A long time ago, I tried to get my friend into Dark Souls, but it ended terribly with him infuriated and me having a controller engulfed in flames. Earlier today, he asked if he could give it another shot. I quickly warned him with a "Are you sure?"
He nodded proudly. "I got this!"
We turned on the console and started up Dark Souls. He created an exact replica of his first character. We both looked at each other, nodded, and in coincidental unison, said "Let's go!"
As his Wanderer first spawned, he immediately took the trail to his starting equipment. As he made the multiple turns, he still didn't get the Estus Flask or open the door. He still never equipped his shield, but used his Scimitar. As he stood in front of the fog gate, I quickly noted, "go back, get the Estus Flasks and open a certain door."
He looked at me curiously. "Huh?" I gave him the directions and got a small "thank you" as a result. He passed through the fog gate and immediately jump attacked the Asylum Demon.
"Shouldn't you use your shield?" I asked.
He shook his head. "I got this!" He easily dodged the Demon's hammer strikes and repeated a hit-and-run tactic. After a decently short battle, he came out victorious. We both cheered. "I did it!"
I chuckled, "don't get ****. The trail only gets narrower and narrower as you proceed until you are standing on a thread." I was glad I was wearing a kimono today, because it was quite warm in the house.
As he came to in Firelink Shrine, he looked around. "Wow, I don't know where to go!"
"Calm down," I said. "Follow my directions." I told him the way to the Undead Burg. The enemies were easy for him, as he breezed through. The painful part was seeing his RB spamming. As he approached the Taurus Demon, I wanted him to learn about the ladder on his own, so I didn't tell him. As he proceeded down the bridge, he was attacked by the boss, it destroyed him with his axe.
Barely surviving, he tried to use an Estus Flask, he was shot and died. A string of profanity came from him, and with sensitive ears, I quickly covered them. As he stopped, he tried again, but this time, he dodged more often, sometimes dodging the arrows, sometimes for no reason. He took hits occasionally, but easily survived. He managed to roll out of an arrow, but right into the Demon's Greataxe, killing him.
"Why don't you heal automatically!?" He screamed. He sat there for a few minutes, then sighed. He seemed to calm down. He quit the game and approached the console and ejected the disk, turning off the system. He put the game in its case...and broke into a full sprint. I was chasing after him, but because I was not wearing shoes, he easily got ahead.
He came back minutes after, the game was unharmed inside the case, but he threw it to the ground, and proceeded to smash it to tiny shards with a sledgehammer. I was enraged immediately, I quickly changed and ran outside. I got to him; he kept swinging at the already shattered disk. With one large swing, he planned to get rid of it completely, but I grabbed the large weapon and snatched it from him...I thanked god that I was born quite strong for having a frail body.
He kept screaming and resorted to stomping on the shards. I grabbed him by the shoulder and applied as much pressure as I could. He immediately fell to his knees. I kept talking to him, progressively calming him down, and sent him on his way when he seemed to be fine.
Now to my question, if I get a new Dark Souls disk, do I have to start over, or is the progress saved on my console?
