Been into them for about a year with pretty good results. Anyone else play with them?

They are interesting. Mixed results but I think that has more to do with it being so new and people not really sure how to sculpt them into soundscapes. But there are people who are capable of using them effectively and they can lead to locked in states of mind. I don't think they can lead one to enlightenment but they can be a complimentary tool to a structured meditation practice.

    Emergence pretty much nailed it.

I've been using them for a while now. Mostly just out of experimentation. They're not going to produce mind altering experiences or make you quit smoking and some of them will cause quite powerful headaches. With that said I've experienced a lot of cool things while using them.

For example I've had some of the best luck with just the pure tones, like a 100hz note made to pulse at 4hz. I feel these produce some of the most pure reactions. Listening to delta and alpha waves I feel can induce sleep. Theta's promote vivid dreaming and can help you create and think. They basically mimic pulses that occur in your brain and if you're in the right frame of mind you'll experience changes in brain activity.

With that said these can be dangerous. So don't throw them on your iPod and listen to them in the car. Some people are more sensitive than others. So you may not feel anything when you listen to them. Also most of the idoser ones are crap. They're supposed to do things like mimic the feeling of illegal drugs and alcohol and so on. Note I said most are crap. Just don't pay for them is what I'm saying haha.

I personally listen to pure theta waves. All day haha. They help my creativity and if I listen to them right before bed they induce some very vivid dreaming.

It really depends. I mean I cant tell you how they're going to effect you personally. I have had beats that have had astonishingly pleasant results on myself and have had quite the opposite on friends.

Personally I have good and bad results with the dreaming. Some nights I will have bouts of waking dreams and get little rest. Others I'll not start dreaming until I've fallen asleep and be well rested. My dreams personally are usually somewhat distressing but I keep pushing myself to dream better I guess.

My biggest issue with them is when they are presented as a method of expanding one's consciousness often in lieu of traditional disciplines. In that sense they would fall short as a "be all end all" and might be reckless as people start going down a road of expansion that isn't rooted in any guidance, be it spiritual or psychological.

Yeah, so how do you get these Binaural Beats?

As a Psychonaut, I usually prefer relatively safe and natural edible "food of the gods" to reach an "enlightened" mind state. I do it for "therapeutic" reasons, such as after a year i like to use it to gauge where I'm at in my life, I don't know if this makes sense. But usually I've been going to my dreams for answers, I've always had vivid dreams since I can remember.

Actually, and I don't know how comfortable many of you are discussing this. How many of you are interested or have been into the "food of the gods?" And I'm not talking about human-made stuff.

I don't know if I should make this a separate thread or something... or if I should be talking about this at all. If i shouldn't can someone let me know. I'm not trying to promote illegal shhht, just wanting to discuss some views based on personal experiences, whether good or bad.

Again, Emergence has nailed it. Hahahaha. The beats are simply a tool to use not a method to an end.

@Everlasting Rat, you can find some simple ones on youtube. You need to use headphones to get the full effect and some will have other sounds in them. The way you test if it is real or not is by removing one headphone. IF the beating sound stops when you only have one headphone on its real. A quick Google search can get you access to other types of them. If you're really into them iDoser has some good products but I recommend you try before you buy as some of their "extremely powerful" beats have had little to no effect on my experience.

@RenegadeCop I don't think that these will change your dreams at all. You could maybe use them to induce a deeper sleep to try an avoid dreaming, but using faster wavelengths may amplify your dreaming.

This youtube channel has some of the best ones I've used so far. Its all free and most of them are in excess of an hour so you really get some time to feel their effect. They also have ones with other sounds laced in that really make a difference.

    http://www.youtube.com/user/FulLengthBinaurals/videos?view=0

EDIT: I highly recommend doing some research in brain function, the sleep cycle and the different states of consciousness before using these. You need to know what you're doing to your mind.

Thanks for the guidance on that and listening to one now but I feel like i should be chillin' and meditating while listening... Also does the volume matter? Should it be low, med, high?

So, would it be cool to make a thread about entheogenic substances and personal experiences? If someone can let me know before I waste time making it.

cool, well then to start it off...

So does anyone have any experiences that they would like to share or thoughts on the matter? Do you think entheogens can help a person in life?

