Times when it's okay to pull the plug?

Post by Derpwraith on Tue Apr 30, 2013 7:50 am

Went to the burg for the first time for some PvP after juicing up my Darkwraith with mega mule (don't bother asking me about it, rules are rules), jackhole invaded me before I could reach the bonfire. sad I had to pull it because I didn't want to fight. Is that bad?

Kill yourself (not literally) and go hollow. Only ever go human when you have deemed yourself ready to face other players.
Otherwise, I would consider pulling the plug as a bad thing. While you might be at a disadvantage, it waste both yours and the invaders precious time. Might as well go down like a man.

Go out swinging, if nothing else, they'll respect you for dying like a man

(Unless it's that special breed of douchebag invader, and then honestly, who care about what those people think)

You are the one losing the most time here and also the one taking the risk of seeing your console/saves burn.
In your opponent point of view, it just appeared he got disconnected from your world, common occurence.
I wouldn't do it, but no one can tell what can be done out of frustration.

But it's not that much different from some things I do :
When you want to reach a bonefire and it's disactivated (or a fog wall prevent you to reach it) because the game is trying to match you with an invader, you can still leave the game the regular way as long as there still is no invader here.
What you did is the same except the player was already in your world.
I'd hate it if I were the invader, but from a general point of view, it's not really important. You might have made your opponent lose some time, but you also prevent yourself from possibly have to travel again from the last bonefire.

It is always dumb to disconnect in my opinion.

Either you are being dumb risking your save file just because you don't want to die in a video game, or even more specifically, why would you be dumb enough to go human if you don't want PvP?

Sorry to sound harsh, but you asked, and I honestly have NEVER gone human without the 100% assumption that "here comes PvP".

    ....just saying. silly

u got a darkwraith with all the stuff from a smurf and fear invader in burg?
let me guess, it's a SL1-10 Invader dedicated to do exact the thing you fear -> invade with OP gear in burg?
So you pulled the plug ton ot lose what? Is there a bloodstain with 99 humanity lying from you? No, you only fear not to reach the bonfire and lose 1 humanity?

    Pulling the plug - never!
When change our FC to Arty's Arena i'll quit the game, when i go from bonfire to my bloodstain and get a fog gate, but i won't pull the plug, never!

It is never okay to pull the plug. Jump off a ledge and collect your bloodstain the old fashioned way.

And seriously, using the megamule to become a low level griefer in the Burg? WTF, but it is okay for you to yank the plug?

So let me get this straight....

You JUICED UP YOUR DARK WRAITH IN ANTICIPATION FOR A FIGHT, and you have the nerves to disconnect just because someone invades you a little haead of time? And you have the audacity to call HIM the jackhole?

Wow, you're not a little coward at all

It's better to stand, fight, and die with your dignity intact than to retreat from battle and be a coward. You become human in this game excepting to be in combat with others, not the other way around.

And in games terms you risk damaging your file by doing so you may lose all that time you put into it.

If I understand correctly you pulled the plug so you would respawn in the burg rather than having to go back to the last bonfire you rested at assuming he beat you? Since you said you this was the first time in the burg with this toon and that it was a MM one I'm gonna go ahead and assume you were at the Firelink bonfire prepping. I think the disconnect, reconnect, start the game back up probably took way longer than fighting would have.

I've heard of people doing a disconnect because they had a lot of souls/humanity that they earned and couldn't afford to lose but that wouldn't even be an excuse here. You already "juiced up" meaning your need for souls is likely not an issue and I'm familiar with the MM so we both know losing humanity is pretty much whatevs. I'm not going to lecture you on the MM because I think it can be used for good or bad and most of us on the forum know what it means to earn souls and humanity but bluntly stated(again no disrespect meant) you didn't earn any of it anyway and even if you lost EVERYTHING on that toon.....so what?

Now don't get me wrong, I don't think you inconvenienced the invader a whole lot either but I don't see why you'd even bother. It seems like you made things harder for yourself actually. I also agree with lextune. Being human is essentially like sending personalized invitations out to the world.

EDIT: Also, let's try not to devolve into an "us" vs. "them" conversation (I see inklings of that already) or insults and the like. I see most of us are on the same page that we aren't in support of his actions but try to remember it's the action we don't agree with and stick with discussing that. He wanted feedback on our thoughts on it, let's give him some objective reasons why we think it was a bad idea.....and kudos to everyone who has already done so

Stay and fight. If you're trying to recover a blood stain and get invaded, put on the ring of sacrifice. You'll be handicapped but at least you won't be a coward.

    Kill or die trying.

he's not the typical DW..or i'm not the typical DW....when i got enough Indictments i love it to go human and fight those DM Invader. I also love Invasions from other DW - like to see how successfull they manage to troll me.

The best thing is to leave Taurus alive, gather enough indictments at low SL (i love AL Invasions on low SL) and then host in burg with OP Gear. With the DM you get good fights, and the low SL Griefer give you enough soft humantiy to continue that forever, or until you paid for your guilt, or you got your 99 soft humanity from those PvP noobs griefing in burg with smurfs

off topic but indictments don't get consumed. you only need one.

Hey wiki forum, long time no post.

Literally, the only time I think it's ok to DC is you're on the PC version and have a hacker in your world clipping through walls and killing important npc's.

You should know better than to enter an area in human form and expect to not get invaded. Just go hollow, then get to your bonfire.

    OP: Never.

If you're gonna use a megamule, and then say an unwanted invader isn't fair game, take your hypocricy elsewhere.

If I'm running to the burg from firelink to start a PVP session, I'll quit if I get invaded before I reach the bonfire, as I don't want to waste my time in case I die on the way there.

IMHO it's only okay to pull the plug if you encounter a hacker. I know it doesn't matter a lot, but I just don't like to give people what they don't deserve. Otherwise, suck it up and just move on forward. These hardships make you stronger and realise that it doesn't really slow you down at all really. Best chances are you get a bit better at PVP and maybe end up with a humanity of your own silly

It is okay to pull the plug whenever you want. Though personally I just sign out of PSN, much faster. Literal plug-pulling can *** up your save data FYI.

    1. Save data corruption since I still have my USB containing Dark Souls mega mule.

    2. Did not tell the whole story, I did fight him but he was a douchey invader. I'll be honest and say I was butthurt and pulled the plug right before dying and I'm ashamed.

    3. Low-level griefer? when dafuq did I say that? My DW's SL140..

    4. I do PvP in the burg with the Taurus Demon dead through RSS.

Bah! Never! Go down fighting! I used to only go human for specific purposes but now I spend most of my time human. Here's why. Before I knew about fight clubs and pvp arenas and all that totally awesome stuff I decided that I had enough of random invaders popping in to kill me. So I learned my environment, my enemies, and put that knowledge to use.
Adapt and overcome. So what if you're sl1 and they are slX. Try and hit them at least once or make em fall off a cliff and make sure they know you did it. Dark Magic? Dodge it! Great club....attempt to parry! But one thing for sure....DIE ON YOUR FEET!

You really need to put that information in the op. No offense but this thread would not have the post it has if you have added that in the beginning.
