I like to have a variety of gaming so I have more than one challenge run going at once. I switch between them as I feel, so I was bound to eventually reach a run that was just a bit different then I was expecting.

My most recent run is like that. So first thing I did in game was skip all the enemies except the Asylum Demon, then I unequipped everything ran through the burg, also not killing anything, until I reached a good spot to summon my friend.

He dropped me the gold hemmed robes, and so equipping those but still no weapon, I went down to the catacombs and got the Great Scythe.

I was thinking I would use only the gold hemmed and the great scythe, no shield or any other weapon.

This was supposed to be a challenge run as I guard far too much and I always use a sword. I allowed upgrading because there was only one thing to upgrade.

This.... This did not go as planned. I'm currently standing in front of Sens and I can honestly say that this has been one of my easiest runs in history so far. So much so that I'm only having fun because of how different in style it is to everything else.

So I was wondering, has anyone else ever had a challenge run that just didn't go as planned? If so, what was it?

I challenged my friend to do a "relentless sack" run.

The sack is relentless, he never backs down.

The sack does not like mettle. So the sack uses wooden clubs.

The sack wears no armor save the sack on his head.

The sack does not like magic miracles or pyromancy.

Needles to say, he developed a extravagant pvp persona and had a very successful build.

Haha, sack run. That is funny, I like that.

I called mine, "Death run" by the looks. Probably been used before though..... Actually, the run in general has probably been done before.

I haven't had a difficult time on a normal run in a long time. Sadly there is only so many times you can fall for the same tricks....

If anyone wants a real challenge run do a naked+broken straight sword run. Weapon buffs allowed but no other magic.

Haha, I can see it. I once killed my friend with a broken straight sword, he was so pissed. Mainly because out of the both of us, we have entirely different skills. I'm damn good with PVE(In my groups opinion anyway,) and he is the same with PVP. We both have our problems in other's department though.

So killing him with a broken straight sword really hit his ego. I was as surprised as he was honestly, lucky day for me I guess.

    So I can see.

Hmm, no one else has an interesting run that just didn't go as planned?

A run that was supposed to be hard that was very easy.

A run that was supposed to be easy that ended up being pretty hard.

Maybe a build done entirely for cosmetics, that ended up being practical despite previous thoughts.

Like for instance, my whip run with Knifebender. Was supposed to be pretty hard and is still kind of hard, but at the same time I've never felt so alive with a character. I haven't even really played it in a few months and I can still go back and kill a few enemies with it before quitting, just to rekindle my enjoyment of the game. Certainly wasn't expecting the run to make me generally better at the game.

Come on people, you have to have something.

Never actually done a challenge run, save for creating my low vitality glass canon mage. And that really doesn't count because it got really really powerful.

The Archmage is proving to be a difficult challenge run to do.

I died so many times in the Catacombs just trying to make it to Vamos.

It's hard to use a bow in the Catacombs.

So wait, you told me to become practically unable to move on my no level character with an added twist of high magic resistance for 4 kings, without ever having done a no level character? I was thinking "This idea is freaking crazy! Why would I want to be unable to dodge on this character! Whatever, I'm sure he's done it before." Then I did it and it worked, surprisingly easy with high mag resistance.... Note to self, remember to ask you if you have done it yourself the next time you tell me to do something suicidal.... Regardless of whether it works or not.

It honestly might be easier to just run past everything, only killing the necromancers so the skeletons die from jumping down the shortcut with you.

Or you could kill none of the necromancers and just take the jump down to the little hill with the item on it. Then you could snipe the wheel skeletons and go through the door to Vamos down there, of course you would have had to run past everything and get Vamos to activate it to begin with. But you could just homeword bone if you didn't kill the necromancers so they followed you down there. Then do the jump.

I've already finished the area. If I ever have to go back, I'll probably have Great Combustion and Black Flame. If I need to I'll just spam those pyromancies.

If push comes to shove I'll use WoTG too.

WoTG is EVIL!!!!! Although undoubtedly useful and powerful.

Has anyone else ever out skilled someone majorly for 3/4ths of the fight, having a perfect fight, but got WoTG spammed into a wall at the end of it for your entire life. THROUGH YOUR GUARD!!!!!!!!!

I will also admit that it is kind of fun to use.

I think I hate it most when someone uses it in an honor duel. Like, freakin seriously? If I invade you and you use it, fine. The moment you bow however, I would like not to be pushed into a wall, draining 1/5th of my health every single time they decide to spam the button!

My first SL 1 run was one of the few times I have ever rage quit a game.
I've had some pretty bad moments, but it just pushed me over the edge.
Even though currently I could do a SL 1 run with my eyes closed because I've done so many since then.

So you were expecting the run to be easy? If not, not really getting how that fits the theme....

Great to know though, makes me feel better about my long breaks in the middle of my own no lev run. Although I will admit most of those are simply because I'm dreading it and less because of rage.

Back then, a SL 1 run was anything but easy.
I didn't say I suspected it to be easy. I wouldn't have done it if I didn't think it was a good challenge.

I'm saying that at this very moment I don't consider it challenging in the slightest. Back then I thought it was impossible.

I tried getting to NG+7 on a SL 1, but the farthest I've ever made it was NG+5. I just can't go on past that point. O&S were serious trouble, seeing as in the earlier NG's I could just Combustion one to death then kill the other with melee.

Anything but Pyromancer makes it a base level run. Only the Pyromancer can be SL 1.

Well, I did my tour of Lordran with a SL 6. It could have been a SL 3 (exact same stats, different starting class). It wasn't intended to be a challenge run. I would just clear an area I wanted to invade. I ended up clearing out everything in the game (minus DLC). I guess that would count as one though.

The point is that a Pyromancer has the lowest possible level.
