still outclassed in the end. They're not bad options though.

I love the Barbed Straight Sword... on my first play through I used it for a while- even took it to +15... The bleeding damage it inflicts is really nasty....

For strength is the Pickaxe. I've seen a few people use it on YouTube, but I've never actually fought someone using it. I always manage to get a stunlock on 53 poisers and do about 450 damage a hit. It also has an A scaling with Strength, and is fairly fast. IMO, completely worth investing in.

Actually, the mace has the most damage. Out of all the str hammers and clubs:
At 50 str:
Mace - 436 ar
Pickaxe- 427 ar
club- 392 ar
r. club- 432 ar.
A pickaxe is good because of leo ring damage.

but since it has leo ring dmg boost, that means it has the regular counter boost, and I don't think 9 AR is a significant difference, so with the pickaxe and it's counter damage, it is the best IMO

- Painting Guardian Sword (Weights nothing, does bleed dmg, has roughly the same dmg as katanas on 40 dex (except Chaos blade) and strikes fast as hell. Really good choice for dex-builds)
- Almost all straightswords (except BSS that is just too good in comparison)
- Scythe (regular) (great for dex builds and is relatively light compared to other halberds)
- Lucrene (can deal ridicilous counters with Leo and has very good dmg on quality build also)
- Light Crossbow (I still think crossbows are more useful atm than bows because of their element of suprise)

Most Strength Weapons.
The Demon's Greataxe, with S scaling with strength at +15 can do MUHUSSIVE damage, the BKGS isn't bad and the Capra sword is very good. And the gravelord sword (i don't see it very often) it dead angles like a truck and the toxic is very good for scaring people.

A little off-topic here, but str weapons are underpowered. I'm not kidding. As some have noticed, a BSS r2 with a leo rin can hit for 700+ dmg.
700+ dmg
Whereas a str weapon hits for 400-500 dmg consistently. Consistence is nice, but the swing speed is so slow that I feel that the damage does not compensate for the speed. Considering the absurd dex weapons power.
Flippin' bss.
This is probably why str weapons are underused.

a strength weapon backstab with a hornet ring will easily outdamage that
bss counter r2... and the strength weapons stagger easily with that high damage
consistently, as well as having dead angling weapons, weapons that put opponents into wakeup, weapons with long range, weapons with amazing roll r1s...
and thats not a good comparison by any means.
you're comparing a bss with a leo ring getting a counter hit vs a
strength weapon hitting. compare the damage in the same circumstances
and get back to us lol.
they're good weapons. just because a large amount of the player base sucks with them doesn't mean the weapons are bad.. theyre just a little underpowered at sl 100 -due to weight, not the weapons themselves..
