Respawning alive

I still don't know why this happens and I have always forgot to ask:

During pvp, sometimes after you are killed you will respawn and still be alive. Is it just a random occurance, is it because the player that killed you already have 99 humanity (so they can't carry anymore), or is it something else? Anyone know why?

Usually hosting.
Can't remember, but I think it happens both when hosting and invading.

When you invade, you never die (even if you get killed), however, you will respawn at the last used bonfire, and you will have to get to where you used the invasion item to get your bloodstain. That's how it is with the Red Orbs, although I think a few are different.

Although before the DLC came out, I used to commonly get a humanity for no reason whenever I died and respawned at a Bonfire, so maybe it just puts you in human form instead of giving you a humanity now.

Also, Blue Orbs and Black Orbs don't need to reobtain their blood stain.

Besides, this new spawn as human when diyng as host thing must be introduced with new 1.8 patch. because it never happened to me before

I'll keep it in the back of my mind the next time I play. I usually host in an area, but will also invade or drop my sign from time to time when I'm not being invaded, maybe I just have them mixed up.