My most recent experience was about a little less than a year ago. It was back home, in San Diego, with my wife, for her first experience. The food was "gourmet mushrooms." At this point in my life, we had been vegetarians and had transitioned into 'raw foodist.' At the time I felt i had this pursuit to lead a clean and revitalizing life.
My mushy experience led to a point where I came into this realm that was pure darkness but then when I focused, noticed little twinkling glimmers in the distance. I realized I was somewhere that appeared like the vast and lonely space outside of earth. I could see galaxies swirls and bright spots all around. Then I notices that I was on these lines. When I inspected them, they seemed like they were made of smaller particles and when I took "a step back" they were part of a grid. They looked like Leyline grid. Then I could 'feel' something approaching. In the distance there were these armies of beings walking on the grid lines. They appeared to have the body of a chameleon, head of a praying mantis, and legs similar in structure to a spider. I felt this imminent fear, but then they began to communicate with me. I could 'hear' them inside my mind. When they spoke it sounded like tv/radio static, but in my head I could understand them completely. They told me not to fear them and that they had a message. I had talked to them for some time, at least it felt forever. In the end, I had come to this realization about how obsessed I was with trying to change my life for the better but was going in the wrong direction. Obsessing over food and it's 'purity', which I guess might've stemmed from a fear of not wanting to be crippled and feeling like shhht when I'm old. I accepted that this is the course of human nature, to an extent and I can help in making it easier, but to obsess over finding some miracle foods that could give me 'immortality'(I didn't really think I would be immortal, more of an exaggeration) was defeating the purpose of leading a happy life. I found that my true happiness lied with my artwork, something I had abondoned since I became a raw foodist. I now am just a vegetarian/pescatarian, on occasion i eat meat. I don't fret over small shhht anymore.
My wife learned about how she always kept talking about doing things but never did, she now volunteers at animal rescues/shelters. She is currently in the military, but now feels that this might not be for her, and took the steps to take some courses to become a Veterinarian. She's still not sure but took the steps forward.

I'm not saying the entheogens are the end-all miracle but I feel they can draw something positive out from you, a lesson perhaps. As a kid, I was reckless with other shhht, and I've had experiences in the hundreds. I've learned that this is better when used respectively, especially towards yourself. I also use my dreams for guidance, and sometimes in my sketches there might lie some symbolism for what may be going on in my life. I've learned to be more loving towards the world. I'm not trying to sound like a hippy but whatever if I do.

    So what are anyone's thoughts?

Well, I've never did anything that would mess up with my mind. Mostly because I'm very afraid of the things it could happen. As a kid, I had some crazy nightmares and they still haunt me sometime. Today, even when I'm still afraid of it, I'm also extremely curious to see what my mind can come up with, I just hoped that I would never had to use anything to do that, but it seems to have some good options.

@Everlast, about that, it appears that I lack imagination to fully "understand" what you described, it is interesting, but after reading for a bit I felt pretty lost, even thought I belive that some dreams and thought can be signals or messages from another beings and stuff

    again, thanks for sharing.

As I said, I will test these Beats tonight at a low volume, before sleeping and see what happens

My problem with a lot of interesting things on the internet. In the end that's all they are: interesting things on the internet. Most of these things are not "scientifically proven" or are "proven" in another sense. Binaural beats are just sound and the effect the have on the brain is comparable to another sound we call "music."

@Everlasting- as far as thoughts go I don't have much to say haha. Every experience is subjective and what you described to me sounds like a bad dream after a day of a bit too much drinking. To you however it was obviously quite important. I don't use enthenogens simply because of many of the medical risks involved with the ones that are legal within my country. I'm not going to go into anything illegal here on the forums.

@caphril- any volume should work so long as you can hear the beating in the beat. I recommend that you get comfortable and blindfold yourself in order to feel the full effect of them. If you listen to the ones on the page I posted you'll not likely experience anything extreme. If you listen to them whilst preforming other actions you may feel an effect on how you preform however.

@andres- thats half true. Music can have a mild psychological effect on our thinking but binaural beats have been show to induce specific patterns within the brain. Both still have a very limited effect on us however as things like this only effect you as much as you allow them to. If you think you're going to turn into a rainbow colored unicorn named Walter then you're probably going to in your own mind. Otherwise its really just up to you. If you're interested in the subject there's been a lot of extensive research on the topic and a lot of it is quite interesting. Its seen use by the cia and many private organizations.

Now that I think about it, I'm not much on drinking and when I do, usually I don't remember my dreams the next day... I'm usually a vivid dreamer

wasn't trying to promote anything illegal but I thought maybe someone had some thoughts on this. Yeah usually the good one are the highly illegal ones. by 'good', I mean relatively safe or there is next to none evidence that it could have any bad side effects, when used responsibly.
